I hope they break paladin/mage boosting in TBC

The reason I hope for this is because after they introduce the paid lvl 58 boost (which I hate but doubt it’s going anywhere), paladin/mage gold boosters will become their competition. Fixing boosting in Classic was a “waste of effort”, but fixing it in TBC would mean more paid boost buyers which Actiblizz likes.

So, paradoxically, we might end up with a healthier leveling scene in TBC.

I could not agree more, in the original wow classic and tbc, pathing abuse was very limited but bannable, which actually gives life to lvling zones.

You can only have 1 paid boost per account and aoe gets nerfed in tbc anyway, I can’t remember exactly how but it’s something along the lines of you can only damage ‘x’ amount of mobs at once. So there probably will still be some boosting but nowhere near as effectively

No guarantee that they stick to this limit, and even if they do - many will buy more accounts. I already have like 10 guildies with multiple accounts for portals/summons/MCs.

Blizzard still slows everyone (although does close to zero damage). Flamestrike and Consecration still hit everyone. I expect boosting to be as rampant as it is now - unless Blizz intervene further.

Limiting pathing abuse would be one step. Another step is to simply lower XP for mobs a highlvl kills for you. Not like it makes any sense to award XP for AFKing in the first place :smiley:

Why not just make it so that if a player five or more levels above you kills a mob you get zero experience?

As far as I can see, that’s the whole boosting problems solved forever.

Paladin farming/boosting in the new content needs some gear, likely also the Sporregar shield and stuff so it will need time. As for mages - the AoE cap prevents full Mara pulls but you still can use AoE on small packs. Not for mass boosting but more typical farming.

And IMHO Paladin reflect damage is kind of fun and less prone to exploits like pathing memes (like mages avoid being hit while palas must be hit).

If they add AoE cap to consecrate then it’s some sort of a nerf but you still can just stand, heal and use damage reflect items and spells. And if they do that they should also limit other boosting or over-farming options like big pick pocket farms.

So the question is how much retail “no fun allowed” you want to have here?

The damage from Blizzard or other AoE spells is not some random change. Each AoE spell has a damage cap, say 1000 per tick. If you have 5 targets and hit everyone for 200 then you are nicely on the cap. If you add one more target then and only then the damage per mob is reduced to fit that 1000 damage per tick limit. This applies to all AoE spells - Blizzard, Flamestrike, but does not apply to Consecrate.

Blizzard farming in TBC is still a thing, but usually of smaller packs. YouTube has old TBC Mark of KJ farm spots where mages, palas and others showcase what they can do.

That’s how it was back in vanilla. There was no point in boosting since the one being boosted got next to no exp at all. People asked boosts for completing quests in dungeons or getting loot from bosses but that was it.

Wait, how is it a healthier levelling scene if people skip levelling altogether and pay to Blizzard to get boosted? Wouldn’t the scene be rather empty :thinking:

Just saying, even if you don’t change the original game, the original pathing abuse bans solve most of the boosting. But ye, xp and aoe limit would utterly destroy it.

Since it’s one per account and potentially expensive, some won’t use it. They’d buy a boost for gold, but maybe Blizz do something about it, to encourage people to spend. Some of those who still don’t spend could level normally.
