Honourable Sylvanas only tells us the truth.
I flip a table.
I roll a d20 to see if I can convince Toso not to flip the table. I get a 7.
Varok Saurfang. Some Alliance posters here would call you a hero, but a hero does not leave his faction alone in a war nor plot against your friends with your mortal enemies!
You started this war, plunged Azeroth into chaos by failing to kill Malfurion, and now the Warchief’s loyalists will put you down, and restore peace and order into the Horde!
Your honeyed words fall deaf on the ears of Toso. The table is flipped. Take 2d4 bludgeoning damage and roll a humiliation check.
I stand unconvinced
Flips the table along with Crowton.
What the hell is 2d4?
It’s twice as many dice as 1d4.
And what’s 1d4…?
Dungeons and dragon term, means you roll 2dice, each with four sides, and the total number equals the amount of bludgeoning dmg taken
Look at this nerd not knowing what a 1d4 is.
Fair enough. I never played DnD.
1 dice, four sides aka 1 dice 1 to 4
takes 1/4 + 3/4 = 4 bludgeoning damage from the Toso’s terrifying flip and rolls 12 on the humiliation check
Ok, this is painful. But Uruk now has to pass a humiliation check too, one which is very hard.
Has awesome luck and passes the test easily.
Then you missed out man, 2nd Edition was the Daddy of Tabletop, 1st Edition was utter gash, and everything since 2nd was riding on 2nd’s Coattails…
Ahem, Back on topic…
For something to be Meta, it needs to be using knowledge not available to the Player Character. Let me give an example. You are playing a British Soldier in an RP setting in 1944, you know Adolf is the bad guy. You, as the person, knows that Adolf commits suicide in his bunker in 1945. You as the character does not know that, you can’t know what happens in 1945, it hasn’t happened yet for your -character- even if the -player- obviously knows that historical fact. For you to act as if you know Adolf tops himself in 1945 is using ‘Meta’ knowledge. Your character has no way of knowing this.
Now, say you are playing the same British Soldier in May 1945 as a character, someone runs past shouting “Ain’t you heard the news mate! Adolf topped himself in his Bunker, his tart and his dog too!”
Now at that point, you would not be using ‘Meta’ information to react to it, you would be reacting to what you have been told, it might be true, it might be false, but because you have been told it, then reacting to it is not ‘Meta’. If you have people running around in Brown cloaks claiming that Saurfang is alive and that is why they are wearing them IC, then reacting IC is not metagaming, it is reacting to IC information as your character would.
People -are- apparently running around making these claims, so to react to them isn’t ‘Meta’ It is reacting to other people’s RP and what they are claiming. Now whether -their- claims are Meta is another matter, personally Brigante is entirely unaware of this and thinks Saurfang died at Undercity, but he has not heard these rumours. I have on other characters, but Brigante has not. If I acted as Brigante based on what other characters of mine had heard, that too would be Metagaming. However if and when Brigante hears this rumour, then his reaction is not Metagaming, it is acting upon what he has been told.
As such, a campaign to discredit Brown Cloaks makes perfect sense for a middle ranking Forsaken officer with a vested interest in the status quo.
If Perroy had did the quest then claimed to have the knowledge the ‘Hero’ does, then that is metagaming, if however Perroy hears other people talking about it and acts upon that, it is not.
Hope that clarifies matters.
Washes all cloaks in holy water and exports them to Orgrimmar through a neutral party.
The original grognard.
Ahhh, I miss the good old days.
How would anyone but Saurfang and the 'hero’s know about these cloaks and cowls to begin with?
Unless the hero was caught or the dark ranger magically survived, spied and reported in regardless. Nobody, and I mean nobody but Saurfang and the Hero should know of it.
We are not Saurfang. We are not the Hero. The forsaken, sylvanas and those loyal have no way to know about it.
So meta or not, we the players should have no knowledge of this no matter what side of the fence you sit on. It’s all very confusing.
