This has been confirmed btw by people entering the PvP halls.
Why is this stupid to put in during Phase 2?
Because the PvP gear was updated during the RELEASE of Naxxrammas (phase 6) in order to match the power level of Naxx gear so that PvPers wouldn’t get destroyed by Naxx raiders.
There is no reason for this gear to exist BEFORE the release of Naxxrammas! This is an oversight that will cause rankers to be even more aggressive in their griefing now that it’s confirmed and will turn the few people able to reach R14 into unstoppable killing machines in PvP AND PvE!
This gear is BiS until Naxx and invalidates the gear progression from Phase 3/4/5. Please reconsider Blizzard.
I understand how the PvP system works, I understand that less than 1% of all players will have access to this gear. This does NOT mean that the gear should exist.
The purpose of classic is to recreate vanilla. This was NOT part of the vanilla experience and has huge implications for the FEW people who reach R14.
The whole purpose of the phases was to introduce gear progression from MC to Naxx. This completely goes against that logic since the R14 PvP gear is BiS until NAXX for raiders and PvPers alike.
There’s so much nuance around how that this sentence has lost all meaning.
No, the whole purpose is to spread out things to do over time, allowing people to catch up and not get burnout. This includes Silithus and EPL as PvP areas, T0.5 questlines, and so on. There are hundreds of ways of doing it with different trade-offs.
You want to talk about Vanilla? The honor system and rewards were implemented in patch 1.4, months before BWL and almost one year before Naxxramas. Your argument that PvP epics go against “recreating Vanilla” because they render raiding gear useless just has no basis.
You can of course believe that’s still a bad idea and share that opinion, but you can’t claim there’s a historical reason supporting it because there’s none.
A direct quote: At BlizzCon 2018, we proposed a plan to give Classic four content phases. These were planned to be centered primarily on raid power progression.
The updated R14 gear existing in phase 2 completely invalidates this progression and should be fixed accordingly. Please try again.
I agree but at the same time it is really difficult to call this a truly serious problem considering how absolutely minuscule the R14 crowd will be. This particular change won’t have any real impact on the game as a whole.
-1% critical strike = ~9 Strength or 20 AP for a warrior
The stamina is irrelevant for PvE, another reason PvP gear is always sub par compared to equally itemized gear in PvE.
On top of this, at most 3-4 players a week can get a shot at Rank 14 on the most crowded of realms.
There is no upper limit on Claymore of Unholy Might, with a +/-20% drop chance while Might of Menethil will be rarer even with it’s 35% drop chance.
I’m glad you find it funny, but again, that doesn’t mean anything unless you try to read between lines something that isn’t even there. Of course the phases are related to raid progression, because that’s what they’re gating. There isn’t much else to do, especially with (for the most part) frozen itemization.
But let’s try to be productive. What do you propose? When would you release Naxxramas and how much sooner would you release PvP gear in advance? Bear in mind “first generation” rare PvP rewards (they do get updated later on, but midly) are comparable to or worse than many items obtained through crafting or dungeons, and notoriously inferior to epics from Molten Core.
For how long do you intend to keep PvP players interested to push for PvP rank without meaningful PvP ranks? Or is your view of Vanilla pure PvE?
PS: Feral druids using a mace from Gnomeregan or a level 43 BoE even after Naxxramas would like to have a word with you about rendering raid gear obsolete.
I can’t comment much about other classes, but as a rogue I can tell you T2 head (from Onyxia! what a challenge!) is better DPS than Field Marshal (and T1 is comparable); T2 legs are available and also better, T1 gloves or Aged Core are better, T1 chest is better… If you want better DPS you do MC, not R12+, except for the weapons, which aren’t meant for anybody except something like the 0.1% of the PvP population.
In fact the T1 set has excellent PvP bonuses, so PvP players might as well be complaining about how they must raid to have competitive gear… but they already know.
I agree, but we already have 1.12 itemization on everything else.
If they only added the lvl58 pvp gear the items would be undesirable. Tier 1 and 2 would not only be better, but also far more accessible.
BiS for whom? As a mage, the epic set is worse for PvE than MC BiS gear (not T1, mind you), and the weapon roughly compares with Staff of the Shadow Flame. Sure, it might be better for some classes, but saying it’s BiS until Naxx for all or even most classes is laughable.
