I’ve never got excited for gear in FFXIV either.
Obviously all gear is just a tool, but it’s just so perfunctory in FFXIV.
I just learned a new word, haha. Thanks!
The perfect way for gear I think it would be PoE with harvest crafting, translating in into WoW:
Instead of anima you get epeen points (you name it), from all content, depending on time it takes. REGARDLESS of other loot, not instead of it.
For epeen points you can summon some boss that can whack your @ss but is easy if you do mechanics.
that boss drop crafty orbs (again you name it). Each orb got of random property changing like:
- add socket
- add red socket
- add haste
- add mastery
- remove haste/add mastery
- remove stamina
- add stamina+hybrid-avoidance
- add leech
- reroll value of haste
- reroll value of random stat
- upgrade base to higher tier
and so on.
Item Bases from various content with 6 tiers, higher tier = more powerful item but also require more epeen points to recraft. Similar to TF, mythic drops base tier 6, M+ and heroic T5 but can forge to T6. So M raiders get T6 bases off the bat, other players need to get forged version, or get upgrade orb or work with cheaper T5.
Crafting perfect T1 would be essentially free, crafting perfect T6 would require effort of ~3-6 hour gameplay but you could make it decent in 30 minutes (90% of power).
Bases would have some random properties slapped in so crafting would vary from base to base. Certain professions could reroll orbs themselves or merge 3 orbs into another but random.
But ultimately you could turn any trash into treasure. Without timegating.
You’d still need to run hardest content on hardest difficulty for highest ilvl bases if we talk about poe crafting. So, to get a real treasure you’d spend several months farming CN (M) or m+20 for an extremely low chance to drop a base then on top of it an extremely low chance of the correct base type then ON TOP of it another low chance for correct secondary stats and then have a 50/50 chance to ruin the craft irreversibly. Mmm no thanks.
Or, if we’re talking about harvest specifically, you’d also spend most of your playtime running something repeatable just to farm “epeen points”. Knowing Blizzard it would take all the time till prepatch.
Nope, because of upgrade orbs.
Nope, its not PoE, its PoE with harvest crafting, with braindead wow gear. So not several months but 3-6 hours of playing for one slot. Read fully what I wrote.
It should obviously drop more from harder content but ultimately any path would be viable, just slower than for example +15 M+ or raid boss.
For example M+ 5 would drop 100 (easy, can be done in 20 minutes)
M+ 10 would drop 200
M+ 15 would drop 300.
Give me gear blizzard I’m warning u ff is so much better I should walk out of my LFR or +2 key with 3 pieces of gear I want my time respected blizzard waaaaaaaaah.
You are not entitled to any “rewards for your effort”. It’s an mmo. Gear drop from pve is RNG as always has been. Do pve and you will get loot eventually. What a pathetic carebear post.
Sure, but that will lead to more rewards per person anyway and the problem is that if you tie rewards to “effort” then it will lead people to say that they want rewards for killing every boss and we end up with another loot shover
show on our hands.
Besides, there is no rule which says that people NEED TO get rewarded for their effort, and quite frankly it sounds entitled and toxic.
Scarcity is good, it’s a design that ignores entitled people and rewards those who work for their stuff while not making loot feel worthless.
People are always complaining if not about not enough of something then about too much of something. You can easily get high-level items if you utilize the whole game and not just one piece of it so there is no reason to increase drop ![]()
I’m slacking and doing the absolute minimum and I can still be geared for HC this week if I want to. if anything we progress with ilvl too fast.
The skills are nice, but overmelding crafting gear adds another dimension to hardcore crafting.
and then you say :
So you DO GET EVERYTHING its just isnt INSTANT , its like timegated :D, If I understood you have to wait to spend those tokens you got so If am buying gear with some token well ofc am buying gear I want and am always getting gear it doesent matter if its INSTANT loot from boss or restricted gear that I got with tokens. Not sure what you mean by restricted tho and how that works
A system where you can target your gear and feel progression and not rely on a weekly lootbox to be trolling you?
Where do i sign?
Sorry, I meant weekly capped. For example, you can get 800 of one type of tokens per week, and at the end of the week your “gained” amount resets to 0.
You do have some details wrong, allow me to describe it as someone who still semi-actively plays FF14
Savage Raids drop 1-3 items, you can roll on all items, but you only get a chance to get loot once per boss, and if you skip a boss you lose out on your chance at loot that week from the skipped boss.
Extreme Trials drop (I believe) one weapon, and each player gets a token which can be used to purchase the desired item for x number of said tokens.
Normal Raids drop eight tokens, one for each player, and you can only get one token per boss per week, unlimited chances to get the token you want from each boss until you get a token from each boss (For example you need four tokens to purchase a chest piece, so you can run the bosses multiple times to get a chest token from each boss) and the final boss of each tier grants one token per week, which can be traded in for weapons (7 tokens, plus an extra token bought for Max level currency per weapon)
MAX-LEVEL content drops two forms of currency, one being weekly capped, the other not, weekly capped currency can be used to purchase items of Normal raid quality (maybe higher, I’d have to check) and the uncapped currency can be used to buy items just above the current Normal tier. The capped currency typically comes from the current top tier raid or the “Expert Dungeons” (The 2-3 most recent max level dungeons)
FF14 loot is atrocious. Weekly capped currency with no catch-up system in combination with calendar simulator. No thanks, there’s no excitement only time gating.
no excitement, only timegating? Is that why you play WoW then, where literally, LITERALLY everything regarding gear is timegated? You cannot be serious?
This actually reminds me, I should log on to do the Christmas thing on FF14. Thanks Syphe.
My pleasure ![]()
I haven’t played FF14 in a few years so maybe things have changed. But i recall me and my friends getting pretty close to “bis” in a couple of weeks following the launch Heavensward and then being out of content to do. So we would take a break until the next major patch, only to get fully geared in ~2 weeks. We would repeat this until the launch of Stormblood, which is when i quit.
When i say “bis” i mean what was obtainable by our group. We didn’t do all of the savage raids.
Thats kind of how the game has been designed by YoshiP
well over 4 years ago now someone asked-
"Hey YoshiP, I love FFXIV, but it’s hard to keep playing your game (because of the lack of content) and now I’m taking a break here. Sorry for asking this but is there a way or a reason to keep playing? or anything that can you teach me how to keep my motivation for playing your game?" - A player asking Yoshida during Gamescom
he replied-
Yoshida "It’s alright not to play it everyday. Since it’s just a game, you can stop forcing yourself if it’s hard on you to keep that up. Rather, it’ll just pile up unnecessary stress if you limit yourself into playing just that one game since there are so many other games out there. So, do come back and play it to your heart’s content when the major patch kicks in, then stop it to play other games before you got burnt out, and then come back for another major patch. This will actually make me happier, and in the end, I think this is the best solution I can answer for keeping your motivation up for the game."
So while WoW wants you to log in every day to keep its spreadsheets looking nice and buffed for the shareholder while your chasing that BIS which may or may not drop, ff14 will have you log in do whats needed give you the BIS (to what your after) then if you want to keep playing play or just leave and come back for the next patch.
He would rather you leave and come back when you want then become burnt out hate the game and never come back at all.
I have heard this quote before! It’s such a refreshing take on the mmorpg industry, and I admire Yoshida for this.
But what should people that only play WoW, or want to play WoW do in that case?
BiS is the ultimate purpuse in this game, power progression wise.
The only memorable times I have while raiding, were the ones that dropped my BiS item after loads of runs. ( Nathrezim Mindblade Prince Malchezaar
