I’m sorry but this doesn’t make any sense to me… Why TF do you need more than 50 characters? Do you just want more slots so that you create new characters to look at them from the character login screen? Can you guys really not see how stupid it is that you want more character slots when you don’t even intend to play on them?
I’m sorry but this doesn’t make any sense to me… why TF do you need more than 1 ground mount and 1 flying mount? Do you just want more mounts so that you can look at them from the mount tab? Can you guys really not see how stupid it is that you want more than 1 mount when you don’t even intend to use them?
that is if you dont intend to play them and then again it still there choice
if you readed my post above you see my reason and why im already at the character max and yes i do play them all ( in not hard for me to play them all in a month time and i enjoy them all ) and i find it pretty insulting you saying that its stupid rather then saying you find it stupid but then again why do you care? your not forced to do it right? so why not allow other people to be happy? if this makes them happy?
mount farming.
but there is also a decision that needs to be made by blizz as to wether or not its actually a neccesary change, is there really a reason for someone to have more than 50 characters
@Willtron: Different people like different things and especially some of us who have been around a long time, characters can crop up. As of today, I think I have total of 69 retail characters spread over three different WoW accounts (one is for US side experiments and data gathering) and well in excess of 50 classic characters on two of those. Some of those I can not access, because I am currently only paying for my main account.
@Zulgunji: I am sure my esteemed colleague Punyelf did not mean anything bad with her remarks. She was just expressing her opinions and views. As noted, especially nowadays MVP title means very little in addition to the green text and generally helpful attitude. I should perhaps stress that we, too, occasionally have less stellar days and for many, perhaps even most of us, English is not our native language. Misunderstandings can therefore happen and there have been a few people who are… hmmm… shall we say… fond of trolling us?
@All: 50 characters may sound like a lot, but as this topic has come up in the past… There are people who have already reached a state, where they are considering a second BATTLE.NET account, because their eight WoW accounts are all rather overcrowded… in other words, they possess somewhere around 400 characters by now (just considering retail).
As one of the few rather extreme alt-o-holics who post on the forum, I will end this post with following (rather lengthy) notes. I have characters on four different support language realms and significant number of my retail characters are well in excess of nine or ten years old, so I am rather attached to many of them. Quite a few of them have very specific memories attached to them, some of people who are no longer among us… For ME, it is therefore understandable that I am rather reluctant to erase any of those. I have deleted probably not hundreds, but thousands of low (1-4) level characters and dozens of level 55 to 58 death knights.
As Zulgunji and many others have noted in the past threads, people are generally not asking to have a massive space expansion for free, but rather a solution that does not forcibly require a second account, second subscrition and acquiring expansions for multiple accounts. And this has become more of an issue with the addition of numerous allied races. Depending on how Blizzard exactly executes Shadowlands, it is even possible that the number of “affected” people increases suddenly as there are more options for possible combinations.
Some people have mentioned that there might be some reason for the limit of 50 not being (easily) alterable. I will be honest, I do not know whether this is true or not. Regardless of the answer (as long as the answer is not an official blue statement) there is no harm in discussing the topic in a civil manner.
Only very few people have huge numbers of characters and those who do not, should not be adversely affected even if there were alterations, especially as many of the few have expressed their willingness to pay a one time flat fee for some more characters slots. I think it worth pointing out that there are numerous games with slightly different payment models where purchase of character slots is part of the established system. Guild Wars 2, which I also play at times, if I still recall correcly only has FOUR slots to begin with… and they have five races and currenly nine different classes… and also, again, if memory serves me right, the maximum number per account is 69 characters. If my recollections are in error, someone with more accurate data is welcome to correct those numbers concerning GW2.
This is already a wall, so taking a “writing break”. salutes all
I believe it’s base of 5 slots if owning vanilla + 1 slot per expansion purchased (allthough might not be automatic with POF) so max 7 slots free. Not sure about total max limit, haven’t reached it yet. I got moderate 20 something character slots there at the moment. Also might add that gems (shop currency for in game shop) can be gained also via gameplay so no actual money is necessarily required for extra slots when actively playing the game.
But thank you for your insightfull post about why more character slots are needed. I couldn’t have said it better myself.
Yes please, I have like 25 abandoned characters from the past but I’m not going to delete them, they’re full of memories and it would feel like deleting time.
I’m at the character limit just from wanting to play a new set of both Ally and Horde characters, don’t even have every class on both sides.
Same, I’ve returned n here and on kilrogg have like 7 characters still with the Numbered names and 2 characters left on lvl 70 which I won’t play for some personal reasons, but I’d never delete them <3
You are all not considering the fact that some people change the realm in which they play by creating new characters and not by migrating.
Im more of a casual player now, but recently I hit the 35 character mark.
I have around 15 horde and 10 alliance characters in my first server, but now that I moved, (the server is dead for the horde, and my main is horde) I created another 10 characters on a new horde server.
Thats 35 characters already in just 2 servers and I dont even play that much.
I havent even counted all the characters I have in English servers. (I play in Spanish ones and during a period I felt like playing in a really big server)
I could have easily hit the 50 characters mark if I hadnt deleted most of my low level (1-60) ones.
It doesnt matter if there re 48, 30 or 60 combinations, people changing of server because of reasons is a thing that happens all the time and should be taken in account.
Increasing the cap is meaningless for everyone with less than 50 charac, so i dont know why there are this many people against it.
Ps. I have this many charac per server because I create characs focused on just one spec.
I have 2 paladins, one protecc and the other retri and so on.
I also love levelling and “starting from zero” again, and no, buying a second account is not a real option.
Literally several previous posts right before yours bring up that exact point. “You’re all not” hardly applies here
Im sorry so, I read like the first 60 posts and I saw no one talking about that =)
No, no, don’t worry, I run 2 accounts and I’m not really upset if they increase the cap! So that I wouldn’t have to run a 3rd ofc! Cause atm I’m approaching 100 chars and I really really cannot afford a 3rd, would decrease my gold making too much if I pay with gold and I’m not rich IRL to pay for 3 accs + expansions with money, so even just 60 slots per acc would be very handy for me!
Ohh, a spanish player coming here on the english forum, interesting, sanguino must be the biggest realm that is part of the realm connection marked as full in spain!
I probably forgot to say on my previous post that the amount of realms are a big reason for me to level this “many” (there’s people who have a lot more) characters, up until 2013 there were 250 realms or so in europe, after those connections ended in 2014 there were 123 realms left of which 107 non-russian, now they connected 2 more so 121 and 105, it’s not possible to occupy all realms with 2 accs atm and that’s my goal ofc!
and for those who fear that even with the paid char slots that people will make chars out of control they can even do with what they did with azarite reforging.
just increase the price for each new 10 char slot
so first 10 extra are like 10 euro next 10 20euro next 10 40 euro etc
that way we who want more char slot get our wish and those who fear it otherwise going out of control have nothing to fear as there will be a soft cap and otherwise a good income for blizzard
Yes, as someone who would like more chars I would be ok with an ever increasing price, would try to use that service responsibly ofc.
Another idea I’d be ok with is: the price for an additional game is actually very cheap, I obviously don’t buy an expansion for an alt account when it’s max price (around 60 euro), I wait till it’s low, 20 euro or some other discount, what gets really expensive is the sub.
So another idea would be if it’d be possible to have a package sub price for multiple accounts, you know in a shop there’s sometimes offers where you buy 3 of this item but you only pay 2? Something like it.
If there were something like that I’d just get a 3rd acc ofc.
Do you have a source on this at all on this please as i know a fair few players who have 1 of each spec so that’s 36 for a start as it makes it easier to gear up and farm .
Trelw posted somewhere some statistics about population, he used 3.5 as upper limit of average number of characters per account. Not sure how he got that, but I’m inclined to believe him.
People only have 3.5 chars ? i find that so hard to see as fact especially with so many races now but ok if you say so
No, that’s the average. Like total number of characters divided by total number of accounts. Obviously people posting on the forums would have probably 20+ characters, but that’s compensated by average Joes who only play 1 class.
