If you start adding patchwerks to the simulation: the dps you reach is insane; we’re talking about something like TRIPLE the dps compared to other specs and no talent choices can save it; spec is objectively op in that scenario.
They can ban you all you want but the truth remains; they didn’t run the sim and they got angry they didn’t know for months in an expansion; I bet the hard core people run the sim who have a frost mage in all world records.
Depends on the sim. 5 targets, nothing beats windwalker, 20 targets destro is insane. 30sec pulls fire and ele are better. If a pull is spread out larger than a blizzard then boomie and aff are better. If the tank is kiting and the mobs leave your blizzard then rogues and dhs will beat you easily.
Patchwork sustained aoe is rarely a reality.
I think I had put 20 patchwerks, and it destroyed the other 2 specs of mage (I didn’t compare it with other classes at all).
They mage discord got so mad; they started accusing me that the sim was not perfect because I didn’t use the perfect talents for it; lol good luck raising arcane’s aoe to that extreme level with just talents.
It’s not a bad metric for some extremely high keys, because they might be pulling at least 6-8 targets almost non-stop for the entire instance.
It’s probably not a coincidence the exact same specs appear in all world records.

Do you have any on topic arguments related on mages or just an expression of hate; did your “experts” got around to running a simulation on frost mage with a lot of patchwerks or do they still whine that the talents weren’t fully optimal when good luck having talents overcoming an advantage of at least 3X over other specs in sustained aoe of that nature; be careful who you unquestionably accept as your authorities on a pedestal.

I told them the results showed them broken when you start adding a lot of patchwerks in the sim (like 20) (we’re talking about something like at least X3 dps compared to other specs or whatever it was), and they started personally attacking me as a “reckless tester” because I supposedly didn’t use the perfect combination of talents on arcane and fire to do the test.
Good luck making arcane have triple the dps compared to other specs with just talents geniouses.
the mage discord likes to get technical about details, i doubt they denied your claim that frost aoe starts snowballing hard with big target counts though
Lol this is funny. All you gotta do is read tooltips and you can tell frost scales up againsts targets better than the other specs. Fire is near enough linear, Arcane has soft target caps I think while frosts cdr on orb and IV(+RoP) will scale up to silly levels. At 20 targets its probably perminent RoP without the casts.
It’s not really a balance problem because you can’t do sustained aoe on 20 targets. Either they die fast or you do. Then the burst of Arcane and Fire even things out somewhat.
I can see why they banned you if you were banging on about this for ages.

While it may be nice from a theoretical pov, whats the point of arguing about this? “Hey guys, frost is OP in this hypothetical situation that will never happen!”

Nah it’s not that easy to theorycraft just by tooltips. There are various spells that have similar caps anyway (e.g. arcane’s orb has technically an unlimited cap).
I suspect the main reason is only a little detail with blizzard ; it resets the orb; given enough spam of blizzard and targets: the reset is way too fast.
