I can't decide: PvP or PvE realm?

I try back to Classic. I want to create new character, druid. But I can’t decide to choose PvP or PvE server. I am not very patient person and I affraid, that PvP is not for me, and also affraid, that community on PvP servers are more toxic. But I feel that PvE realms are unbalanced (there are very high population of Alliance and very low of Horde). And also, I like some PvP in game and affraid that I will loose some content on PvE servers. I would like to read your experiences, what you prefer? Are you think that PvP servers are more toxic and tryhard?

Hey Kalcegor! Before Classic has started, I was asking the same questions. I was used to play on PvP servers, I remember very funny and good moments there, wPvP was fun etc.
Before Classic, I tried one vanilla pserver and played on PvP for a while. And honestly, I was disgusted. The wPvP has disappeared. There was only disgusting non-stop griefing, corpse camping, blackmailing and toxic behavior. You couldn’t play normally - there were organised guilds, which has only task - to wipe the competition from the other faction.
After these experiences, I said: “F… wPvP, I can live without it. I want to play the game, not being bullied by some asocials who enjoy bullying others 24/7.”
And now, I’m here on PvE server. It was the best decision I made for sure. Server is living organism, on each level you find there groups for every dungeons, not only that boost bullshi*s, the community is relaxed and you can choose from many guilds, casual, semi-hardcore, or hardcore, if you want to push your limits. I play on Mirage Raceway, where maybe on one horde player are 3-4 alliances, still I don’t feel any issue with the lack of horde players, because the population on server is huge, far bigger than 15 years ago.
So I recommend you PvE server for sure, maybe RPPvP (but I dunno the situation there).

I play on MIrage Raceway like you , only i’m on Alliance side. Just wondering, how Horde doing on MR ?

Many thanks for your precise reply <3 I was thinking about joining Pyrewood Village but MR could be nice too ^^

Pyrewood Village is great, lots of groups for dungeons / raids

Can’t speak for Horde but Pyrewood Village is the best! So many friendly players and whenever I can’t do something alone there’s mostly someone nearby who I can ask to help me. Stormwind is crowded as hell though but it doesn’t give any lag and I personally like busy cities in games. Lower levels always players, especially in the zones of the most popular races (Elwynn forest because of human meta) but I guess a zone where most Horde players end up in Durotar will be busy enough to not feel dead even with the lower Horde pop. ^^

Thanks you all for replies. I think I will stick with PvE server, I am not tryhard and I think it will be better for me ^^

As a druid you are pretty safe in a pvp environment. Druids can almost escape from every situation and then hide in stealth. In that sense you can decide which fights to take.

I would not be able to play this game on a pve server because open world pvp is something i enjoy the most about this game. I don’t care if i am not able to farm or quest super efficiently and i gladly get involved in some action with other players.

PvE servers look like a boring safe space where nothing bad can ever happen to you. If that’s what you need then go for it.
I don’t think that most players on a pvp server are super tryhard and elite gamers… it’s far from the truth, there are a lot of bad players in MMORPGs. Don’t be scared to get involved. Corpse-runs aren’t that bad

Already enough danger with the mobs, and when not having the luxury of guaranteed uninterrupted time like kids or singles do, I’m happy that I can at least scratch my butt while taking a sip from my coffee without having to constantly log out or teleport to a city…

There is no need to justify your decision. Play the game how you want to play it.
Your way of playing the game would just be too boring for me and i am still able to drink coffee while playing on a pvp server ^^
There is almost no punishment for dying to pvp in this game by the way… in fact you get additional time to scratch your butt and drink coffee during the corpse run :stuck_out_tongue:

The only reason to go PvP is if you actively want to gank / grief others. There will be none of that occasional fun wPvP to spice things up that you maybe remember from vanilla. Just scores of jobless sociopaths that make it their goal to make your gameplay as miserable as possible. That, and world buff dispellers, but you probably won’t get to that fun aspect of PvP before TBC hits. Speaking of which, if you step through the dark portal on PvP server, expect to get instantly divebombed by 10 lvl 70s on epic flying mounts. And they will proceed to keep you there at the portal for next two hours. Just to make a point.
What I’m saying, is go to PvE with clear conscience. You will not be missing anything of value, and gain much.

From what I have seen Pyrewood Village is the most balanced PvE realms, but why you would want that I have no idea. I want the most amount of players on the realm to be the faction I choose.

The only good reason to start on a PvP server at this point is if you aim to find a really hardcore PvE guild. Most, if not all, of those are on PvP servers.

Do you enjoy being repeatedly ganked, corpse camped and one-shotted by bored level 60 while levelling until you are forced to log out?

If the answer is yes, PVP servers are for you.
If the answer is no, PVE servers are for you.

Ganking/getting ganked is occasional fun wPvP, no?
I mean if one only ganks players that have no chance anyway then it’s not that fun and it just makes one look bad. Ganking is risky too if one wants to figure out what kind of opponents are beatable and which aren’t.
I have been ganked many times and i killed the ganker. For me that’s a pretty fun part of the game. You see, these gankers are welcome content for me.

Not every player knows what it means to be an honorable pvper but saying that the only reason to play on pvp server is griefing/ganking is just narrow minded. What if you want to be a more honorbale pvper? One that fights against these bad boi gankers to teach them a lesson? One could be a hero if one is able to help an ally that gets bullied.
One does not need to gank others that are in a bad situation on a pvp server - somtimes horde and alliance are pretty peaceful. When i see enemy players i watch them handle their business and let them know that i am here to be their next fight, so they can get ready for it. Winning like this is more satisfying than killing victims and there is no need to camp them.

I never encountered those sociopaths that want to ruin my game experience over the last year. I assume those are playing on the big streamer-servers or i was just able to deal with them myself.

I can make some dumb statements about pve servers too:
The only reason to go PvE is if you are bad at the game and easily get angry/frustrated.

I dunno if I’d be having a lot of fun as a level 25 against a lvl 60 in T3 gear.
You literally have zero chance at fighting back, even if the T3 dude started at like 2% hp you’d be unable to kill him while he simply glances in your direction and you’d be dead.
While WPvP can be fun let’s be honest and say for the most part it’s really only done to grief.
Don’t get me wrong here, I love PvP in Classic, anyone can see the Rank 13 shoulders in that portrait of mine there, but I like to PvP when I want to PvP.
Not have my low level alt camped by some bored guy who’s willing to camp me for 5 hours in a row.

Yeah, you should really not believe those ‘heroic’ tales of world PvP between Tarren Mill Vs South Shore. It’s being ganked and griefed 24/7 espcially if you’re not part of the dominant faction, mostly by level 60’s who will actively patrol leveling zones to corpse camp lowbies or alternatively wait for someone to pull a mob and ambush you when you’re at 50% health. They will keep it up for hours making it impossible to level open world, usually under the guise of ‘trying to start something’.

Only to stealth, log-off if there is any sign of people showing up who could actually kill them. When you do hit 60 be prepared to be constantly farmed by rogue teams who will wait at FP’s, Dungeon entrances and transport hubs only to vanish and sprint if they’re not able to one-shot you.

PvE servers are ‘normal’ severs, you can still do actual PvP as intended. Just sign up to your battleground when you’re in the mood for some actual ‘balanced’ combat. I see more and more people migrate to one.

PvP realm = I want to gank and get ganked
PvE realm = I don’t want to gank nor get ganked

Don’t roll a PvP realm with the intent of never interacting with the opposing faction, it just doesn’t make sense, but I know they are people that do this.

Uneven fights happen. Especially in MMORPGs. Even if the levels are the same, fights can still be super onesided because of the gear and class balance. Then the number of players involved can also be unequal. Sometimes you get killed by a group and you can’t do anything and sometimes you can 1v2 or 1v3 and win.

It just feels like every time someone stronger attacks someone weaker the community calls it “griefing”. As if everyone is expert at evaluating what a fair fight in classic wow is…
