I am no more having fun

This is going to be long one.
I will List all the Stuff that is bothering me.
Some might agree, some will call me a troll.

  • Let’s start with the Button bloath.

It is getting ridiculous.
Ill use Demonology Warlock as my example. But i am sure most classes suffer from the same problems.

10 Spells to do dmg.
5 Def CD spells + Health Potions
3-5 CC spells
15 Movement/Buff/utility Spells
plus potions/vials/mounts/trinkets/encounter specific buttons.

Arround 30-40+ things to click.

I am trying to keybind the most important ones on F1-F4, R, T, F, G
and i am also using shift/alt/ctrl since its hard to click everyting past Nr. 5/6 on the keyboard.

To be honest, learning to play a piano is propably easier, then the weird hand/finger movement and positioning required to play wow. I am sure many players have a Mouse with like 10+ Buttons.

It might not matter when you lvl up, or do easy content. But after a mythic raid, or several mythic 10+ Dungeons my left hand hurts.

Having 100 meanlingless buttons is less fun then having 5 that are fun to press.

  • Designing the game “against” the player.

Playing any content in WoW feels like everything is designed in such a way, that the player can’t actualy play their class.

Want to cast a spell? Naaah here is a effect that makes you move. You think your good now? Naaah the Boss charges/jumps on your position. Omg nothing is happening? I surely can cast a spell now! Naaah there is a AE silence you missed, because we cant be bothered to design it in a way you can actualy see it comming and now you just stand thre for 5 sec doing nothing. But now ill cast someting! Nope - everything repeats it self.

All while you watch a hunter jump arround doing top DPS. But ill talk about balancing later.

This might be just me, but every day i nuke the training dummys for 20min-1h and im having more fun there, then in any of the endgame content blizzard gives me.
I can actualy play my class for once, trying to play my rotation to perfection. And ill write it again - having fun doing it.

I wrote this a couple years ago, but wow does not have to be like a fast paced shooter or RTS where APM or lack of it makes or breaks it.

  • the R in RPG.

I play Warlock. Allways - i am not a meta picker (yeah ill talk about balancing later).
But it does absolutely not matter in this Game what class you play.

Sometimes - very rarely - a NPC will mention your class in a quest dialog. And it makes me very happy.

But usaly its just champion this, champion that - those filty NPCs!
I am not champion! I am Neriak slayer of Dragons, killer of Gods!
Kneel you cowardly Kings and Kinglings - standing at the sidelines watching me do the dirty work. So that Azeroth and every Realm that needs it gets the saving it deserves.

Har Harrr

Yeah by design i feel like im just a minion of a semi important NPC, taking screan time giving speeches. But it should be about my charakter!

Not Anduin, not Thrall - their Story was over in WC3, but for some weird reason, they keep writing storys for those NPCs and not for my charakter. I wish they would stop doing that.

There where nice ideas, like the class hall in Legion catering to that class feeling. But nothing since then. Me sad

Also there is no adventure, nothing to explore, nothing exciting.
It’s just - kill the same boss 100+ times untill we patch the game and give you a new Boss you can kill 100+ times.

That just sad.

  • Let’s talk about class/game design.

What in the seven hells are you guys doing?
I understand that you guys want every class to feel unique.
And then i enter a M+ where the tank pulls 2 packs of Mobs, and most of them are non elite, so a Pala/Hunter/Warri explodes into them, while i cast my 2. rain of fire and all of them but the 2 Elites die - thinking to myself, yeah i like Rain of fire.

Who is the game designer deserving a left to right slap in da face? ,p

Yes sometimes there are 3-4 pack pulls, all with elites and im bombing my rain of fire sreaming in real life “die scum die, feel the burn of hell”. All while dancing out of the “anti player” mechanics, using all my Def CDs and praying.
And the rest of the dungeon its back to 1 pack, maby 2 packs.

I think every class should have the same chance to do the same dmg in every pull.
You guys get payed to figgure out how to do that and make every class feel unique.

  • Talent trees

Every patch i have to check out the pros on what to skill, then i save the tree and dont touch it for the rest of the patch. While every patch half of the talent tree is “dead”.

There is no point in actualy having those talents. I mean there was a time we had like 5 rows of talents with 3 to choose from and there were allready dead talents. Now you buffed the whole system up - but we can only use half of them, because we dont have the points or the options we could choose are a net dmg loss.

rework the ting again. Or let me use the hole thing!
Yearhhh all Talents for maxmum bang!

  • Balancing

People say it is impossible to balance wow.
Well i do agree, in its current state it seems impossibe.

Main stat + 4 complementary stats that dont give every class the same thing, plus have dimishing returns sometimes at 20% sometimes at 40%, so everyone not siming his/her/neutral char is propably loosing on dps.

Changing with almost every patch and every change they do to the talent trees, then buffung/nerfing stuff for 3% 5% every patch.

Class design, Talent tree, Equipment “bloath”.

  • Weakauras / DBM n stuff

I hate them! Yes i use them but can you plx plx design the game in a way, i dont have to use them? OMG that would rock! Boss animations that give away things hes about to do
I see you are trying some, but plx get rid of those “must have to play wow” add ons.
Also it is not realy possible to play the game with the UI the game designer gives you.

An example are the Health Bars that overlap even when you choose the option for them to stack. Unless you tilt the camera in a way you dont see the floor and the “you get killed” effects. So i often cant interrupt important stuff, because i refuse to use any external UI add ons.

  • sharing “my” data with 3. parties

This is a minor thing, but its odd to find my DPS, mythic achievements, …
on 3. party sites without my consent.

I could write more and for another hour. But i doubt people will read this.
<3 Neriak

edit. yeah there are typos - i dont feel like correcting them.

If you dont find the game fun anymore then just…leave?

Honestly, its a video game. You are allowed to leave, you are allowed to take breaks from it. Everyone has their games when they had a blast in the start then they grew tired from them it stoped.
Playing video game is not some kind of job or contractual obligation where you must play it no matter what.

im trying to leave since the real classic ,p

i think of this post as constructive criticism.

Does often feel with WoW players specifically that there is a certain need to play or something. Hard to describe.

Yeah sucks you’re not having fun anymore OP but how many other games have you quit without writing about it? GL in whatever comes next.

I’d say get an MMO mouse if you can. They make a huge difference.

Tbh for me. I tried them MMO mouses with their mini “keyboards” on the side and it literarly felt that my thumb just presses multiple buttons in a row. So either I had a fat thumb or poor fine motor skills in general.
Looked for something in between. More buttons than your “standart” 2 side buttons but doesnt have a keyboard on the side either.

If you don’t want to fully submit to the rules of our sect, please leave - we don’t want faithless around here

Anyway - nothing new - I was addressing this a while ago - was also told to leave.

Its a video game. I repeat… a video game. One more time with passion… a VIDEO GAME.
Not a job, not an obligation, not a marriage, not a religion, not whatever else.
Now… step two. As a video game, its a LUXURY. Not food, not water, not essential medicine but a luxury. If a person doesnt like said luxury, they are free to move to others.
If I don’t like the coffee served anymore in my usual coffee shop. I just…go to a different shop? I don’t start some nation wide campaign to get my coffee served how I exactly want it.

stop acting as if ppl arent addicted

Then its their own problem to deal with.
Blaming “your dealer” for not providing the product exactly as you want to satisfy your…cravings …is an weird approach to deal with this problem.

I used one until DF which had buttons that were too small which lead to joint and tendon pain in my thumb.

I bought one where the buttons are on a slider and are also bigger and easier to push, which got rid of my issues.

I can’t imagine playing without one. It makes it way easier to dodge AOE because my left hand is only really used to move.

That’s a rather crude way of looking at it.
WoW can certainly be a hobby or a passion point for some, at which point the attachment toward it is naturally raised a bit beyond the typical video game.
I think that’s commonly recognized regardless of which passion or hobby it may be.

Anyway, agree with just about all points raised.
I do think a lot of it is just the nature of the beast, that modern WoW is what it is, warts and all.

Hard to call it criticism when most of it is based on wrong info .

Everything can be a hobby though and if people love it they’ll be back.

This community is super sensitive and easily triggered, so your post will likely be removed soon

Its not constructive criticism. Its pure whining. That is what it is.

L2P. 5 Deff CDs? I wish. 3-5 CC spells as a warlock? YOU wish. Shamans (kings of CC) have 2. And 1 kick. 15 movement buffs? Where! You are a warlock. You got gate and that’s about it.

And learn to key bind. Fun fact: You dont need to key-bind every single thing.

Define “fun”. Cause smashing 100 different buttons at 300 APM is the same result on your hand than pushing 5 buttons at 300 APM. Notice that “APM” did not change? To play your “100 button” rotation mathematically perfect you need 60 APM on average. An average secretary at a law firm spends 8h a day typing at 300 or more APM.

So unless there is a pandemic of disabled secretaries I did not hear about, stop whining and buy a mouse and keyboard pad. Its like watching someone sit like Golum on the couch while complaining that their back hurts…

And I am Uda… hammerer of realism : This is an MMO. You play with others. You might be more “heroic” than an NPC. But not more heroic than everyone else.

Therefore, you are a soldier. One more “champion”. Because an NPC might kneel to you. But Uda, the hammerer of realism… will not.

Blanket whining. That is what it is. Let me explain:

When you play an M+2 dungeon where things have low HP. Melees and “bursty” classes will do more DPS than you. Try doing higher level content. Because lets be honest, nobody cares about a 2+. Especially not you, who claims to raid Mythic and do M+10.

Why?

Oh my god. Cry me a river please !!!

People… nobody tell him what google is doing…

Also. Did you know you dont own your toon? Blizzard simply rents it to you. You own NOTHING about it. So yeah. Blizzard CAN share its own property with 3rd parties if they so wish.

Sure. My point was more that you can be passionate about something in spite of its flaws, but that doesn’t mean the flaws aren’t undesirable.

The viewpoint that if you don’t love WoW unconditionally, then you should just leave it, seems a bit crude and absolutist, and detached from how normal people approach anything in life.

I think the point about a lack of roleplaying is very true.

I think there’s some value in having class trainers in locations that feel relevant to the class you’re playing, and having quests unique to your race and class, to give a sense of personal adventure.
There’s value in having NPCs recognize you for the race you are and the history you have with them, as it fosters a sense of continuity in the game.
There’s value in having agency as a player to make choices about how your character interacts with the story and the objectives of the game, so you feel like you shape your own journey and identity.

And I think the recognition that WoW does less of any of the above today, compared to any time in the past, is also a recognition that the roleplaying element of WoW is diminishing, which is detrimental to the enjoyment of the game.

After all, the idea in WoW is that you play…you.

Talks of quitting are just the natural enemy of talks of starting.

In general people talk about what they are going to do when they aren’t going to do it, perhaps to try to fool themselves.

So sometimes saying “You are free to quit” is the best advice. If at a time what one likes about WoW is less than what they dislike, a break will be in their best interests.
