I’m play a level 44 holy priest. I’ve done every quest in every zone upto Badlands. I have my mount but i cant afford any skills. I have 20 spells to learn but i only have 2 gold. I struggle to heal in Uldaman and SM because my skills are a poor rank and i keep having to buy water. Is this becuase of the faster leveling? I decided to take my time and not power level becuase i missed original classic due to University. What am i doing wrong???

Pick up everything you find and sell it if you are not already doing that.
Also, som is about powerlevelling. Era is about taking your time.
need farm 50 hours week then u can play the game maybe
I think most players will nearly spend all their gold on the lvl 40 mount + riding skill.
But after that it shouldn’t be to hard to get some extra cash. Some tips.
Don’t buy gear on AH, only the items you really need (basically food and drinks) or ask kind mages for those.
Don’t buy spells that you don’t really need.
Farm certain items (rock elementals Badlands), learn a gathering profession and farm.
If you can’t manage your gold, don’t pick a profession that’s to expensive to level.
Dungeon runs can give you some cash (Uldaman and ZF are good for some money).
Vendor all junk and play the AH with good items, flip AH items. I see way to many people sell stuff on the AH below the vendor price, which in my opinion doesn’t make sense if you want to make money.
You’re just getting at a lvl that quests will give you more money + quest rewards that can sell for a few gold.

I find stacks of drinks that drop on the AH cheaper than at a vendor. I bet you just vendor everything and don’t sell it on the AH or make stuff out of it?
What are your professions? You should get Tailoring and Enchanting.

Get an addons that tell you the vendor price of items. So when you do a quest, you pick the best reward to sell in vendor. It’s how you make gold while questing.
And like ppl said, don’t buy useless spell. Buy only rank and spell that matter.

What your doing wrong is your spec! (after lvl40 = shadow till at least 50-55 if u plan on healing later)
U dont need to be holy to heal dungeons!
U dont need to learn every spell, smite/holy fire etc u can leave behind, get heal spells and shadow (mind sooth can be usefull, specially if you have a gathering profession)
Work on your professions, even small stuff can pay out well!
If u put talent points in spirit tap, and wand, u can basicly quest without drinking!
YES water is expencive, playing priest myself , i know the struggle! thats why the talents are so important!
Get a mage in your guild to make you water! Mages are your friends! If u get a high lvl mage to make your water, he can knock out 20 units per cast, takes them no time at all!
So what to now? Ur kinda stuck, judging by your text i dont suposse ur able to borrow gold for a guildie or something. No worries! Take a day off from lvling, go after some well selling fish (the ones raiders use), or cloth or reagent of some sort (dont invest to much in professions like enchanting etc, thats gold u need atm)
Or if you are set on continueing, find a warrior or something! U should be able to easely keep him up! And they are happy if they can mass pull quests mobs and dont have to worrie about dying! Plus u make friends if u wanna do jump runs later on!
But most important thing u do is respec to shadow, get the right talent! (can find them easy on wowhead or icyveins) Cause that means u can quest without any costs!
its weird u picked holy in the first place, even for healing i would have guessed disc at least 
For futher information , i would like to sugest youtube! There are some great videos about do/donts , and for people who are new to classic or priests!
Also before i forget, get a AH addon! In classic they are so helpfull, and will help u save money, and give u info on how valueble things are!
