If you can't play the game without any addons then there's something wrong

…And not with the game. Yes, the UI feels dated and could use a facelift, yes, the minimap could use two facelifts, but I just don’t get people who have been playing WoW for years now and yet say that the game is insufferable without THIS or THAT addon and calling other players noobs, among other things, for not using them. Take for example that “TRP” thing on RP servers which if you don’t use you are practically commiting an act of sacrilege, even if it’s not for you. It’s so that you can read “Genericelfname”'s made-up story about how they grew up on a rock in Feralas.
Plus all of the addons that you need in order to get to have a chance of being admitted in most elite raiding or sometimes even pvp groups/guilds. Also as far as I’ve heard there are also addons for autolooting stuff instantly before anyone else gets to click on them, which, if true, is totally cheating. It’s like going for a golfing match and seeing your adversary using a self-correcting golf club and a homing golf-ball with GPS.

Agree, I have never used any addons at all, and never will!

You CAN play the game without addons. There are no mandatory addons needed to play the game.

I never said that they are technically mandatory, I am talking about the players who seem to think so.

Goes to show that you didn’t read the post.

No offense but you dont do any content that requires addons such as raiding or mythic+… So of course you can play without it

This is true.

This is also true but players and guilds have been known to make certain addons mandatory in order to play with them.

Then you’re having a worse experience for no reason. The standard ui gives me migraines.

I’ve been playing the game since 2006,I think at some point I had DBM, but nowadays you see people calling others “noob” for not having add-on’s. It’s especially ironic when the term noob means “clueless newbie”.

Playing without addons is like riding a monocycle.

Significantly harder and only hipsters do it.

I feel the same about custom UIs.

The default UI gives me a better experience. It’s all personal preference.

Have you tried Elvui? You can build custom uis with it that are just more functionable. Having all your abilities stretched horisontally at the bottom of the screen makes no sense. Just imagine how often you need to move your eyes in different directions, which takes more timr. Elvui + weakauras is imo the best way to get information back to the player in a efficient way.

We all play the game how ever we like but with that said, noone should be called a noob or worse for not using insert any addon.

I have been a “heavy” addon user since vanilla. For ex, my PC couldn’t handle 1 boss in BWL back then with my addons so i always had to disable them all for that fight cause I always get D/C:ed when i entered that room, the rest of BWL was just fine.

People like me who use a certain UI/addon get so use to it that it feels kinda awkward to not use that UI/addon. Like ElvUI, i’ve use that for years and im so use to what that UI gives me. I tried many times to play with no or very few addons but i always end up with most of them enabled again.

Not sure what that looting addon is that you speak of. Some addons have an option for faster looting which basically dont let u see what you loot so you have to look in your log to see what you get.

If u are wiping becasue someone cant use WA or cant see timers and prepare for crucial mechanics then ofc other ppl will require them, especially since WA is pretty much must have on mythic

I have. And also lots of other ones.
The default UI works the best for me.

I have keybinds. And the time needed to move my eyes is so tiny, it’s insignificant.

No offence taken =)
And I understand what you mean, my personal opinion is that if you cant play any part of the game - high end mythic or just low lvling - with just the stuff givin in the client, then something is wrong.

Addons make timers and CDs easier yes, but if you just watch the boss you can cleary see when nasty stuff are about to happen =)

And for those that cant stand the base UI… well thats your problem =P Im perfectly fine with it and wouldn’t have it any other way =)

And again as someone said - You play this game in WHATEVER way you like! There is no wrong way =)
(Unless you cheating/botting ofc xD)

I used to play back in Vanilla and only recently returned. Man, I’m happy with my scrolling combat text and that’s about it. I can definitely see the benefit of addons but honestly I can’t be bothered going out of my way to install them, and seeing as I only do PUGs I doubt I’ll ‘need’ them any time soon.

There’s very few addons I’d consider essential… but there’s a bit more depth to this. For some addon developers, that’s their job, their living. Blizz could always just implement DBM or Details into the game, but that would mean Blizz would take away these people’s jobs. Then again, Blizz could always hire them, but maybe these programmers don’t want to relocate.

I think the game shouldn’t be designed around addon usage, but having necessary addons is fine. The fact is that the current… ecosystem works and if ain’t broken don’t fix it.

No one will ever take my improved UI from me, except LUA error, but it dont stay forever.

I need those because i’m not a freaking Cameleon able to rotate eyes in 15 different angles within 1.5s to pick every info, what the bad thing in this if it make the game more confortable to use ?

If you need to look at every ability before using it, that’s a you problem.
Most people in high-end content know their keybinds.
