Hello there!
I am wanting to start role playing a human warlock and there are few things I am not really sure of. My plan is to RP a character who has been kicked out of a mage school some years ago and is now a scribe and a hobby enchanter who spends most days in the libraries of Stormwind (perhaps even works there as an archivist/scribe or something). He has been kicked out from a mage school for not embracing the 4 rules of magic. He is drawn towards magic greatly and at this point he wants to practice any sort of magic, but nobody takes him as a student (not even priests would train him to wield the light) due to his reputation. That is the reason he starts studying Fel. I am planning to role play a few murders in Stormwind, letting people discover the shrivelled bodies with their life force sucked out of them. That will give others something to ponder about, some might even investigate. If they will try I will feed them crumbs that will eventually lead to my capture (should be fun for everyone!). Motivation for my character will be the mild âaddictionâ to magic, once he discovers Fel he will get more addicted. Further he sinks into his addiction and commits crimes less chance there will be for him to bounce back. Eventually he will get discovered and taken out. Wanting this to play out over a couple of months, I will mainly work alone on this so it should be a surprise to anyone who will invest themselves into this story (at least to begin with).
Before I begin, I would like to get my facts straight so if some of you kind people could answer a few questions I would be very grateful.
- Does a warlock need to be granted the Fel by another entity (much like in D&D or Gulâdan being granted power by Kilâjaeden) or could one teach himself to control it by extensive research? I am planning on starting alone and would prefer my character to discover Fel without the help of other denizens of Stormwind.
- Could one make himself look young by sucking the life out of other creatures/humans? If this is possible my character would be old to begin with and with a bit of time he would make himself look young and perhaps change his name to start anew without the bad reputation. in return that would eventually lead to more corruption and more crimes.
- Would other magic wielders sense the Fel inside of my character? Or could I disguise any signs of the usage of Fel?
I know its a long post, sorry about that! And thank you kindly for your help! <3
P.S. I will plan something similar for my Horde brothers after this. Got an idea already!

The lore itself varies quite a bit here, but ultimatly, you do not need to be granted it if you are aware of Fel magicâs existence. You can find ways to study it and delve deeper into it yourself via artifacts, forbidden research & knowledge. So it is very much possible to do solo!
Im not sure about de-aging, since Fel is highly corruptive both physically & mentally. Prolonged exposure to Fel(even not using it, just being near it) can cause physical mutations and visible corruption. Prolonged use of it shrivels your body in various ways. It is chaotic, volatile & impacts all living things in its surroundings, especially the user. Think of it as magical radiation.
Fel is one of the magics are that very noticeable due to its volatile nature, but there could be ways to potentially hide it unless it is from Demon Hunters etc who specialise in seeing through enchantments and illusions.

Hello there, I would like to help as much as possible.
If I am wrong, donât hesitate to correct me, fellow posters!
To use the Fel, you need to be taught by a master. Or researching yourself, but it is way more difficult. I suggest you find another âexperimentedâ warlock to be taught the basics. Then, you may go on your own way or⌠simply, carry on as the student!
As far as I am aware, no. The Fel may not make you look younger. If there are cases of it happening, then please tell me! The problem of the Fel is that it slowly but surely âtransformsâ you. It is radioactive if you prefer. A good way to see it are the Blood Elves, which changed their eyes from an arcane-blue to a fel-green (and later on, in the Sunwall raid you see âFelblood Elvesâ) because of the âradiationsâ from the Fel crystals. Other changes can be applied, I do believe the Fel can even make you age faster and âdeteriorateâ your body. Itâs⌠a poison. One many are willing to take.
Edit, forgot to mention, but Vix got it for me:
The mind of a Fel user may change. From someone calm and peaceful, a Fel user may become more violent, aggressive, short tempered.
I RP my Warlock someone that has become from someone very patient to⌠almost short tempered at time. Borderline aggressive because of its ever lasting influence (and her abusing it.)
The Fel is -very- volatile. Especially as Vix said, the Demon Hunters will easily find it. You may attempt to hide it, but there will be traces of its corruption upon you. Itâs a deadly poison. It grants you power, sure, but itâll leave a permanent mark.

Additional note is that in many cases throughout the lore & game/s, Fel is often said to have very dinstictive smell, so it is also noticeable to people that way. Itâs described to properly reek of brimstone & other unpleasant smells.

And very difficult to get rid of. Itâs an unnatural smell.
Edit: Also anything touching Felfire is different. Not only the fire is more difficult to put out (VERY difficult with conventional means) but it leaves dire scars.

Basically what Arindha said, with just one small note.
This was due to the actual consumption of demon blood, like the fel orcs we see in Outland. Radiation alone might have had a similar effect over a long enough period of time, but thatâs speculation.
The point remains. Unless carefully controlled and harnessed, warlocks will generally suffer some effects of their tangling with Fel magic.

Awesome! Well, that confirms what I suspected.
I think I will go with finding someone to introduce me to Fel and will ride solo from there.
It is interesting about ageing prevention. Guardians were able to maintain their youth using Arcane(probably?) powers. Most likely one must be immensely powerful to do so. It does make sense that Fel would make you look older although I would guess that a very powerful warlock would find a way to cheat death.
Anywho, I think I have everything I need to begin
Looking forward to this, it will be fun!

To touch on this, according to the latest sources(Chronicles) Arcane represents order, where as Fel is complete chaos. So that is probably why it works better with Arcane
Fel can certainly extend your life, but at the cost of your sanity, appearance & alot of other people & beings lives.

Iâd be very careful with self-teaching out of blind addiction or desperation. Magic can kill you in the learning process, fel twice as much, and Iâm not too sure repeatedly draining bodies in SW is something any Warlock would decide to do, especially looking at what spells your character would need that much energy for. It implies also using a bunch of fel in the city, which can absolutely be traced back to you relatively easily pretty fast- maybe youâd have to make the murders a bit more of a âmissing person until months later because the corpse was stupidly well-hiddenâ sort of thing.

Or just, donât use Fel anywhere in public but on the field of battle or⌠alone, with a âwillingâ test subject.

There might be only one body (if people will take the bait ha), because a body ravaged by Fel should not be taken lightly in the city I recon one body will be enough. It will probably wash up somewhere in the outskirts⌠Maybe in the docks. There wont be a body in Stormwind every day, the murder will be a breaking point for my character and story should conclude fairly quick after that
I was thinking of hiring a few thugs to get rid of the body, possibly even kidnap someone for me to experiment with, it would leave a few lead also.
And for a spell to use with that much energy Iâm not sure. Need to think about that yet.
While I donât play so much on my warlock at the moment,
if we by chance meet I could be convinced to depart some beginner knowledge onto you
wouldnât be the first time I have done so.

Thatâs nice of you! I shall keep an eye out for you
Regarding fel corruption in humans, Tides of War and War Crimes describes a few human warlocks being particularly white haired, despite their otherwise youthful appearance. Their bleached hair was seen as an oddity and compared to them being warlocks.

Iâll try and answer some of these whilst using references from canon sources so you can do some extra research yourself.
The most basic answer is no. Itâs described in WoWpedia that âWarlocks with long exposure to or with extensive use of fel magic age faster than normal, and become physically weaker over time. Fel seems to tend to cloud oneâs judgment, or at least heavily amplify their negative traits such as violence and impatience while snuffing out positive ones such as empathy, allowing one to make decisions they never wouldâve made before.â

Itâs not entirely impossible. The vast majority of Warlocks, especially Humans, were Mages at one point in the past. So they likely know a few divination spells.
If a Mage suspects you of being a Warlock, they can certainly take steps to investigating through divination. But thatâs far easier said than done.
My character personally uses Arcane to try and conceal his âfel auraâ, since Arcane counters fel and Demon Hunters use it to contain their demon within, so I donât see why it canât work similarly for Warlocks.
âArcane energy counters fel energy, thus they mark their bodies with arcane runes to keep the fel forces in check.â (https:// wow.gamepedia .com /Demon_hunter)
Thatâs brilliant information, thank you very much!
Iâm not 100% sure if Warlocks can use Arcane, to be honest.
Like your other source says, Fel is a force of Chaos, with Arcane being one of Order. It seems to me that warlocks (like Demon Hunters) would have a very hard time using Arcane magic, unless in the form of runes, of course.
But like you said, the DHs use runes to contain the fel magic, though not to hide it. So Iâm not sure how effective that would be.

From the Demon Hunters, Jace and Allari were once Mages before becoming Demon Hunters and both say that they retain some knowledge on the Arcane, but due to the sheer amount of fel coursing through their veins and minds, itâs (the arcane) near impossible for them to use.

It is a magic so powerful the Zandalari canât embrace but Vulpera can.

Itâs said that the Zandalari donât do it, because of their faith to Loas and whatever.
Vulpera just use anything they can get their hands on. Physical or magical.
Warlocks use Fel, while Demon Hunters have Fel basically coursing through them. Depends on the Warlock. If itâs one of extreme Fel power, then they wonât be able to, because the Fel will hamper their ability to use it. But if itâs a moderate of strength Warlock, they should be able to.
tl;dr Depends on how Felfeked the Warlock is.
