I can’t decide if I should go Hunter or Mage. I’m a Hunter at heart and if the classes would be somewhat balanced late endgame there would be no doubt at all and I would go Hunter all the way. Now I hear though, that Hunter is really quite weak in late endgame and are only really brought for Tranq. Shot, pulling and kiting and not their damage output at all.
Now I’m here to ask you guys if it’s really that bad? Are Hunter dps really that low in the gutter come late endgame?
I don’t know the answer to your question but let me give you another thing to think about: there are more mages running around than hunters from what I’ve seen and that is a lot. If you go mage you will be struggling to find a spot as well.
Go with your gut and play what you really want to. I’ve been forcing myself to level a priest this whole time and finally gave up because I knew really, I wanted to play a hunter. It is infinitely more fun to enjoy the journey on the class you love.
Classic Mage is PvE Godtier solo, spellcleaves and Raid.
Hunter is strong solo but not a must have in groups.
However, if you have fun playing hunter, go for it.
Hunter isn’t that bad, it’s definitely not as weak as sub-optimal specs, but yeah you’re mostly brought to pull stuff, traps, and tranq.
Hunters are amazing pullers and can make or break an efficient raid.
Good pullers are also on demand - if you are good, word spreads quickly as well.
Just wanted to add this, since it is a point that is often overlooked and super important in endgame, specially AQ-onwards.
Go mage, tier S class, be it for PvE or PvP and even for utility.
It depends do you have TBC in mind when choosing a class, one is certain with mage you cannot go wrong…
