I don't like the new player experience at all

I am not technically a new player but when I previously played, I was just playing old expansions and not the expansion at that time (legion)

Now I wanted to try the experience as intended and that is to play the new expansion

I boosted my character and started questing

My problem is that my boosted character is so weak it takes a lot to kill mobs, impossible to kill mini bosses and I die a lot.

Yes, am pretty sure a veteran player can run through it at ease, as someone who doesn’t know the game/don’t remember anything useful, the lack of a tutorial plus the starting areas being so hard make it so not enjoyable. I want these areas to teach me my rotations, my spells, build my muscle memory and all, not constantly trying to guess mobs mechanics and wait 3 min after each mob to heal back, it’s so frustrating and I don’t feel like continuing tbh, if there’s a way to power level through other means and come back do these easily so I can just enjoy the story in a chill mode I would like to know about that

Or if there’s something am missing that make these easy I would like to know as well

thank you

Still depends on the gear - if you’re going there with nothing but leveling gear, some things will still be tough, and it also depends on the class you play. Even at low levels, I found it a pain to play as a rogue due to taking damage like a wet noodle. That’s why I gave up on rogue.

It’s an interesting concept of playing as intended. I would have said playing as intended was starting from 1 and levelling to cap. Boosting a character is skipping levelling. So it’s no wonder you are feeling a bit lost. However, it’s still possible to pick up on what you need to be doing and catch up.

There are lots of resources available to you to help you learn how to play your class.

Each class tends to have it’s own discord too.

Doesnt help if this toon is the one you’re levelling, Rogues are a bit squishy.

Can’t honestly say they are a class I enjoy playing.

I am with you on starting from one to learn properly, and that is what I did when I first tried it, I wanted to play from level 1 and play through all the previous expansions. I played for 3 months I think, I did every quest in every zone, and I was reading every quest as well, am interested in the story. It got so boring and I wasn’t able to reach the new expansion, also the stories felt incomplete, and it wasn’t the real expansion experience, my character outleveled the zones I "need " to do to progress in order. That is why now my concept of “as intended” is just starting with the new expansion, however I don’t know if you can start the new one at level 1, I don’t know how the game works, I assumed this area starts at 60.

And since the game has the boosters concept on, it should give you the same experience as someone who played previously when you use them. I expect my booster to make me able to run the content am intended to run upon using my booster

I do understand just wanting to jump into :rofl:end game. However I don’t agree that the game can give you the same experience with a boost as levelling. When levelling you gain abilities slowly, when boosting you get them all at once. However you can look up what your rotation should be etc.

There is no tutorial as such and the closest thing is the starter isle Exile’s Reach which aims to teach someone totally new to MMOs how the very basic things work.

Your first character in Dragonflight will need to do the main campaign/storyline through each zone. You can ignore side quests. The 50% bonus to levelling will make it go pretty quick. I’ve levelled three chars from 60-70 so far, each took a couple of days for me.

When I level alts which I have no idea how to play I may die a few times but I still get there

I am well aware of the class being inferior to others and requires a higher skill ceiling, however, I am only interested in the rogue class. I play MMORPG’s because they have the rogue class the way I like, I have 0 interest in any other class. Maybe later if I invest a lot of time in the game and am fine with my character I would try others, but as an interest I only like to play the rogue class in any mmo

So I’m not sure what spec you are but if you aren’t subtlety that could explain it, rouges are one of if not the worst solo levelers cause you dont really have many survivability tools other than crimson vile, thats why stealth is so nice, and if you are playing sub it’s not gonna get better till you are at cap cause they are highly gear and stat dependant but the reason it’s hard to balance is cause when they are geared and statted they are one of the best dps classes in the game, long rant I know.

If you want to power lvl I’d recommend doing dungeons and crafting for gear, I think the main thing is you need reliable gear, cause the way its going the gear difference between patches is kind of insane, so when you first arrive at dragon isles its gonna be a bit ouchie bouchie but then at max lvl it’s a breeze, like for instance i dont even have 420 ilvl or 4-set and i two shot mobs out in the world.

All in all I’d say either find a friend who will help and make your lvling experience enjoyable and fun or do purely the story quests till about half way ( you should be fully geared out in dragon isles gear by then, and have a decent hang of your class/spec) then proceed how you feel fit, definetely get crafting though.

At the starting level (depending on what race you choose) you will start at the races starting zone then make your way through the previous expacs (if you use Chromie time) to crash through from level 1 (or whatever starting level again depending on race and class) to 60 then the game puts you straight into Dragonflight and the game will assume you are ready for it.

Remember your booster will just let you skip 59 levels, give you basic gear and give you talents and abilities up to that level. The game stops giving out freebies after that.

I would suggest you start fresh and take advantage of the current exp boost to get you better equipped as it were for when you go into the Dragon isles, I found that gear drops were pretty far and in between when levelling my main and alts in the Isles. but good luck to you whatever you choose to do and hopefully it doesn’t put you off.

Ah yea the target is just to reach endgame and pvp, am not even as interested in the story as before, I don’t enjoy running story quests as before but that’s another topic

So you say to ignore side quests and go through the main one? that would be more doable?

because am doing the side quests as a way to drop more gear and to level up more, so it makes the others easier, I don’t know

Do the main story since you have to complete that one anyway on your first character. Then finish leveling in dungeons or something.

The main storyline is needed on your first char after that any other alts are free to choose whatever route they wish.

Once you hit cap it should be a lot easier to gear up for PvP, you can either buy a set of basic PvP greens or just jump in to PvP farm gear.

So the spec is assassination, I will look into changing it to subtly see if it has more survivability, yes I only have 1 healing vile and that’s it, I use some evasion but the damage output is still low so the fights take long and I run out of resources to escape

I didn’t try dungeons yet, I got my first dungeon quest, I will try and see if that’s gonna be doable, I practically don’t have “dps”

and the friend option is not gonna be available to go through this but yea surely a group would make it way faster

I do have the leatherworking and skinning professions, am trying to level, but to get into crafting that’s a whole tutorial on its own of what’s best and all, I usually keep this till after going through the story

Yeah assasination is kinda rough rn, late game its not really wanted in mythics and its very skill dependant.

If you dont have a m8 or a guildie who can help if you want I can try to come help you through some of it so you can get to actually njoying the fun part of the game sooner.

So the main quest chapter 2 ended in me having to kill a boss, a player was there and helped me and we killed it but I don’t think I could’ve killed it alone, matter of fact the other player died when the boss was at 5% and I still died

so that’s why am doing the side quests to drop more gear and level a bit more so I can kill these bosses

I dont think its intended new players boost their first characters.

If u boost, ur kinda asking for this to become a problem, theyre not gonna throw the tutorial to the game into DF. Incase of this.

Exile island is a 1-10 island which is the tutorial, but boosting removes u from experiencing that.

Levelling is used, to delay time between each ability to allow u to adjust to the rotation as it grows, if ur gonna jump in the deep end, and take all of it at once ofcourse ur gonna struggle.

It was the one that came with it and I was like fine keep it, let’s get used to something, didn’t think it through. I will see where to change and all if we can change it as much as we can with no penalties or so

Yea, am playing this game solo atm, I was supposed to join a casual guild of my friend, funny thing, I asked him before boosting which realm I should be in to join and he said it doesn’t matter any realm, then when I told him to invite me, he said, I can’t, different realm

but yea sure we can try if you’re free, am playing today, right now actually

I don’t think rogue is a good choice for a less experienced player.
I did the Human heritage questline on my rogue alt recently. I found it quite squishy (particularly in the Northshire Abbey section). My rogue is level 61 or 62 with 252 pre-patch gear, so well geared for that level. But I don’t play this character much in current content so I’m not very familiar with all the tricks (Feinting or what-not).

Sorry this isn’t the most helpful posts given your current situation. I would suggest trying something with plate armour and a tank spec as an easier way into the game.

Also leveling is quite quick these days (even more so with the xp buff just now). And leveling is a good time to learn your class a bit better. Saying that the game does a poor job in general teaching its players how to play the game, their class or their role.

I know it doesnt matter to group, AH or use any functions.

However, as far as im aware for both crafting orders and guilds yes this remains a obstacle. It sounds like this maybe of been poorly communicated to you sadly.

However do know, theres lots of communities / discord groups which both do help new players also theres a class discord which u can ask questions in avaliable.

Some friends / people u can talk to can always help as its much more active when ur able to ask when ur stuck rather then coming back to list issues.

Do also know, theres a levelling event ongoing 50% extra exp. So if u intend to lrvel other classes maybe a good time also

Yes, I am aware of the rogue being harder and requires a higher skill level, but the thing is, I play MMo’s in general to play rogue, I don’t want to play any other class, they don’t interest me. Later on, if I invest in the game I can try others, but I play the game cause it has a rogue basically so this is not an option, if I have to play another character then all interest would be out of the window

I am going through them, trying to get as many gear as level as I can from the quests that I can actually finish, it’s just that it’s taking more time than am willing to put on these events, and I know that this will make me get bored faster than probably reaching the endgame, that’s all
