ok so what the hell is going on, my character has disappeared. some of us have lives that don’t revolve around world of warcraft 365 year in year out. I’m 40 years old, played wow on and off since it’s original launch. like many other gamers, we have addictive personality’s and go through phases of gaming and not gaming. so I’ve had a good year out from gaming. like all the other times in my life, winter comes, life changes and then I fancy going back to wow. only I can’t because all of my hard work and grinding through lock down 2 years ago seems to of dissapeared… maybe there should of a been a disclaimer at the start of launch to say your character won’t last forever, we will delete it at some point and we will WRECK the whole ecosystem that is classic some point down the line by not maintaining server populations with server mergers.
thanks blizzard idiots in charge yet again with no clue how to run this game or this business.
people come back eventually, but they don’t come back if you screw them over and delete their characters !
ALL You had to do was maintain a good server balance and populations in Classic, TBC and Wraith when wraith fades to keep the classic era going for ever! people come and go, new people come and go. but you’ve ruined it because you’re so damn stupid.

If you stopped whining long enough to listen or at least asked with a civil tongue in your head. What realm was it on? It’s probably on Wrath Mograine now.
No realm has a good balance now and most players don’t want it.

I shouldn’t have to scan forums and research to figure out why my character isn’t where I left it. it’s completely redundant on wraith, if this was their intention it should of been made clear from the start before I wasted all that time. I don’t want to play wraith or level again, I like Vanillia and that’s it.

If you didn’t log into it on Era then that is your fault
there was no forward mention or a road map of what would happen with Classic, it was sold as if it would be as it was forever.
Not having to worry about dreaded expansions and enjoy it at your own leisure indefinitely.
They’ve really messed this up, they should of looked after each Version of the game equally. they just dump each expansion to side of the road and that’s it. They’ve totally missed the point on what Vanilla is about and how it should of been inshrined permanently

There was, how much notice did you want?
It is. If you didn’t log into your character at all during TBC, into TBC or Era then it was automatically moved to Wrath.
let me make that decision when I finally return…

So your characters have been funneled into wrath since you were not around when there was some lobby system designed to pull people into tbc?
and only very few of us actually chose to stay on era.
something a lot of players have voiced regret over, wanting to still be able to play ther characters on era.
starting over? none want that.
funneling inactive players into expansions they don’t belong to without giving the player a choice is clear proof what they want for era.
as if it’s not enough already that blizz is keeping servers in the shadows letting them die completely.
era would have a lot more players were blizz not actively working to murder it.

Exactly. They’ve funneled me into an expansion i have NO INTEREST in playing. Ironically i went AWOL for several years during WOTLK expansion and never played it back then and not interested in doing it now!
They have deliberately sabotaged the longevity and playerbase of vanillia by doing this. Id of happily spent the next month over xmas playing vanilla and i imagine im not alone either!
I imagine over the next few weeks, many other returning players are going to turn up to find they have their characters deleted also.
Ironically ive been paying my subscription for the last 2 years. Regardless if im playing or not. Ive now cancelled it!
What are they hoping to achieve with classic? I really dont understand this move. It will just convince people to return to private servers…
Im so mad

Yup. In my desperation for a working ERA I found my way to that which we are not allowed to talk about.
Something I have NEVER done before. I genuinely despise the idea of this thing that we are not allowed to speak of, but desperation paved path.
Of course that didn’t last long as no way I’m building an elaborated account in such flimsy circumstances.
So I ended up taking the DF bait. First time retailed since classic launch. Oh dear what a crapshow it is.

Imagine being in the meeting where someone suggested to move all inactive players of vanilla to WOTLK.
I didnt play TBC either, the only logical thing to do was copy and paste peoples chars onto all expansions or leave it pending until they logged in. Theyve done the complete opposite and forced peoples hands and damaged the longevity of vanilla. Classic will die because of this including WOTLK.

They used monetization to channel their intent where it cost, what was it. 20 euro? to have character on both era and tbc. Whereas choosing either was free in a time period where everyone was hyped for tbc. and didn’t really think much about the consequences.
that was 20 euro per character. for many of us, if not all. we were looking at an expense of over 80 euro just to have the ability to play era with our characters.
I’m being kind with these numbers. My own number was a minimum of 120 euro. I’m posting here with my nr 6. the choice was simple to me, stay on era. and blizz was like; rot then.

I also returned and wanted to play Classic Era server, but my characters (which I have invested so much time into) are not available for other than WotLK.
Can you please open this “cloning service” for Classic Era servers again and let it be available permanently?

Thats not how backup works unfortunately. There is a reason Blizzard offers free transfers before merging servers, because if something happens with a failed backup, there is no going back. Blizzard gave ppl time but at the same time they offered the era transfers during the summer, same weird decision as releasing tbc in middle of the summer, so i guess alot of ppl missed out on that.
They should have just copied every single character and kept them locked until the player pays for it.

Yep. Blizzard is just forcing people to return to private servers. What a bag of loonies, sabotaging their own revenue.

There was 0 notice. I got 0 e-mails about this while ironically I get Blizzard store e-mails often…

There was a lot of notice, you just didn’t see it. Blizzard were wrong not to send out an email but that didn’t stop you looking in on the forums occasionally.
I think you are wrong about Blizzard forcing people to return to pirate realms or trying to kill classic. They could just shut it down if they wanted to do that.
So let me get this straight, Dottie.
If we’re away from a game, you think we have to constantly keep checking forums that MAY or MAY NOT show some threads about it on any given day.
How come no other MMOs have randomly nuked my characters?
It’s like saying that it’s your fault when your bank doesn’t send you a direct notice that they’re going to delete your savings account because the savings account company is closing their business. It’s your fault that you didn’t check the news!
Every other bigger and even smaller services / companies give out notices by e-mail. Why can’t Blizzard? ESPECIALLY since they can and DO constantly send marketing e-mails to buy their games and services.
And yeah, technically Blizzard doesn’t force people to go to private servers, so let me rephrase: Blizzard will make people want to go to private servers because it has demonstrated that it can’t be trusted with not f**ing players over.
So, s*itty excuse.

Did I say CONSTANTLY? No I didn’t, I said occasionally, like one a month.
No, it’s like setting up a direct debit and the company gets bought out and you direct debit gets moved automatically.
That is a lie, when Conan closed down some realms I never got an email, same goes for another too.
Guess what? Pirate, not private servers are breaking the law and they do close down with no notice at all.
Oh and btw you had TWO YEARS to choose where you character was going to end up, two whole years.
This is not correct, even on pirated servers there is no such thing.
I also faced the same problem when I returned to play in the classic era. I was also gone for about a year, due to big changes in my personal life. But now everything has stabilized, and I decided to play the classics, and the character in another add-on.
I have already gone through 5 stages: 1) Denial, 2) Anger, 3) Bargaining, 4) Depression, 5) Acceptance.
But the sediment remained as if not from the professional work of Blizzard.
