Well, maybe not as dedicated healer who are using every kind of modifications internet can provide, but trying just keep team relatively healthy and heal/buff the tank. Problem is keeping myself alive and getting back to the group after dying ( i cannot resurrect myself). I am very new, just few raids, but for some reason groups are rushing, leaving several enemies alive, to the bosses. When i die i meet all those leftovers on my way back to the team and die again and again. Frustrating!
Another thing is that when i am being attacked i am usually forced to fight alone against attackers, being unable to help the team while they are busy to beat boss ignoring small things (they can ignore as long as i heal them). As an result, all things will collapse…I die, and so does group. Sometimes, i think, it is better to be an tank instead…
And third. Being healer is incredibly hectic, i still lack situational awareness while looking out team members who needs help and switching between them.
I use clique and Macro`s to mouse over heals. No need to click The person before you heal him you just move The mouse over him on The raid frame and click The heal.
I heal with all healers in The game
Healing Can Be stressfull. But i relax when i heal compare to dps or tank. But has also been healer since vanilla
If you’re healing with your drood, remember that you can go passed 99% of the trash with sneaky cat form, but if the group doesn’t wait for you, that sounds like you were playing with idiots to be honest …
If dying and not ressurect yourself is a big thing for you play shaman. Otherwise learn to wait when your way is free from mobs. Your first priority is tank then you then dps, dps can realistic do mechanics, so when situation arrives you choose tank over everything else. And yes stop casting if you have to dodge mechanic but the best is knowing where to stay in the first place. Youre not supose to fight anything without your group… and that awareness comes with time…
you can sneak in catform to get past enemies.
if an add is bashing you, just move close to the tank, it will get cleaved down/aggroed back…
if you want to be a tank, judging by the kind of people you group with, prepare to be bashed for not knowing every single route of every dungeon, and for pulling too little/too much every time.
If the post you made is from your main character then I know why.
Whilst leveling using the dungeon finder, when you choose random dungeon, you will get bonus xp from completing the dungeon. This bonus xp is massive so it’s quicker to enter the dungeon, skip as much trash and bosses as possible and just slap the last boss to death for mega fast xp.
Sounds silly, but; try real hard not to die. Triage and sacrifice dps if you have to, but you and the tank need to live. Healers are not expendable in endgame dungeons, it’s worth practising that mentality early. Use party frames that put the tank top, and you second (ElvUI can do this) as a reminder of who matters most.
Make sure you know what your defensives are, and put them on the same key as the defensives for all your alts. Add a hotkey for a healing potion and again, pick a common button for every character. You want to be pressing that button on instinct whenever you’re in trouble.
Mouseover macros will help (google them) as you won’t have to click to target then button to cast. Point and cast is faster.
Other than that, just practise. Make sure you know your main healing spells, which is most mana efficient for when you have time, which one to use when a player needs health quicker than that. Once you are pressing the right buttons without having to think about which buttons to press, then it gets much easier to actually pay attention to getting out of the fire. (Tip; while levelling, you can probably keep a group up with 2 buttons only.)
On those leveling dungeons it’s not that big of a deal.
I healed a few on my priest and i used only Grid ot something of an addon. Surprisingly people waited for me when I’m slow behind or fell somewhere ot whatever.
You seen very stressed, but shouldn’t be. Its just baby dungeons. And also, a good advice was given to you for writing down your rotation. This plus binding similar things on same keys. I do this all the time according to my main here. Interrupt is always the same, speed keys, big CDs, ccs, etc. This is very useful.
Also, if you dont know the dungeon well i think you cant have place and situational awareness. When you do them all till passing out, you will get used, jk, but
It’s a hectic thing to do, I have a healer at home and i say to him- naah, i want to pew pew and ez
Also ya, while leveling you can heal with two buttons at low levels.
Good luck and relax.
As mentioned above in leveling dungeons people are hard to heal since they rush from a to b as fast as possible without necessary knowledge about how mechanics will play out. Often their “fast” run end’s up in wipe x plenty! I would say it is much better in m+ environment since most tanks have learned every step of the dungeon (if they are serious). Also much depends on that non of the dps use CC!
Addons you must have as healer:
Vuh do
GTFO
I promise it will get much better otherwise I recommend shaman (best healer, like a god)
I completed with one group and got massive xp. We all took it easy. But now, last group, again, rushed into massive horde of enemies. I wasn’t even able to follow, died in minutes…(Read: seconds)
I disagree with the must have part as I don’t have either one. But addons do help indeed.
To OP: those leveling dungeons suck for the healer, don’t stress too much about it. Once you hit max level find a chill guild/community to practise with.
Honestly most of it will come with time, though oddly enough I don’t mind healing arena or BG’s but the thought of healing a M+ or Raid scares the life outta me.
Situational awareness is mostly practice, though I tend to find if I play tank or DPS for awhile I get back into the bad habit of somewhat tunnel visioning only looking out when I know or think something bad is coming.
But hey, you’re already miles ahead of me by even attempting raid healing! So keep at it!
This goes for everyone who isn’t the tank, but it is very true.
If you, the not-tank are being single targeted by a mob, get yourself onto the tank.
If you’re being hit by a ranged single target, it is kind of the tank’s job to get it off you, because aside from shamans, healers generally don’t have a way to make a mob stop casting and start running.
