I Wanna AFK

What i want is simple. WoW is my main game and i live in Azeroth. Game kicks you to character screen after 30 minutes of AFK. I want to be able to AFK without getting kicked. I will logout when i want to.

Pretty sure this is a resource management issue, as logged in players use server resources, even if idle. So, if they allow unlimited AFK players they waste processing power that could be used for active players.

are you aware that this is an mmorpg game?

It’ll be a security thing as well as a server resource management thing. No on-line system allows you to stay logged on indefinitely without interaction.

Exactly, A Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game.

People being AFK while logged in take up ressources that make the game/servers stable which others who play the game need.

While you AFK you dont interact with anyone, you dont do anything, so you are not actively roleplaying either.

To be honest, I am curious about this.

In what setting are you logged into a game and standing still for that long without doing anything on a regular basis?

If you just want to AFK and not get booted, you have to migrate to Etheirys (The name of the FF14 Planet)

Not the OP, but I wanted to chime in since I do this regularly myself. I love logging into one of my favorite spots in the game and just leaving it running on a spare monitor - soaking in the music, sounds, and atmosphere of my favorite game while I work, for example. It’s hard to explain why, but it brings me a sense of peace. Many players consider this game a kind of “home”, so when the OP says “I live in Azeroth” they’re probably not exaggerating. It’s an emotional connection that some people might not understand, but others definitely relate to.

Personally, I love the idea of not being kicked out of the game for inactivity, though I completely get the argument about server resources. But really, if I’m just moving my character a few steps every 20 minutes to avoid the timeout, I’m still using those resources anyway, aren’t I? I don’t know much about server technology, but would idle players who are just standing or sitting around really use up that many resources?

A 5 min looped video on You Tube would do the same thing.

Sort of related: I regularly put on a walking video of some interesting place. No commentary, just walking and hearing the sounds of that place. It’s nice.

I smell … first world problems!

You AFK for a certain time, you get logged out. It’s normal, it’s been like this for 20 years. Deal with it & move on!

If you get logged out… omg it takes no more than 10 to 15 seconds to click play and you’re back on your character.

People who complain, like the OP on this thread, clearly have no responsibilities in their life.

or Black Desert Online, many other mmos allows this, WoW cannot lol

Is it really much effort for you to click log back in?

This is definitely complaining for the sake of complaining.

Finally someone that understands the feeling and reason why i want it!!! Also server resource issues cannot convince me, Bliz has money to solve it, even if they just use the money they got from Trader’s Gilded Brutosaur, they would be able to do that.

Dont need to explain, I get that. Seeing Azeroth as a refugium isnt a strange concept to me. I use mainly Youtube for that tough, so thats on my part, not thinking about that.

You are in a minimized setting and because there is the timeout, it probably does not affect the ressources as much. But if there is no timeout at all it isnt just the people being idle to enjoy they environment. But also the vast majority of people that are AFK in major cities.

Lets not forget WoW isnt just a small 20000 player game. Yet the server ressources are finite. The event of the recent patch is a good reminder of that.

Money money money, bliz has the money to solve it all, but they dont, keep accepting it as an absolute reality that cannot change, they know taking your money every month.
