I just did The Deadmines

and it was the most fun I’ve had in WoW in years.

8am, wasn’t in the mood for solo questing (zones a bit quiet in the morning). So I got a group for Deadmines, all of us 20-22 so should be an easy run.

I got a neat BoE green drop from one of the trash mobs. We were having a bit of banter and clearing smoothly.

Sneed then dropped his Rare axe! Awesome! Very happy to have a great drop for me. As the only other melee was a warrior who wasn’t getting any loot for himself, this is an upgrade for me!
But then I didn’t win it…? Oh, my bad – I had forgotten, that every weapon is a hunter weapon. We all had a good moan at him for stealing my loot. The hunter claimed he “clicked the wrong button” - fair enough, so I politely booted him from the instance.

Easy to continue with 4 people as we were a good group. Found a Rogue in general chat so they caught up to us while we were clearing. The rest of the run went smoothly, and we had a good laugh. I looted Vancleef’s head, which was all I needed. Mr Smite, sadly, did not give me his hammer.

Then we decided to do the ghouls quest inside the non-instanced Deadmines. 4 of us were on the quest, but the healer said they already done it so they left. Who needs a healer for a few trash kills outside the entrance?

It was all going well and due to our high DPS we could take them down with ease. But the drop rate wasn’t great and there was competition for the kills, so the warrior decided it wasn’t worth the time, and took off.
We were now having to be more careful. And next thing we know we’re dead. So run back and kill a few more, wipe again, rinse and repeat. We decided that the tank (paladin) should heal, so me and the rogue were slowly getting them down one by one.
Unfortunately, on our 4th wipe, by the time we got back, every single ghoul had respawned and the cave was packed. If we rez, we instantly die. But I found a little corner where we could safely rez, at the back of the cave. Only two more cards needed… we were so close. Victory was within our grasp. We slowly pulled a couple - and then three, and then 4 more. It was a slaughterfest.
But before dying, we did loot the final card, so we rezzed and hearthed the smeg out of there to our separate safehouses, and safely disbanded.

Over the 2 hour dungeon run there was laughs and we got to know each other. We had easy kills and hard ones. Good team players and bad ones. Over the ghoul wiping there was a real sense of camaradarie and I felt proud of what we had achieved, even though in the grand scheme of things, it’s just one quest and one dungeon. I had a beaming grin across my face when I got back to the inn, and then I went and made some breakfast.
This is how WoW should be. Blizzard designed a brilliant game.

tl;dr - I thought I did, and I do. This game is awesome.

Have a nice sunday.

Hey nice to here that you had such a pleasant time in WoW Classic. I did not get to play it yet, but I am eagerly waiting for my own journey.

Just a quick question though concerning that hunter. Didn’t Blizz add loot trading so that they would not have to deal with every mistake themselves via ticket? Or is that old information or maybe even information that I misread? As far as I understood it, he could have traded you the axe.

I don’t believe that’s in classic, no.

Raids only, not dungeons.

Which seems like a good compromise imo, other than having it on FFA as a leader since I don’t believe clicking on items with ML on gives you the option to select “who gets it” in Vanilla (maybe I’m wrong).

Reading through your post, I can really tell how much fun you were having. It’s like I can see the child behind the man behind the keyboard (I don’t mean this in a negative sense, I’m saying that you managed to get in touch with your inner child, which is why you are having so much fun, which is great!).

I’ve been having fun myself! Playing with some RL friends! Just imagine that. Then we got to kill a few Hordies and /yell stuff in chat!

Anyway, good luck getting the hammer from Mr. Smite, that thing is a freaking once in a blue moon occurrence.

Stockade will also be fun, much more fun than Deadmines, just make sure you have at least one person applying any kind of slow to the mob you are focusing, or else you’ll be coming back to these forums with another slaughter story

I know this Retail vs Classic thing is getting old and cringe, but seriously, I agree. Stuff like this isn’t memorable on Retail, but on Classic it makes your day. I love it so much, and I can’t see myself going back to retail any time soon.

I’ve had more stories to tell on Classic in the past week than I have on Retail since Wotlk. Sad, but true. Loving every moment, and people can tell me it’s nostalgia all they want - I didn’t even play Vanilla lol.

Thanks. Yeah it’s great fun.

I did another DM run today and got the hammer so I’m happy. Smashing 300 damage crits at level 22, feels powerful.
