Hunter Shot Animation

I’ll do my best to explain clearly here

I remember from vanilla at launch hunters had to time their spells ( scorpid sting, arcane shot etc) between auto shots.

Is this the same in Classic?

I try to do it by default but sometimes my avatar pauses the length of 2 shots in the animation after firing a spell off. Is this significant?

Have I just mistimed a spell and lost an auto shot or is the shot just not being animated? I can’t tell from the combat log myself.

A long time since i played hunter here, but the use of Aimed shoot resets your auto-attack. for optimal dps you should get a swing timer to keep the uptime of your autos to the max. If you get a swing timer you will be able to see if any other spells or attacks resets the auto attack timer as well.

When I first started I assumed multi shot would also clip, since you have to stay still to use it, but it seems that it’s only abilities with a cast time that does it.

There is an issue apparently with character resetting its auto shot timer by jumping but thats supposed to have been fixed

I’ve not got as far as aimed shot yet but that can only be used out of combat as far as I recall.

Typically my rotation is

Serpent Sting
Auto
Arcane
Auto
Multi
Then mix arcane and multi between auto and top up serpent when needed

Just sometimes the auto shot seems to stop and reset after either arcane or serpent.

You’re probably thinking of Wyvern Sting. It’s the only shot that can’t be used in combat. Aimed Shot replaces Arcane in the standard rotation (and can be used in combat :slightly_smiling_face: ).

The animation can get bugged a lot of the time (holding your entire quiver in one hand while shooting, stuck on draw animation, etc), but if you check the combat log (with timestamps to make it more clear) you’ll see that it’s usually still firing.

You do have to time instant shots a bit, with just over 0.5 secs left on your auto-shot timer to avoid clipping, and Aimed has should preferably shot right after an auto-shot, but other than that it’s not much bother. It’s mostly just trying to make the right call on whether to clip a shot or wait for auto-shot to finish before instants.

Though it has been 15 years since I actually looked into the specifics, so I might be wrong or missing something.

This is what I’m seeing then. It’s often getting stuck on the draw animation. I’m pretty sure my shot timing is good. Thank you for your input here I’m certain now that there’s no real issue.

Usually just moving a bit will sort it out
