I am literally the worst player to play this game

Hello.

As title suggests I am literally terrible at this game.

So many things wrong with my play

  1. I have tunnel vision
  2. I cant see when people are casting spells (having their go)
  3. I cant react fast enough to abilities being cast on me
  4. I literally lose every game of solo shuffle, maybe I win one by a fluke
  5. I might have picked a class that needs specific comp to win?
  6. I suffer from a chronic pain

Things I can do

  1. I have keybound all my abilities.
  2. I can do my dps rotation fairly well
  3. I can win the odd duel
  4. I have plater for health bars, decursive

I need some advice, I have tried grouping up in 2’s/ 3’s doing solo shuffle. I just lose a lot!

Could someone advise which is the easiest class to play with and be fairly successful with in pvp please? Perhaps i picked a difficult class to pvp with?

THanks.

Just play the game more and feel one with your class.

There is no secret addon or talent that can turn everything 180 degrees.

Ive been playing the game for a while now, was druid before this… played the entire expansion and failed miserably.

Stick to one class lose untill you learn every matchup and watch good streamers/youtubers who play your class.

Plater health%, bigdebuffs and sarena are essential addons for me. I used to have weakaura sounds for enemy procs f.e. Dance of Chiji.

the secret is, most people get gladiator on a fotm spec one season with busted rating, then transmog goggles and start speaking english like a twitch commentator and rating bashing people on forums

If it’s any consolation, these three are all functionally identical; slowly expand your vision beyond the tunnel and you will find that the other two come naturally.

Personally I’d focus on 2s to begin with, get your bearings with the general flow of the game before slowly beginning to concern yourself with addons. As essential as things like Gladius/SArena/nameplate addons/Omnibar are, there’s no point in flooding your vision with a million sources of information if you aren’t yet ready to take it all in; start small and expand as you become more comfortable.

Assuming that you’re playing Evoker, it isn’t going to be the easiest class to start with even if you’re playing Preservation, and Devastation isn’t in a very good spot at the moment.

Despite most people claiming that Preservation is the strongest healer in the game currently, any healer is still going to demand a base level of awareness that you may or may not have developed yet, and a higher one than any DPS in a Solo Shuffle environment at that.

If you’re playing (and enjoying) Devastation, I’d say to stick with it as Aryash says. I’d argue that caster specs inherently have a higher barrier to entry than the majority of melee, get used to staying calm even while being trained as that’s an essential skill for any caster/ranged/healer spec.

If you really want an alternative spec I’d suggest something like an Arms Warrior if you like the idea of a melee, or maybe a BM Hunter or SPriest for ranged, regardless of current damage tuning.

Arms has an expansive toolkit both offensively and defensively and will help you familiarise doing something other than just running at a target and attempting to do unhealable damage (Fury).

BM Hunters have the benefit of being a ranged DPS that is unimpeded by movement/interrupts, yet encourage the use of CC to kite and land kills. The relatively simple damage rotation might also allow for you to focus on things other than doing damage.

SPriests get trained heavily and are often kill targets, but their CC options are strong and simple to utilise with very little counterplay while packing a large array of instant damage as a means to build pressure even while unable to cast. Utility like Life Grip, defensive Mass Dispel and simple off healing gives you a reason to pay attention to your partner(s). It’s also a really good trial-by-fire spec to get comfortable with being trained on, if that’s an issue that you feel like you have.

It might sound ridiculous but play a healer (you’re already an Evoker, which has access to the strongest healing spec right now). It’s a lot more stressful but you get to play the game instead of having to wait forever for a match and you’ll have a much easier time finding people to play with (speaking out of experience, when I’ve played in SL S1 I had no experience or achievements from previous expansions and I did still find people to play really fast - usually they have been a lot better than me as well, so I could learn a lot from playing with them). Playing a lot of games, watching guides (skill capped is a good source for PvP), setting up an UI with add ons to your needs (for example create some weak auras warnings with audio cue against dangerous offensive cds from your opponents) and finding people to play with is how I’ve improved a lot.

I’m also rather new to the game (only have a few months of experience in PvP in total) and I also struggle with a lot of the things which you mention. I honestly start to thinking that it’s normal to get overwhelmed and lose track of what’s going on.

You are already ahead of many other players because you seem to know in which areas you’re not good, so work on improving on them one by one. Don’t improve them all at the same time, focus on one specific issue and improve it or find a work around for it (for example create weak aura visual and audio warnings against dangerous cds, use an add on to make cast bars bigger,

Hey thanks for the reply! This is very constructive and helpful! I appreciate it a lot.

Yea ive considered changing classes and I do have reasonably high ish level alts of classes you have mentioned. I may give them a go if this continues.

Thanks for your reply as well Cyndis very much appreciated.

I have tried a lot of the things you have mentioed in terms of guides and watching other players etc. My other levelled toon is balance druid, which I am again struggling to use because of the change in playstyle from a nuke spec to a dot spec. It seems very underpowered and again, easy to get trained esp in 2’s.

I have tried playing an evoker healer with a little more success than the dps spec, but still I do lose in a ration of about 80/20 in 3’s solo shuffle. Ill try some 2’s with it.

Just very frustrating times for me at the moment i guess. I’ll try and keep at it and level some alts in the mean time.

it’s fine if they didn’t, but the people who talk like twitch edgelords and talk down to people all the time but got their glad in a busted season are really funny (and yes, if they never got glad and act like that it’s still really funny)

Also, just don’t play a caster, they’re generally harder and require more awareness in general of everything going on. Yes there are really OP casters atm, but they’ll have a higher skill floor than a lot of melee when you can actually do quite well by just tunneling a target and throwing the odd instant CC on something

Play a healer.
Learn to adore losing.
Be a masochist and try to lose as much as possible.
When you see there is a good player and you match with him, do your best to lose to destroy him.
Enjoy the fact you can control the wins and losses as you like.
Let the other believe they are realy realy good and destroy them by not helping them.
Try to reach zero rating.

Enjoy being mean and obnoxious.

Hello there,

In the current state of the game, some of the strongest classes (the meta), are also some of the easiest to pick up.

I would probably advise trying out demon hunter, fury warrior (not arms), or demonology warlock.

Those 3 specialisations don’t require the same level of battlefield awareness as many of the other classes do.

For example I also play Shadow Priest and, whilst they too are strong currently, they require 10x more buttons and much more knowledge of your surroundings, as melee characters will just blindly rush you all game.

I would probably advise against healing, if you’re solely looking for something that’s easy to play right now, as whilst Preservation Evoker are also potent at present, you will experience possible toxicity from other players if you make mistakes.

Overall damage dealers (dps) are easier to play and more forgiving at the moment, so stick with one of those until you grow more comfortable with the game.

Lol, i also feel like I suck at this game.

I even know what my problems are, but i can’t fix them xD

I used to play with gladiatorSA, and now when it does not work for me (which is sad) I eat every CC xD as i do not have a habit to watch enemies cast bar.

Second sin which I have, was starting playing with mouse over healing macros and clicking enemies frames to target them. Maaan, I have keybiningds to target everyone in arena but i NEVER use them even tho I try to remember about it before every arena.

I guess I’m a boomer .

Step 1: Pick DH
Step 2: Pick soulrend talent
Step 3: Throw glaive
Step 4: Roll face across keyboard
Step 5: Profit

If you do not win solo shuffle round by doing these simple steps then its clearly the healers problem they shouldn’t be expecting dh to bind keys outside of basic rotation but they are not prepared like the dh is.

Have fun!

I have an attention deficit, it’s really hard for me to multitask as well.
I am not playing with ANY addons now at all right now, and it really sucks not knowing when people do what hahah.
But for serious pushing you kinda need them. Get a basic addon that shows enemies top cds above their head, fogot the name of that.
Maybe get something to show your big cds somewhere really visible, to track when you can burst and when you are vulnerable.
And for me it’s important to not have my screen full of stuff, because if there is too much, I cant pay attention to it. So there is an audio warning addon, that can take some of the pressure off the “visual” side and onto the auditory side, and I found it much easier to notice stuff when I have a literal voice telling me when something is happening or a CD has been popped. It’s called Gladiatorlos or something like that, used it during sl season 2.

Give it a try, less addons is more. Keep 2-3 good ones, and for pvp, just know how much it takes for a target to die and for you to die, how much damage classes do during cds, and then you can know if you can setup a kill, or when you are being setup for a kill ( can I live this stun? Should I press something or save for now?). Usually only press defensive if enemy presses offensive, and you should climb quickly after these basics.

Playing healer be ready to get bullied.
Players standing in lava till the neck will yell at you, duuuuude, heal?
Add players like that to ignore list and move on. Positive side, insta ques.
Arenas are like learning driving car. At first you will see just gear stick, with practice you will start see more and more around you.
