How Would You Improve This Forum?

‘Disagreement’ with ‘matters’ related to the LGBTQIA+, such as their right to exist freely of harm and discrimination, is not the same as someone talking about their cats on a public forum or a disagreement on the lore of a videogame. While many people have the luxury of treating the human rights of real people on a hypothetical level comparable to someone disagreeing on how you’re portraying an elf wizard, some actually have to live and deal with that.

I do agree that the forums do beat each other over the head over nonsense quite often, but do not equate someone trying to ‘discuss’ the rights of a group of real people to exist to people having a debate related to roleplay or posting about cats. You have the luxury of speaking about it as a hypothetical. Others don’t.

Just gonna point out that we’re stuck on ingame avatars because the trust system, such as it is, is tied to individual characters.

Which is just weird. My troll is trusted, my paladin isn’t. Same person. Like blizzard think the characters are real beyond the digital world.

Edit: unless it was meant to be part of their ‘class fantasy’ thing. Apperantly monks enjoy :poop: posting.

Which is really funny because since I got it with getting beta access and perma have it, I can do it on any character.

Case in point;

And I’m forever at “member” level. That’s tier 2, right? I know I’ve been unjustly judged naughty by the powers that be.

Oh, I can post away from Distantpeak then.

Pretty much yeah.

I’m just not gonna post away from Cro because all my settings are here.

In this particular incident, I was referred to a certain poster whose posts got deleted, who insisted on defending the recent Supreme Court ruling and responded to any pushback with the declaration that he was “being silenced” and “pushed out of the conversation.”

In the end, his statement clearly went against the terms and conditions of this forum, as it was soon deleted along with the ensuing debate, but I daresay that everyone else was in the right to vehemently oppose him and clown on him for his idiocy. The community wasn’t “silencing” him, it was just a loud and clear declaration of “you are wrong,” which everyone was well within their rights to say.

Good. If he’s going to be intolerant to my right to exist, he’s not gonna be tolerated.

Another banger from the Discord screenshots channel’s favourite blogposter.

I’m surprised that they listened, but, it’s a welcome surprise. I just hope that it’s more of a common thing and that they keep relevant pins useful for roleplayers, but, it’s more likely that Argent Archives updates its software long before that ever happens.

The topic of talking about roleplay outside of places like Discord would be greatly helped if the forums had more functionality than an easily shareable carrd link or - hell, Argent Archives, with its barely-since updated 2005 website structure, that at the very least has an event calendar and the ability to upload images without having to dedicate enough time to it than a part-time job you actually get paid for requires.

-grumbles that the City of Heroes ‘handbook’ site was so much more useful, because you didn’t need an entire damn login per character-

Who eh? What tea do you sip, spill it.
(do it in Peeves or similar, keep the train here relatively on track)

Unlike some others, I don’t intend to use the forums or other social media as a platform for things like that. I am tired of Argent Dawn rumour mills and of the people that partake in them, especially those that point fingers at others for engaging in the same kind of rumour mills they partake in themselves.

Getting back onto the topic of the thread, I think that overall making threads that help new roleplayers and the like would greatly help fostering the forums into talking more about actual roleplay - and being a helpful tool for it, too.

Many of the people here, subscribed or otherwise, have been writing roleplay for nearly a decade, or more, and I think that sort of experience could be used a lot better by helping create a community that facilitates roleplay, instead of debating with each other about what kind of roleplay should exist endlessly.

More roleplay resources for newcomers and a better community with people actually invested in roleplay isn’t just going to fall out of the sky, and it’s most definitely not going to spawn out of the aether like some daemon of passive-aggression being drawn to the material plane by the genuine cacophony some of these threads turn into.

We can’t just force people to use the forums more, but we sure as hell are pushing them away from using them. There’s not much to see here as it stands other than people angry at each other for genuinely no reason other than parasocial tribalism playing Cluedo to check which one of them is the real unsubscribed poster, and not even half the forums give a damn about that, no less people just checking the forums in passing to see what’s brewing in roleplay.

I love it when crap people out themselves as being crap even further.

I’d improve the forum by having bloody pages again. This endless scrolling is BS.
