I miss Torghast - Delves are far from as good

Rather than developing Delves I wish they’d put some more effort into the Followers for being able to solo dungeons. Since M+ came along dungeons are all small / short.
There is scope for improving the markers, the AI reactions and the Follower system in general.
We could have recruitment, training, gearing, specing followers (similar to how we level Brann).

Then we could have had 12 dungeons instead of 8 and add in 2 more each patch. Instead of using the resources to develop Delves, which are basically a follower dungeon but with Brann instead of the other AIs.

I am enjoying delves way more than torghast. Not that i am or have spammed any of those, but if i have to choose between a couple torghast runs or delve runs, i definitely choose delves.

I don’t think there is anything wrong in expressing your discontent for a particular game mode that you don’t enjoy, lots of players do this. And as you said from the get go…

So to answer what I see as the main question, I have to say yes and no. I enjoyed the activity in the beginning, it was new content and fun to do, it was also a different way to progress without M+ or raiding etc, something I could solo or play with a couple of friends. Lately I don’t enjoy it so much, like most everything in game it becomes a chore to have to obtain the keys and keep doing the same delves (and so many if you want to open all vault slots). We could say they also give you ‘special powers’ in the puzzles and chests you can find.

So yeah I hope they expand on this mode in future updates, but for me not like Torghast. I would like to see other followers added besides Bran, as a healer he is great, but his DPS is lacking and I can do that part myself. Maybe also give us an option for a full on Tank or DPS. I would like to see randomly spawning ‘special delves’ that would award something on completion, it doesn’t have to be gear it could be a title/pet/mount/special T-mog etc.

Basically I like the concept of delves and it’s what brought me back to the game, so I hope they do keep working on this.

But if I may ask a question, what system in WoW (or any other MMO come to think of it) is not designed to keep you, the player, on a treadmill? All modes become boring after a while, many M+ players or raiders will eventually get fed up of the current roster of dungeons/finish a raid and leave the game, to return with new content.

I can understand your reasoning. If you think Delves are fun and you like the way it’s designed to be a part of outdoor activities, that’s awesome then. I am interested to hear why you like Delves and its design more than Torghast if you’d like to expand on that.

I understand that not everyone share my opinion, but it’s interesting to see where other players stand in this.

Horrific Visions and Thorgast were better than Delves.
Delves are better than Island Expeditions, but talk about setting the bar low…
I never got the hype surrounding Delves, people saying it’s the best thing since sliced bread. I just don’t see it. It’s mid.
Hope Blizzard finds a way to improve the concept in a future patch.

I agree. If I would bring something similar to Torghast back, I would make sure that:

  • The theme is varied, more themes added every season/expansion
  • Abilities change, new abilities every season, some old ones are removed and might be introduced again later.
  • Some type of reward every week, but catch up mechanics for those that can’t/don’t want to play every week. A reward that always is benificial to your character.
  • If Blizzard want you to have the option to have a follower like Brann, also have an option for being completely solo, but with a buff to your character.

What i didnt liked with torghast was ofcourse first of all that it was forced and it was no real endgame cause you got no loot bit these are two points are not that important cause they have nothing to so with how it feeled playing torghast.

My first real point would be the power. I know most people really liked them cause it was fun to morph into some op monster and ofcourse that is fun.
But because these powers where so strong i never felt like it was my character and his growth that was clearing it but rather the super mario power ups i gathered.
And sometimes i even had runs that felt like a slog just cause i dis not get cool power ups.
I hope you know what i mean, in the delvs I clear them its me and my power.

The next point would be that i didn’t liked the whole theme of torghast. Not only the visuals but as a concept.
There was that tower where i encounter a bunch of enemies that are just cramed in here if it makes sense or not. I like it that the delves feel like a part of the world and not a place specifically made to run at mobs.

And this leada me to my last point delvs make me feel like an adventurer again.
Sure i am the slayer of evil gods and cosmic entities should tremble when they see me but i am done with being the champion and i realy dig that adventurer vibe i get from the delves and i dont think i could get that from a torghast like tower.

But i tell you i would not be against a torghast 2.0 with crazy powers and that rougelike feel, i would probably even dip my toes in it but not if its instead of my delves. I would love for it to be another solo branch

Torghast could have been great if:

  1. had visual variety of the floors. (snowy mountain, desert, tropical jungle, Argus fel, etc.)
  2. was one of and not exclusive source of the currency for the crafting of legendary items. (aka optional)
  3. was loaded with the cosmetics.

I just want some new powers… I’m so tired of the double jumping mushroom.

You keep missing the OP’s point again and again.

But because delves are optional, does it mean they cannot be more fun?? Torghast was way more fun. I liked the rogue style runs where my char kept getting powerups and mobs got stronger. I liked the 18 level twisting corridors and did them on multiples chars/specs even after getting the mount reward.

I want delves to be as fun as (or more fun than) Torghast. I don’t want to raid. If delves provide a more fun alternative to M+, I would also never touch M+. I played this game for 20 years but all my friends stopped playing, and pugs are becoming worse. Torghast was more balanced than delves, specially for healer specs (delves as healer are horrible).

So I want solo content, and I don’t want solo content that M+ players and raiders would feel obliged to do otherwise it would end up being hated and removed like Torghast.

I am not, you’re comparing apples to oranges and that is the problem, if the statement was “Delves are bad content because i tried them and X,Y,Z” then fine, but it was not criticized in a vacuum, it was for better or worse actively compared to Torghast, which brings with it a whole host of now seemingly unwanted comparisons that could’ve been avoided entirely if Torghast was never brought up, but it was.

“What does it being optional have anything to do with it?”, well since again, TORGHAST was used as the comparison, the major point people will bring up again and again in this comparison is that no one had a choice whether they wanted to do Torghast, fun, or not, that is the primary problem and why it is a dumb comparison, because for delves, the people who like that content are free to delve to their hearts content, those that don’t like them can leave them alone forever, don’t like M+ because it’s too toxic? Maybe raiding is more up your alley, etc etc

I don’t have an issue with disliking delves on their own merit, but don’t be surprised or try to scold people for bringing up the very very relevant point that Torghast was not something you could opt out of if you didn’t like it when the comparison was actively chosen.

TORGHAST was used in the comparison because TORGHAST was more fun (at least in some players’ opinion). Not the currency, the dungeon itself, the powerups, the mechanics, etc.

The OP said he misses Torghast. He didn’t say he misses the weekly grind.

We are not asking for bringing the legendary currency that made Torghast mandatory.

There are other powers than the mushroom?!

I didn’t like torghast, nothing about torghast prevented me from quitting the game. I highly enjoy delves, to the point where I do more than 8 of them every week (on the same character).
So yes, if you don’t enjoy them, don’t do them

I do agree though that Brann and his inability to not be in the way is annoying

I would definitely prefer delves. I would do 10 delves at level 70-80 before I would even go to the entrance of torghast at level 60 (or even 80). I did not have fun in torghast, I went back in DF for the achivements and hated every second nearly as much as I did during SL, and I definitely hope they won’t bring anything from torghast into delves

Torgast layer 16 or whatever it was called was a good piece of content i really enjoyed.
I really liked powers in torghast even tho mandatory stuff was cringe as always by blizzard
but when you look at it just from a perspective of solo content for fun it was actually fun.

I remember when it first launched and i spend all night doing those 1-8 layers on my undergeared paladin for mount
I still remember it cause it was a solo progression without gear just you vs everything

I also enjoyed 5 mask visions in BFA where i did get FoS for runing 5 masks solo

Delves had nothing from those 2 and it’s really shame

I hope they will iterate on delves and take good things from visions and torghast and implement them into S2 delves

Only thing right now from a solo player perspective is zek’vir ?? diff where you actually need to play to beat him it’s not free
But i would apply that to every 11 delves to beat it and put some FoS achiev for completing all of them

You have a more enjoyable experience in Torghast than in Delves, but unfortunately, the inconsequential rewards ruin the enjoyment and leave you feeling disappointed.

Delves have a better system around them, but the actual content was better in Torghast. And Horrific Visions as even better, and that one had a better progression system too (and it gave you pretty good gear without being mandatory).

a better question would be: why im doin a NEW thread about delves and torghast? the old ones were max 2 days ago-

I haven’t been in these forums for years, I’m sorry
