I just got squelched/silenced, are you kidding me?

I was joking around with a bunch of people in a private channel. Suddenly I’m disconnected and get this message upon logging in:

“Your chat and mail privileges have been suspended pending Game Master review.”

I have no clue how long this will last. The most enraging thing is that a PLAYER did this, not a GM. GJ Blizz putting GM powers in the hands of salty players. Surely it won’t be abused.

It will be.

From what I understand it only takes 5 players to auto-squelch someone. Meaning there may have been 1000 players in the channel, all it takes is 5 of them to have complete power over the other 995.

Undead Rogue … I believe you but I’m also not shocked it’s an undead rogue this happened to.

You are an Undead rogue, that’s reason enough.

You mean, you were harassing other players to the point they took action against you. Not only one, but 5 of them. Good job, you succeeded in harassing them.

Toxic behavior is toxic behavior, and people don’t report if they don’t feel harasses / threatened / intimidated, so you must have done something that was not nice. If you don’t know what it is, tough luck.

You must be new to the internet. I consider it toxic that all it takes is 5 players to shut down the rest of the server, and Blizzard does nothing against false reports. Being auto-silenced by other players was definitely not part of the Vanilla experience.

Please elaborate on what the joke was.

I’m not new to the internet, but yes, I guess I’m naive. You did not do anything wrong, and those 5 were mean to you for no reason, so you come crying to the forums.

Wake up dude. You are in the wrong here. It’s bad that it takes 5 good guys to take down one bad guy. 5 guys cannot shut down a server, but 5 guys can shut down all the arseholses on a server.

The point is not whether you personally feel offended by what someone said, the point is that all it takes is five other players to effectively ban me from chat without GM review. If 995 people enjoyed my joke, then the fact that 5 of them can shut down convo for the rest is griefing.

So? What was the joke?

Reading the TS’s replies, I dare to bet a kidney and a lung that he wasn’t just “joking” but in reality was being toxic and got reported by people who do want Classic’s commnuity to be better.

And if so, then I hope the GM will not just quelch him, but also give him some time off in the naughtycorner. The lack of a good working community is afterall the main reason Blizzard focussed on Classic’s “community” as its selling point.

Does it matter?

Point is that 5 man mob can block anyone.

Even if it is for competition for mining nodes, you can get a threat to leave the farming area or face chat/mail ban.

Frakking “Cosa Nostra”

If some players are abusing their report ability, they won’t be able to do it for long or could even be banned themselves. This system is not as simple as you’re trying to portrait it.

This threat would get them banned very quickly. This is not private server.

They can abuse it once, maybe twice, then ban, would love to know the reason op got silenced, but i dont think it was innocent joke

There’s not a single piece of evidence that anyone has ever been banned for false reports in retail. Squelching rivals IS coming to classic. Just wait until rank 13s start silencing each other.

simple mute/ignore system would be better that auto ban.

Any banning action MUST be reviewed by actual person in the role of GM, AI fail in this regard everywhere. Just look at Youtube flagging.

Of couse it matters. And abuse if the squelch function is likely to be sanctioned harshly.

Just wondering if it is a coincidence that more than half of OT’s name is part of Adolf.

My real name is Dolf, and Blizzard does nothing against false reports because they don’t even investigate most of them. In retail there are cases of people selling things for “too low” in trade and competitors squelch them for months.
