I Am Undead And I Need Help

Every single person here probably has atleast 5 characters they used to roleplay or had plans for that, is not remembered fondly(by themselves) because it was made either as young teens or in the heat of the moment after some hype & seeing something cool.

not many do go with the heavier side of their horror sadly. its always about the sexy. which i am a fan of. but i do prefer the horrific bloodsucking eldritch horror from time to time.

If someone wants to RP a sexy vampire (because sadly venthyr’s gonna be a…bit out there?) eso exists. it has established vampire lore that isnt vague. go nuts.

That being said: my favourite vampire’s are from guild wars. absolutely sexy beasts. truly.

im in this picture and i dont like it

Darkest Dungeon’s take on them is well-dressed nobles with strange masks that makes them look slightly off until revealing mid-combat that they are insectoid hybrids(Tics, Mosquitoes etc so literal bloodsuckers) that go into a mad frenzy over blood.

I did not heed the warning of buying the blood court DLC would passively make the run more difficult.

After those ungodly crimson mosquitos knee-capped half my run by disabling things in the hamlet, I finally ventured out to the yeeyee 1800’s decadent Frenchmen to stop the cap.

I was victorious, but lost my main healer (named after my CO-GM) and my 2 best DPS (named after my officers). My guild laughed at me, I was extremely saddened because I had to be so adamant about naming each party member after my guildies. The first run after blood court didn’t last long. :pensive:

Depends on the undead, wouldn’t you agree?

Just what kind of undead do some people love that I need to accept? The forsaken of Lordaeron? The Ebon Blade?

I recall, it was peak vampire design. I am always a fan of those that go all in on the monster aspect and a comparrison to insects is something that should be done more.

Remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.

They are an absolute pain to deal with, but I do like that it makes you want to go into the courtyard JUST TO GET THEM TO STOP SHOWING UP.

Nothing more terrifying than also running into the Fanatic after one of your heroes caught the crimson curse.

(I also like that Colour of Madness added a wandering boss too).

While I’m on the topic, I’m going to indulge in a rant about Twilight and its consequences on vampire literature as a genre. Take a seat and listen, because I’m not letting you go until we’re done.

And by that I mean that Twilight isn’t part of it, not truly. I don’t say this as a gatekeeper, but that Twilight is fundamentally a YA love drama using vampires as a prop, but that by itself doesn’t make it part of the vampire genre.

By its inception the genre was defined as an allegory for the predatory behaviour of evil men masquerading as kind and good people among us. While it always carried an erotic undertone from the beginning starting with The Vampire by Ossenfelder, where the premise is a vampire visits a virgin Christian maiden in the night and corrupts her with his seduction so powerful that even a mother’s love cannot compare anymore, the focus is not on the  kiss my neck mommy/daddy  but on the predatory power dynamic that’s at play.

If you take vampires out of Twilight, the story and its themes won’t fundamentally change. But due to its rapid rise in the early 2010s that catapulted the dark YA genre into its popularity (which is a genre I also enjoy! I’ll be posting an essay about the Shadow and Bone next) and its immediate association with vampires as its selling point, it has dealt irreparable damage to the vampire literary genre in the minds of people who have read neither.

True vampire literature focuses on the predatory power dynamic between the vampire and their victim, and how they’re evil people who wear the facade of goodness to seduce their victims, which is a social commentary all too relevant 300 years after Ossenfelder popularised it. Later on it got co-opted for kinky dom erotica and fairy smut, but I haven’t read ACOTAR enough (yet) to comment on whether it’s tasteful.

but also  bite my neck mommy and/or daddy

I am also a big sucker(hehe) of the Strain’s take on them. It goes more into folklore with their history and also weaknesses like can’t cross water, sunlight, silver etc.

But their unique spin on it is that the ancient vampires are the sentient one, that then infect people with a literal virus worm that turns them into essentially vampiric thralls with no humanity or greater intelligence, just hungry beasts that can be commanded. Which in turn can also infect others.

So its treated like a virus.

Sorry, this is now a Darkest Dungeon/Eldritch-Gothic Horror thread. We’ve hijacked it.

Two words: The Collector.

My best (early) run got shut down so hard due to a loot-heavy dungeon, and me not having a good setup to counter him (He is now my favorite encounter with more hours logged). But this game unironically made me anxious at times of playing.

Fear & Hunger is the next on my list. Apparently my fellow Finngolians are cranking out depressing schizo games as of late. (Cruelty Squad, looking at you)

I-- Uh… Yeah. Yeah whatever you said.

The amount of times he has killed me too. A fun encounter but immensely frustrating to deal with if not atleast somewhat prepared.

On that note, I lost a really good run and heroes once because the one time I decided keep going after my torches ran out(It was only like 2 rooms left to explore) I of course get a wandering Shambler the moment my toch light was at 0.

Basically, never let your guard down.

Quote my message where I say that a) San’layn are members of the Horde b) I play a San’layn c) players should play something that doesn’t exist in the game and cannot possibly be there

a Forsaken elf is trying to diss a Forsaken elf, ha

P.S. my favourite vampires are from the movie Queen of the Damned. Love the balance between sexy and deadly.

I’ve not seen it, but heard about it! And gives me similiar vibes(atleast the vampires) to ‘From Dusk Til Dawn’.( Until before they transform in that movie though, because those effects are…something)

I mean , not exactly it. But you do bring a lot of semantics so why not throw it back at you’s.

I, uh…

I don’t think… That is the point of the argument in any way either? The confusion grows each time you post.

I’m just confused to be honest. I don’t understand the point.

Talking DD and vampires makes alot more sense.

You don’t, but that’s because of your absolutely incorrect assumption that San’layn is a political term only (like blood or high elf) and not a designation for a race (like a void elf).

They’re a specific type of vampiric undead elf who, before it got retconned for no reason, were called Darkfallen (or San’layn in Thalassian). Now they only have the Thalassian name designating them, and as it’s the only word that we can use to describe them, when we say San’layn, we mean the specific type of undead creature. Conveniently, all of these undead are loyal to the Scourge.

So, while in your mind you never said San’layn can be part of the Horde, you did actually say that San’layn can be part of the Horde, because you’re here defending the right of an undead that is, both in lore and among RPers, called San’layn, to be in the Horde if they wish so.
Get it now?
