Hypocrisy of content creators

Attention seeking via virtue signalling over blizzard and wow…while streaming on sites like twitch, youtube etc linked to companies like google and amazon. all of which have had their own issues with toxic workplaces, shady business moves etc is just funny.

Just for an example Twitch is now owned by Amazon. You guys have any idea how badly amazon as a company treats its employees? Esp at the warehouse/distribution level? They are a notoriously bad employer as far as employee treatment goes they basically work people until they fall over, even monitor their bathroom breaks and discipline them for getting tired and slowing down etc.

So streaming using a company thats owned by amazon with all its toxicity is ok but streaming wow content isnt because of blizzards toxicity?

Im not saying boycotts are bad but saying you support employee rights and are opposed to toxic workplaces practises etc while using platforms linked to company’s who are notorius for just that same thing towards their employees is just hypocrisy.

But then people dont care about employee rights when they arent headline news do they? if these guys really believed in fighting this stuff…well then they wouldnt be using twitch as a platform for one!

Amazon is also known for illegally preventing union organization. In the US, it is illegal to prevent your employees from unionizing and firing or reprimanding people for trying to start a union.

This is becoming the new buzz phrase people love to throw around huh? I have seen people use this so much lately. It’s like if you’re not a political hipster you’re virtual signaling.
Hate to break it to you but saying female (and male) employees should have rights and be treated better than to be sexually harassed is not virtual signaling.

Also your logic makes no sense.

If I see someone kick a dog in the face I’m going to yell at them and potentially call an animal abuse line. I’m not going to shrug it off and say “eh, lets deal with the murderers before we deal with the animal abusers”.

You can’t fight a war on multiple fronts. Pick your battles wisely. We see a blatant issue that we have a genuine impact on.

Yeah, Amazon sucks. But do you realise how little impact we have on Amazon compared to Blizzard?

With that said, Blizzard is still a gigantic company. So, not only can we genuinely have change for the better with simple actions, but we can impact the grand scheme of things too.

There’s a difference between working people hard and assaulting them sexually.

Taken in larger context we’re all hypocrites. Buy cheap clothes, fruit or coffee or even buy from amazon and you’re supporting these practices.
But its a complicated world. Is the person being sweated at amazon grateful to have a job and a place in society? Probably. Its a tough life but it’s transactionally simple.

Pervs creating an unsafe workplace doesn’t really compare

ah so when its amazon its just ok to shrug it off but when its blizzard and your going to get a lot of attention and praise for standing up and speaking out then its not? and yes this is the very definition of virtue signalling.

You are either pro working rights or you arent…you cant claim to be so opposed to the toxic working environment of one company then completely ignore the same in another carrying on using their platforms etc and not expect to be called out on it.

I suspect its more to do with the fact that in amazons case its blue collar workers being abused on the whole and the media don’t care about that.

By your logic we would not be able to use any product or service made by any big company and majority of game dev. World isn’t perfect nor black and white.

Also WoW creators and players were leaving before lawsuit news broke.

yep, anti union, anti employee rights. treat people disgracefully, on the level of animals sometimes (there were even allegations here in the uk of staff being fired for having to many bathroom breaks)

but none of that matters to these streamers because it wont make any waves to boycott amazon. their issues arent in the news after all!

We know so much bad about Amazon. Can you imagine the things they’re covering up? Yes, people everywhere are getting fired for taking bathroom breaks. But… Amazon gets away on a technicality - people are getting fired for “not meeting quotas”, and they’re not meeting quotas because they need to take a bathroom break… and there’s not enough easily accessible bathrooms, so a bathroom break may be 10 minutes, most of which would be going to and back from the toilet. :expressionless: It’s so bad.

ive had friends who have worked for our local amazon distruction warehouse and the conditions were absoutly terrible, bullying, pressure to not take sanctioned breaks, constasnt passive aggressive abuse if quotas are not met even from day one, tracked everywhere even to the bathroom, treated like more robot then human.

but hey preach and madseason and all the rest will continue to stream on twitch totally ignorant of the fact they are supporting a company just as toxic and abusive towards its employees…either ignorant or just not caring and that my friends is indeed the very defition of virtue signalling and why I cant take them seriously.

When they take an actual stand in general, ditch amazon also and start advocating and using their platforms to stand in favor of unions and employee rights then I will take them seriously.

Just quitting wow achieves nothing but attention for themselves which is exactly what the aim is.

end of.

Madseason’s decision to quit WoW had nothing to do with the accusations. His video was finished before they came out. He just resents the game. Which is fair - people who hate any game better quit it and maintain their mental health. Playing a game you hate is simply bad for you.

I mean we saw this when a lot of people left method making a lot of noises just to crawl back in silently once the dust was settled.

You do realize that Google, Amazon and Microsoft own like 80% of all internet space, right? Becaue I don’t like Google, Amazon and Microsoft what? I shouldn’t be using the internet to dump on them? What kind of backward logic is that?

A lot of people quit for the California thing but people in general are leaving wow because Shadowlands and 9.1 is TRASH, end of the discussion.
Beside some fanboys in the forum of course.

Im talking about people like preach who claim to be quitting wow content due in large part to the toxic work conditions issue…and then carry on broadcasting on twitch, despite the links to amazon with all that mentioned above.

If people are quitting due to ingame issues well that’s not the point of this post now is it?.. and is another issue entirely.

Its quite simple if you want to get high and mighty over workplace toxicity and bullying etc then fair enough but dont pick and choose which company’s its convenient for you to call out or to ignore. Because if you do then it becomes less of an issue for you morally and plainly just you virtue signalling when it suits to get the most praise/notice for your supposed boycotts

Preach said it clear, he’s leaving for the allegations AND because the game right now is TRASH.
Which is understandable, like why the f would you play wow right now?

oh please he didnt seem to be hating wow during the world first race very recently eh? and he even admitted in his video it was the allegations that were the straw that broke the camels back…hes certainly not speaking out against the praise hes now getting for having morals etc over the issue is he now?

Dude I don’t know what’s your point, you are probably one of those who hate streamers and youtubers and I’m fine with that, every one can like whatever he wants.
The game is trash, feels dead end empty, is so bad even more then BFA and people are tired of waiting for years for a good version of the game, if you are already frustrated and pissed about the current state of wow and you read about these allegation of course you are gonna quit the game.
Do you think that Preach is gonna get profit by leaving wow? No he is actually gonna loose money for that decision.

Actually, it’s when people say and do stuff they don’t believe in at all in order to score social brownie points.

Take Asmon for example, talks about how terrible all this stuff is - while he’s participated in a lot of the bro culture, awful toxicity, and harassment to others.

Or like Blizz all these times in the past years while all of whatever was supposedly going on.

 today i saw a video of woman saying like im done blizzard
and i was like who are you??? what is your content?
and then she said im gonna do FF14 content now
so in that moment i knew that she don’t care about anything related to blizzard drama she is there only to cash on it like many people right now doing
