I would not say that WLK did Arthas justice, though. He came across as a cartoon villain from the get-go, always shouting at us, and every plan he put before us we foiled. I’d like to quote one of my raid members from one of our ToC runs:
“Ahh, Arthas, it’s the 900th I’ve seen you and I haven’t died yet.”
In the narrative of World of Warcraft, I’d say Deathwing was a better villain than Arthas. I’m not saying he was good, only that if judged on their own merits (disregarding the earlier Warcraft stories) then Deathwing was better. And just to be completely clear: WC3 Arthas is miles better than Deathwing. It’s the WLK narrative I have a beef with.
When you have raid bosses that can be solo or two healed with one or two Holy Paladins and/or a Disc Priest, balance is down right bad. There is no other way around it.
Throughout Classic Wrath, there were suggestions on how to fix the balance for healers in Wrath but Blizzard ignored them. It only carried out fixes for dps which is non-sensical.
Cata seems prima facie to be an improvement for healer balance, but I have yet to see how things will be in reality since we will be using the last patch and there might be talent changes.
Could be, but I am hopeful this will not be the case since they went out of their way to try and make the dungeon content in Wrath more challenging. If they do release the dungeons in their post nerf state I may very well throw in the towel on Classic. It is kind of the reason why I stopped playing in the first place (partly; the other reason being the content drought).
I stopped play regular WoW in Cata because too easy - seved on silver platter game = not fun for me. I have no idea endgame from there, But I wish for you to get what you like, and hope that I get Wrath Era server as I like.
I disagree - I talk levelling, open world, which is fun part for me. And Wrath give more freedom of choice. Nothing closed behind specs, Questing not linear and so on. Plus I love all feed pet, have bullets and so on things.
And no, I not stopped playing in Cata, I played on - as IronMan - until BfA.
Most people that hate on Cata didn’t even play it they just go off based on charts that don’t even tell the whole story. I love Cata and it was my favourite expansion and even I had to quit back in the day. I was on my last year of University and didn’t have time to play. A lot of people I knew back then also quit cause they become adults with full time jobs. Cata also bleed players cause of how popular MOBA games became. I would actually love if a lot of these WOTLK players quit. They ruined WOTLK for me with their min-maxing. WOTLK private servers community is just awful and I can’t wait for them to go back to PS.
I would argue it’s because he planned for the ICC fight all along.
He does actually kill us 2 times: once the very first time we meet him as alliance in Howling Fjord. The first time you go into the spirit realm you can see him standing in the village. If you go too close he just kills you after a short speech.
Obviously the second time is at the frozen throne, where he demonstrates he could have killed us every second if he wanted to. Only Tyrions’s plot armor saved us, which is another discussion.
But it’s very clear he actually wants to let us live all the other times we encounter him. In Zul’Drak he literally says to us he finds us scurrying around entertaining.
I mean I get why he toys with us like this, he wants to see how powerful we really are and if we are worthy to become his greatest fighting force.
The only time we actually foiled him during leveling was at the Wrathgate, where he had to flee. You can clearly see and hear his frustration when he had to retreat. Canonically this makes sense because we, as in the player, are not part of this battle.
Remind me in 8 months how this turns out, because this is never going to happen. You will have a crowd of people signup to play/level for 2 weeks but nowhere near the numbers of WOTLK, then it will drop off a cliff and steadily decline even more than WOTLK did.
Cata as an expansion sucks, they made the correct choice to make it last less time.
You’re forgetting that people actually know what to expect this time around. The majority who are going to play cata from the start, like me, know what cata is about.
Sure we’ll have some people that come back and those who will quit, we’ve had this when TBC Classic launched as well, but that’s a natural occurrence.
I’m seeing more hype than people being negative, here, reddit and ingame. Most guilds I know are almost fully transfering over to cata.
