I Am Undead And I Need Help

…what are you on about?

nobody knows

Alright listen. Roleplay a San’layn all you want but don’t get mad if people IC start cussing you out.

Is that a temporary thing? As in, you need their blood inside you to become one? More of a lore-speculation out of actual interest rather than arguing against the other poster.

I remember this and the countless arguments about that Legion quest-line. The common consensus was that he and his crew were separate from that of San’Layn (Suffering from a curse, rather than being resurrected as undead by the Lich King)

I believe that the Wowpedia article mentions a distinction. I shall go search.

at this point I’m convinced they’re just trying to fire off ha gotcha’s in the hope that she will find the ultimate ha gotcha that will get everyone to kneel and bow which yeah is not going to happen.

In case that isnt whats happening though…

if you actively want to not be lore accurate thats fine but then don’t be suprised when people avoid you because

you’re being lavaman right now

As mentioned before, there are quite a few different things with Vampiric aspects to them in WoW.

Sanl’ayn are probably the closest to direct vampires. They got the hunger for blood, generally evil in personalities, are undead and the same typical appearance.

Venthyr got the look down to a teeth, but they are not undead in the typical sense and don’t drink blood.

The vampirates are undead that can inflict others, are called vampires in some regard and their master sleeps in a coffin.

Nathrezim got vampiric aura, dracula visuals and can turn into bats.

They are not a member of either faction. They affiliate with the old scourge.

The way the mechanic works is that you get bitten. The implication per the description of the curse is that you get the drained blood replaced with Thale’na’s own?

They are separate, yeah. Blood-Thane Lucard predates the creation of the San’layn by centuries, meaning vampirism isn’t unique to them. They’re just the most prolific faction of vampires we’ve been exposed to, and they’re actively called such up to and including capable of infecting others.

My theory is that vampirism originated among the vrykul, and the Scourge appropriated it like it did everything else from the cultures it subjugated.

Even in Under the Shadow of the Sun short story, the concept of vampires is brought up, albeit as an insult, with Renthar likening blood elves sucking the magic out of living beings for survival to what vampires do.

One could also refer to Hearthstone artwork (don’t crucify me) where the depiction of the Sleeping Acolyte makes it pretty clear what trope the San’layn are filling.

If the Hearthstone team had creative input into WoW, it would be a 100 times better.

The forsaken’s entire point is that they are enemies of the Scourge.

Every single morally dubious thing they did before Cataclysm was all driven towards the destruction of the Scourge. Even Putress, Dreadlord-controlled and Horde + Sylvanas-betraying as he was developed a chemical weapon entirely designed to target the undead, and chucked several canisters of it at the Lich King before people chased him into the Undercity to calmly explain to him why betraying the Horde and killing the Alliance isn’t a good idea.

You are taking the “Hi We Love The Scourge And Love Sucking Blood” group and wondering why people are saying that they don’t fit in the “Hi We Will Break Every Single Thing We Thought Was Good And Sacrifice Every Single One Of Ourselves If It Means We Get To Drag The Scourge and The Lich King To Hell With Us” group because they have pointy-eared undead, and that’s clearly enough to qualify.

Always a pleasure

And I’m not arguing all this to advocate vampire RP as you put it, only stating facts from a lore POV. They exist, but their details are vague, and frequently misrepresented in RP. That’s not to say that it can’t be done, but I’d err on the side of caution. Few if any concepts are inherently bad, it’s a matter of execution.

I do appreciate that what we got so far is sticking to the more horror-themed tropes of them being more darker, evil monsters that are quite scary to deal with.

Agreed!

While I am known for my love of sexy vampires, I’m also a huge fan of gothic horror as a literary genre

We got the Venthyr to fill that role.

Agreed, agreed.

And I’ll be the first to admit the fault of the cringy desire to make a vampire/beast hunter once upon a day if these things became prevalent in lore again.

(I played the first 20 minutes of Bloodborne and got an unholy amount of hours in Darkest Dungeon, and thus cannot deny my hidden desires to be edgy)

This is still one of the more unique interesting takes on Vampires I’ve seen aside from The Strain.

I love DD’s vampires.
