Hello.
few days ago i started to play cata classic and i leveled to 40 and i should say something.
after all of these years i saw how the old wow or world of warcraft was .
when i compare it to Df i can clearly see how disconnected Devs are from their game and their players.
I really hate leveling in wow because i have more than 30 characters in eu realms and i did this leveling so many times but during this leveling in cata i didnt feel it that way, even that its slower and its old but you can feel the essence of the game or what its left of it.
I dont know if its just me or you think like this
they should mix modern wow and the old ones and create something better.
when i was leveling i found out there is so many things that i forgot about the wow during this years and now im seeing and doing it again.
for example
1:game is simple but it makes you to walk for a while and see every zone in detail when your leveling.
2: its harder. and the rewards of the quests are more worthy and you can feel the power increase with each new item.
3:when i read the spells i can see how strong they are for example 310% weapon damage.
4: THIS ONE I LIKE THE MOST there are so many stats when you look at your character that i forgot that was in the game till i started to play the game again
and more.
in my opinion they should mix the classic and modern game and creating something better out of it .
No thank you. I love retail, going back to Classic makes me appreciate it even more so. Enjoy your Classic.
So…what is it?
- You hate leveling, but you enjoyed walking through all the zones and experiencing missed content.
- Leveling harder? How? You don’t have the buffs or stronger gear if that is what you meant, or the streamlined scaling.
- Matter of perspective, cause 310% weapon damage is an arbitrary number requiring you to find your weapon damage and calculate it vs spell does 500-1000 damage.
- This I truly disliked about the older expansions. We had too many stats. Balancing a character around all of the stat breakpoints was too much of a hassle. Not that the new system is that much better, but a better interface overall telling you that certain thresholds were reached would be nice.
there are so many problems in the old game yes.
thats why i said they should mix the classic and modern so they can create something better out of them
hmmm… OP isn’t entirely wrong though… Our playerbase is split up between people who wanna play the old wow and retail…
Eventually Blizzard has to do something to bring us all together again? Or do they intend us all too play several different versions of the game forever?
Like they can’t do this forever… Eventually a reunification has too happen… No matter how you like it or hate it… Retail has too become a place for all the old and new alike.
Mixing these systems feels honestly counter-productive, and will most likely create an even bigger mess. I’d advocate instead for a simplified approach to gearing a character.
- Make it obvious what your main attributes are.
- Make it obvious when a threshold is reached and increasing that attribute does nothing.
Gearing
Make gear more valuable again. Let epics be epics again. Make rares again the path of gearing using heroic dungeons. Allow people to collect a dungeon “set” through heroic runs. And once they jump into mythic or raids, let those instances drop special catalysts you need to upgrade this blue gear into it’s epic equivalent and retain the gear. Do not reset gear every season, simply let us use what we have and keep enhancing it.
The problem is they don’t understand MMO’s anymore. They think it’s just a different set of preferences, but actually it’s just several compromised versions of the game (except Hardcore, that one really is its own thing) where some people put more emphasis on A being good while others put emphasis on B being good.
WoW has 4 core design pillars:
- Great combat - only Cata really succeeds here, and retail moderately succeeds in some cases
- Sense of world - Vanilla wins hands down, with Cata second, and Retail a distant third. SoD tries to do this but comprehensively mucks it up by making the riddles so hard that everybody just solves them with WoWHead. There really is no other way.
- Sense of community - Classic in general does a far better job of this than retail, which has had so many community features added that they’ve destroyed the underlying MMORPG community
- Constant stream of content - Only real contenders are SoD and retail, and retail does it vastly better. Classic as well but only if you haven’t ever played it before, which most people have.
I genuinely believe that if they could slow down the combat so its more comprehensible and take off all these training wheels that make you just follow the arrow while ignoring everybody, that would be the ultimate version of WoW.
But they’re not, so we’re here.
Just stay in classic forum then.
Couldn’t have described it any better.
Thank you for the well put and constructive reply Ishayo. Like Keento said… I couldn’t have worded it better.
Your smarter than me by far and you put the issue way more on the nose than I could ever hope to do
Combat in retail is much better than Cata, and that’s not even debatable.
I just don’t see classic players wanting to play retail because most classic players only care about raid logging and dislike m+.
Not to mention they prefer easier/simpler class design, which is happening in retail, but it will remain more complex than Cata or Vanilla.
Keeping the two games separate is just better for the game, they clearly have plans to add new content for them to enjoy eventually.
Level 30 characters in Cataclysm classic and tell me you still dont feel that way.
no i have 30 in retail.
i started to play classic and i went to 41 just now.
since the start of Classic cata half of the DF players went there
even bots and gold sellers went to Cata classic.
they should mix modern and classic and bring all of their players in one place.
and from what i see most of you guys are negative that if they do this they will ruin it , i know they destroyed so many good things in wow but IM POSITIVE THAT IF THEY MIX BOTH OF THEM IT WILL FIX A LOT OF PROBLEMS
Thats my point. Obviously leveling in Cata classic feels fun and fresh the first time you do it, but if you leveled 30 characters in it, like you did in retail, you might not be as excited about it.
People always go to whats new and exciting, and bots and goldsellers go where the players go. Once the novelty wear off, people will disperse again.
Hell no.
Blizzard kinda has too though? Or are we going to stay divided for ever? Eventually Blizzard will run out of old versions too make classic out off before its no longer considered classic…
Eventually Blizzard has too reunite classic and retail players again… Love it or hate it. But its inevitable…
I am not a huge fan of classic either… And I don’t want it in my retail as well… But eventually… Blizzard has too do something to bring us all back together…
We can’t have X amounts of wow versions splitting the playerbase up forever.
BRO I HAVE ALL OF THOSE CHARACTERS IN RETAIL NOT CATA I JUST STARTED TO PLAY CATA CLASSIC FEW DAYS AGO. DID YOU EVEN READ?
retail is good but i don’t get the wow vibes from it all
Did you? i know you have 30 characters on retail, thats not the point im making.
Retail and Cata are the same for this, not sure what you’re referring to.
Maybe a little harder for some specs but levelling in Cata is pretty close to retail, the quests are the same quests if you choose to do the Cataclysm route, Cata has a lot of heirloom items that kill item progression, moreso than retail because Blizzard nerfed the heirlooms to make levelling gear more competitive
If Cata is harder, it’s not by a lot, not compared to Vanilla/TBC especially.
The only difference is Blizzard changed things like % weapon damage tooltip into displaying the calculated value instead. Mortal Strike for example “A vicious a attack that deals 54,887 damage”
What difference does this make? In the past there were even addons that did the calculation for you like Dr Damage, Blizzard just baked it into the game.
Retail removed stats like dodge/parry that were tank only and had them become a conversion of primary stats, and removed hit/expertise, they also added in Versatility and tertiary stats like Speed, Avoidance and Leech (these in particular were cool additions).
Don’t forget that Cataclysm while adding Mastery, also removed a tonne of stats including Block Rating, Block Value, Armor Penetration, Mana Per 5, Attack Power (on most items that previously had it), greatly simplifying gear and making more items multiple role (example any plate item with mastery is attractive to tanks, dps item or not).
