But that’s not how MMORPG functions for the majority of the playerbase. People aren’t asking for p5 to collect new greens but to get AQ40 loot.
I won’t bet on it.
Of course we all want AQ40 loot, no risk saying this.
But, even if I may be an extreme example by keeping TOTALLY CRAP stuff for my own amusement, some of my guildmates still /rand on underpowered gears (compared to what they currently have) because they just want them in their personal collection.
And I’m sure we will be many to enjoy the simple idea that we still have a Azuresong Mageblade in our bank at the dawn of P6, and even beyond.
I too have a raidmate who often collects weapons nobody else wants just for collection. That doesn’t mean he’d do a new raid - going through the whole effort of getting consumables/wbuffs etc. - just to get some new skins. Even more to the point, that doesn’t mean he’d find 40+ people willing to support his cosmetic lust or partake in it.
Either way, feel free to keep asking, but I’m pretty sure the large majority of ppl would rather jump onto TBC than take part in this madness^^
You don’t know that (and me neither hehe). Even at Naxxramas it might be relevant for some guilds to keep running MC or ZG just to gear late rerolls (let’s say they are fresh ungeared lvl 60) or to get formula (+4 all stats, for example) which, I guess, are still interesting at high level.
Also, I think that gears we keep only for collection are generally loots we didn’t really look for anymore, it’s kind of opportunistic. If by any chance something drops we are like “oh nice, let’s collect that, because why not ?”. I doubt it can become an obsession to the point that we ask to 40+ people to run a raid over and over only to satisfy someone’s fantasie ! (I hope so…)
And I respect that. I have only good memories from TBC, so I can’t blame players to want it.
Classic made realise that even if I enjoyed my fix of nostalgia (and I still do), I didn’t want Wow to be an endless repetition.
-
Classic Forever: no new feature after Naxxramas will bore me. I can understand that some can enjoy relics, but not me. No thanks.
-
TBC: it will be fun at start, but I already know this not what I want anymore, I like discoveries and surprises, TBC (and so on) can’t provide this to me. Still a no.
-
Retail: this version is, indeed, full of discoveries and surprises (and sometimes really beautiful). But sadly I don’t enjoy it because of countless disappointments in the gameplay, the artistic direction and even the story. Sorry but no.
This leave me two choices after Naxx:
- I can stop Wow and never come back, which is a reasonable possibility.
- I can hope and campaing for a post-Naxx Classic, which could be an opportunity for a fresh new start (or new continuity) respectful, in a way or another, of the original material/philosophy, free of all the stuff I actually dislike (leveling beyond 60, gear/item/formula becoming obsolete throught the expansions, flying mounts, etc…) and able to offer new features (new zones, new raids, new cosmetics, new sets, new trinkets, etc) which can be partially inspired (or not) by TBC, WoTLK, etc.
I would like the second option very much. ![]()
And brace yourself, because I can go deeper into the so-called “madness”:
I also think that if a decision must be taken (in my case my vote goes to Classic +), it will be released on ALL Classic servers. I’m not in favor to have Classic Forever/TBC/Classic+ servers at the same time. No no no. Just Classic + for everyone. Yep, that’s what I just said: Classic + for everyone. It’s kind of dictatorial, I admit.
Because we can’t split a community even more. We are already divided between two versions of the game (I mean Classic and Retail). The actual two sides can barely understand each others. Nope, I’m not saying players can’t enjoy both Classic and Retail, I’m sure they are many and I see no problem here. I’m saying that the community has already been splitted to the point that some Classic players usually taunt Retail players (and vice versa) for playing the other version of their favorite game. It’s the price of division.
Some can’t find a proper tank for their raid ? Some think leveling zones are quite empty at the moment ? Some complain because queueing in BG has become too long ? Just imagine the emptiness of a server if our community suddenly splits itself in several versions of the game. Imagine the actuals guilds and frienships patiently built in Classic not surviving this. Imagine everything following post-Naxx not surviving the process. All those threads for nothing, no winner, all losers. At least we might still have few pservers where to go. Back to the square. ![]()
Ok, now I think some people will crucify me after this: TBC and the following expansions already had their chance on both official and private servers. Then I see no reason to bring them back again (creatively speaking of course).
And yes, Classic had it’s chance too. But why is it different ?
-
Classic is already here, unless we have a time machine there is nothing we can do about it.
-
If there will be a new continuity, it obviously has to start somewhere. And Classic is the perfect start for it (for a perfectible game…), because I see no reason to develop something fresh and new from an expansion. Unless they do it from TBC or WoTLK. But this doesn’t fix the “flying mounts” issue many of us aren’t ready to experience again (mostly in Kalimdor/Eastern Kingdoms which aren’t been initially designed for this).
That being said, our community is actually right to fear what Blizzard could do of an hypotetical Classic +. Actually, for me the only weak point of Classic + is ironically Blizzard itself and what it can do with it. Because no one here wants a Retail-flavoured game. I think it’s one of the main reason that many players don’t want to hear anything about Classic +. This is actually why, despite all the hate I’ve probably created around this heretical post, I understand and respect why most us just want to reassure ourselves through features we already know.
And just to finish: let say the futur is bright and for some reasons Blizzard has done an amazing job with Classic +, the whole Classic community is happy, people are dancing in the streets and now they even want Retail to be like Classic +. Would you want to play it ?
Yeah but that’s kinda my whole point. People may be inclined to grab something for a cosmetic reward if there’s a chance, but getting a guild focused on progressing through a tier worth of content, just for cosmetic awards, is kind of insane.
As for the rest of your rant, it’s pointless. TBC is going to come, whether you like it or not. As for the community fracturing… TBC and WotLK can work just fine with a much smaller community than Classic does:
- Raids are smaller
- There’s no ultra-rare recipes or components that are essential or BiS for PvE/PvP that would necessitate a vast population (like, say, Lionheart Helm or Greater Arcane Elixir in Vanilla)
- There’re much better catch-up mechanisms that allow a healthier turnover in the population.
So yeah, TBC and WotLK will thrive regardless of the community split. As for Classic… that’s a problem with Classic players. If Classic can’t muster the popularity to compete with TBC and WotLK, then it’ll die as it deserves. Denying people TBC and WotLK in the hope they’ll play your bastardized version of Classic+ is just the pinnacle of delusion.
But hey, keep dreaming on ![]()
Go through every talent tree one-by-one and think: “How could we make this more rewarding to play?” Remember - Every class and specialization is someone’s favorite and they are excited to play that.
personally i don’t want current blizzard to touch my talent tree with a 40 foot pole. however if they insisted, i’d say; just give my stormstrike a cooldown that isn’t freaking 20+ seconds and i’ll be fine…
Can you imagine a company that brought us the gem that was Wasrcraft 3 Refunded to try it’s hand at reworking and enhancing another of the legendary early 2000s Blizzard games, Vanilla WoW?

Two words which summarizes why Classic+ is a meme, and Fake News.
Activision. Blizzard.
You are a little naive, my starry-eyed child.
