I don't get this deserter debuff

I know they changed the debuff you get in dungeons when you are kicked because people begged to be kicked because they didn’t like the dungeon but i don’t know what is worse, kicking that guy and finding someone else (1 min) or having someone getting kicked and punished for no reason.

Right now i join a dungeon in Vortex pinnacle , i join mid fight with the packs that heal themselves , when i join the tank is almost dead and dies within 10 seconds, all the mobs are immune to cc and interrupts already , everything is a mess. We wipe.

What do they do? Kick me because ofc the group of guildies is not the problem is the random guy that arrives in a bad scenario.

15 minutes to get into a dungeon
30 min debuff
15 minutes to get into a dungeon and hopefully not getting kicked again.

1 hour effectively wasted which is the time i’ve mid shift. GG Blizzard.

I have a list of proposed suggestions, if you have one I’d recommend to suggest it so I can add it to the master list :eyes:

Proposals so far include but not limited to:

  • “Just remove it” The darkest times will come back again
  • “Reduced cooldowns stacking upwards” so that if you aren’t kicked often, it starts with a minor debuff.
  • “Reduced cooldowns, stacking downwards” so if you’re in a “good” party, then when they surprisepikachu kick you at the end the cooldown is lower.
  • “Warning before Debuff” - When you get removed from dungeon you get a Warning but allows you to requeue, if you get kicked again you get debuffed on subsequent leaves.
  • “Add reporting for kicking” - This is akin FF where they investigate if someone is really, really using votekick so often and gets reported for it that often as well. WoW used to do this.

If you have a proper suggestion, you may submit it through the ingame feedback box. I also would like to know to see if the suggestion can be improved making it into a better experience for everyone involved.

that are good suggestions i’d say 2,3 and 4 are the best, ideally there should be some karma system in place where if you are generally a good player according to some objective metrics (no leave, no afk, no self deaths etc etc) you have some sort of protection, or at least you don’t get the debuff.

Report system in modern days is completely unsurveilled , you can mass report anyone and that guy gets kicked or banned automatically without further investigation, is not only a Blizzard issue but this game has a subscription so you would expect higher quality client service but it has gone downhill since wotlk.

This mass report system is easily exploitable i think you should have some protection if you’re the lone wolf in a group of guildies or people from the same server, you shouldn’t be kicked because you won a roll or a seeked item drops but it happens and doesn’t get punished.

90% of time i see a voting for kick the guy is kicked before i can even read the reason, nor detect that blatant offense , people got used to say yes everytime is a community issue that has become worse over the years but imo should be issued by blizzard in some way.

My main suggestion would be to put ‘Raid Finder’ deserter debuff back to how it was. Raid finder did have ‘loot leavers’ after the first boss’, but it rarely caused an issue. You almost always got a replacement tank during the trash clear to the next boss, or someone would just switch spec. The entire discussions leading up to the deserter debuff changes were very clear that the proposed changes were for group finder dungeons (not raids).

A good example of why raid finder deserter debuff should be removed would be ‘Raszageth’. I got the mount early on, but always enjoyed this raid, so usually queued for it weekly anyway, to help out people new to it etc.

Reasonably often, though, you would end up with 15 dps, 1 healer, no tanks. Just sitting there, waiting. This definitely happened when there were Broodkeeper Diurna wipes.

This new system would have punished so many people for being stuck in ‘less popular’ raid groups, facing a guaranteed deserter debuff if LFG can’t find tanks for the raid.

If we are going to have challenging bosses in raid finder with the dungeon-finder deserter rules applked to the raids, the only options would be to

  • put deserter (for raids) back to how it was before the dungeon-finder deserter was changed
  • ensure we don’t have challenging bosses like Raszageth going forward (careful design changes for each boss in LFR mode, kind of like Dathea Ascended, who in LFG mode had most mechanics removed)
  • some kind of heuristic system that detects problem bosses; outcome data from all LFG raids could be analysed, using machine learning for pattern detection (a simple example would be repeated batches of 15 people all getting half-hour deserter debuffs after all sitting around, no tank, for 15 minutes). The algorithm would need tuning to correctly pick up issues. It could then be reviewed at weekly team meetings, and changes made to address issues. Or, ideally, it could dynamically ‘not give deserter debuff’ to the 15 people who didn’t give up the Raszageth fight, but now there are no new tanks’.

The first (keeping the dungeon-finder deserter changes restricted to dungeon-finder) is probably the easiest fix for the unexpected application of dungeon-finder hotfixes to raid-finder

Whoever designed this system to be this way needs serious psychological help. 4 guildies decide to kick me in a random time walking dungeon out of nowhere, and I get 30 mins deserter debuff.

So the logic here is that some creatures decide to kick me for god knows what reason, and I get punished for it? It is like someone shooting me and me going to jail for it. Makes perfect sense I guess.
