My original plan was to play alliance, as I seriously prefer this faction in vanilla (the zones, the lore, the races), however every single pvp server is horde favored, the racials are way better (orc and undead) for pvp, and ele shamans are way more deadly than paladins will ever be it would seem (although I’ve heard holy paladins are capable).
Sooo what’s the truth about all of this: if I want to pvp with a warrior, am I going to have a better time on the horde side, or at least a less frustrating time?
NB: apparently if I really want to be alliance, I should go on ashbringer or zandalar tribe for a good time right? I mean to avoid being the underdog
Having freedom and another dispeller on top of priest is a really good enabler for warriors. Also consider that if you are rolling on a PvP server you will likely have shorter queues in BGs once they roll out since all PvP servers are horde favored.
I’d suggest looking for a server that is slightly higher horde pop and roll alliance there so you’ll still be able to find plenty of world PvP action as well once phase 2 rolls around because if you roll on one that has a lot higher horde pop you’ll end up chasing not finding any alliance around since they’ll be insta-gibbed by other horde.
What all of this has to do with a warrior? Freedom can be replaced by fap/lap, auras and fearward by totems, battleshout beats might anytime. Stun/fear resistance, bloodfury, windfury, chainheals are all horde only.
-tremor totem is absolute garbage compared to fearward, don’t even compare them
-alliance warriors can FAP just as wel, but freedom is a 16 sec spell on a 20 sec cooldown added to the possibility of faping, good luck ccing alliance warriors in grou pvp
-bloodfury is very situational due to the -50% healing debuff (although quite strong)
-shamans have decent healing, but they die way faster than holy paladins
Paladins are infinitely better healers/support than shamans in group pvp, it’s not even close. But the thing is ele/resto shamans are more bursters who need to offheal than pure healers, so it’s not really worth comparing both classes in pvp.
A warrior’s number 1 issue is always getting slowed and rooted, which is something paladins virtually remove, so it’s super big
nb: there’s no denying how broken stun resist is, and windfury totem, although it’s hard to use properly (because…you know, totems), can add a lot of burst potential.
Thing is: wf totem is not going to be super useful if you get cc’d all the time
Also, alliance warriors can use other potions than fap with paladins on their side (health pot and so on)
The pvp racials for horde are RNG, the alliance pvp racials are skill based.
AV has clear bias for alliance, you can get to exalted very easy and generally have an easy time in there. People can get very angry on horde side about AV.
I don’t know why there seems to be a bias for horde, it must be personal preference because the racials aren’t going to make you win BGs
I don’t know if you will be able to play long-term on the opposite faction, especially if you’re into PvP. I leveled originally on RPPvP Defias Brotherhood (in TBC) and to this day I can hardly bring myself to play Alliance. It just feels wrong to me. Durotar, Mulgore, the Barrens… That’s home for me.
So, since you’re Alliance at heart, play Alliance. Don’t let other factors stand in your way.
