How would players react to the Alliance losing?

The Ebon Blade says, ‘‘Hello Lich King, we killed you already!’’

I really don’t see how the Alliance would even “slightly lose” given Sylvanas is the leader, she’d have to go if there wants to be a peace. And Horde occupations have never turned out well for that population/faction so this would further incentives the Alliance nations not to surrender unless they want to be turned into Human Seedlings.

But then again when a faction “slightly” loses they normally gain more out of it, so I can’t wait to get Azshara, Hillsbrad and Silverpine back while you get the Alliance section of Southern Barrens back. I would happily settle for this if we lost.

Panda, Maraad!

Also, come on, the Alliance has Dreanei. We can’t lose

As long as Alliance gets the same treatment for losing as the Horde did after SoO then I dont care. The story is stupid anyway, whats one more bit of stupid on top?

Going off-topic, so I’ll try to keep it short, but probably fail:
There is still the Bilgewater Cannon. Firing it in the next escalation of the war would make sense and not even be a Deus Ex at this point, more of a Chekov’s Gun. That superweapon has been on the stage for such a long time that I personally had mostly forgotten about it entirely. I feel like we’ve been reminded of it more lately, with the Horde War Campaign missions with Gallywix and allegedly some mission table stuff. Now would be a good time.

If the Alliance, in retaliation, utterly destroys Bilgewater harbor/the cannon using Jaina’s air boat or the Draenei ship (but conveniently tapping that resource for the forseeable future) it would be a nice cleaning up of these slightly too OP assets without going as far as destroying another capital.

wow guys…
What if we all lose?
What if both factions get annihilated to a point where we reach scarlet crusade levels of strength?

Aha. So, asking for the same treatment the Horde got in their "Defeat"in MOP is apparently wrong and asking you to suffer? Curious logic.

Why? I mean, there were tons of negative consequences coming out of SoO to the point we’ve almost reached cross-faction level consensus regarding how negative it turned out.
For starters, and sticking with the Horde side for now, the void left where there had been an orc leader and an orc narrative.

Are you implying that the only way Blizzard can actually write this story consistent and/or cohesive, is by having the Horde loose?
Not to sound douchy, but they kind of dropped the ball by bailing out of consistent and cohesive with broad sentences referencing offscreen stuff, Plot Nukes that come out of the blue, and Deus ex machinas tailored for any scenario that requires them getting out a cornered situation.

If that kind of story “kinda” works for the Alliance, don’t you think it still possible for it to also work in the Hordes favour? Its not as if they find it impossible to write consistent or cohesive stories without requiring Plot Nukes and/or Deus ex Machinas. War of Thorn kind of proves it.
The Horde just needs to face someone that DOESN’T wield them whenever they feel like it.

Want to have an engaging story? Don’t randomly create rituals, objects and/or characters that qualify as one-man-armies. Pit each faction against each other with a more down to earth approach.
And maybe…have the Horde win said kind of clash. Don’t just write a magic flying boat if the Alliance feel bested, or create some new random ancient ritual to give Night elves their “fangs” back.

For the record, i get your point. This is just a miniature rant that partly tries to delude myself into thinking this mess has a solution that doesn’t bring us back into MoP. But yeah, i kind of see the easy route you are pointing at.

Still his responsibility.
Shaw messed up.
And people saying Anduin Couldn’t punish Greymane.
Of course he could.
He can be demoted given a time out for military Duty.

Heck Varian Threatened Jaina once upon a time for Helping Baine.

You see that was before he got his raoyal Golden/Knaak treatment where he turned into yet another insuffarable “Can’t do anything wrong” character after the Wolfheart novel. Sad truth but its what we got.

And who is going to punish Sylvanas for practically neglecting her duties as the Warchief after the Broken Shore and almost alienating Odin, which could have resulted in our destruction?

Didn’t see Odyn anwhere around on Argus or at all in the final ToS fight/battle. Not even during the Siege of Suramar. Why is that annoying, arrogant, flaming beard wearer so important again?

I would like to believe you. I really, really would. But I didn’t say I agree it’s the preferable method to work for the Alliance either. I hate those things being pulled in general. The only way that hate gets topped is if finding out those facts was hidden behind a paywall.

I get your point, I do. And I agree with most of them. But i’m sad to say that i’ve lost belief in Blizzard pulling such surprises before. When they do, they often end up as:

Let’s put it in a player-narrative. I’ve had heard great ideas to make these occassions all truly more engaging and relevant to the faction-war than character war. Ranging from:

Instead of the Jaina-Boat: SI:7/A Seaforium plot to blow another hole to attack the fort with. Or Gnomish/Dwarvish plague cleanup plans.

Night Warrior: The Night Elves always had this edge. Reflect their advantage in forest/guerilla warfare through coordination and evasive fighting.

etcetera.

The Horde/Alliance winning then would feel more… in there with you.

Didn’t see any Horde too, apart from those two elves but lore-wise they were there.

Lore-wise, Valrajar WERE important.

So we are to just assume Blizzard will never write an approachable down to earth story, without Deus ex machinas or cheap Plot Nukes?
That the Horde (the whole narrative in fact) is doomed to retread MoP in BfA because the Alliance was gifted that stuff first?.

Its rather sad that the narrative is treated as such.

Both sides had Deus ex’s in the SoL, get over it.

Of course. You clearly haven’t paid attention to this game since it’s launch did you? The Horde can’t have nice stuff AND keeping it. points towards Zandalar Only the Allianc eis allowed to keep their plot nuke fleet they just use to faceroll the enemy. Same thing with Jaina, Malfurion and Tyrande.

Never said the Horde didn’t have any. But, objectively speaking, theirs (a) aren’t as “plot defining” as the Alliance ones, and (b) are half as many.

EDIT: For the record, thats quite detrimental for both sides story. Unless you feel like Blizzard just taking the Vindicaar away when they feel its of no further use is good for “your” Alliance story too. Thats what obsolete Deus Ex Machinas and Plot Nukes get when they become obsolete.
Half the scenarios Ogri wrote are 100% more realistic, engaging and positive for the story. And the result would’ve been the same.

Sooo… non-existant? Minus on the scale? A memory of the past?
