So let’s pretend there’s a Neutral scenario on Exile’s Reach, in which you’re simply a stranded seafarer. You might have some Neutral quests, or perhaps you can access Horde or Alliance quests for the time being, as a sort of trial.
But when you leave the isle, you’ve chosen to remain Neutral, and forever will be. You’ll do endgame just like everyone else, but obviously some campaign content will be restricted, or you’ll have to act as a double-agent and choose which side’s NPC you talk to for each quest.
You’re just an adventurer at the end of the day, not the Hero of the Horde or Alliance.
It’s generally becoming easier to do. Legion was neutral outside of Stormheim and some followers. 8.3 was pretty neutral despite the rest of the expansion being about faction conflict. SL was neutral. DF is neutral so far.
The factions are a relic and only really serve purpose in PvP.
I’d appreciate a Skyrim like approach to the game for sure, be a neutral guy but have the choice to join and side with any group, and depending on your actions you will see the effects on the game.
I’ve said this multiple times, but blizzard should definitely make a solo RPG version of WoW that can be played solo and open it up for modding, looking at how successful skyrim is and how good blizzard is at polishing existing genres and taking them to the next level we could see the birth of a new era for gaming just like overwatch was to tf2 or dota was to warcraft.
sincerely… i know nowadays horde vs alliance isnt so popular… but i guess it would be a big loss. its a flavour to spicy the game like cheese on macaroni.
If BFA had allowed my characters to be neutral and do the quests alongside Magni Bronzebeard and Wrathion, I would had loved it.
I wouldn’t had even bothered if I had to do the same daily quest a million times, just to avoid the entire War campaign.
I like this idea a lot. As nobody seems to be altogether on my side, I’m not altogether on theirs.
With this I could choose to go the evil route if I so feel like it (such as taking a greedy stance), and another time do good. Then stay out of any troubles for the 3rd time as none of the options seem to be worth it, or even disarm both factions, as any of them gaining victory over the other would be worse than an already bad stalemate. (This latter event happened in Far Cry 2, one of my all time favorites!)
However, it would be great if the rewards didn’t force you to be on one side anyways. They could be say, cosmetics in such a case, rather than gear.
Say, I’d be glad if I could take the Old Gods’ side if the next xpac is Old God vs Titans. I just don’t like them at all, on the other hand, I really loved N’Zoth’s whispers.
The nicest thing is that I’d get to hear two sides of every tale and ask myself, if the side I picked has ultimately worth it. Did they align better with my morals? Were the results worth the work so many creatures’ blood was shed for? Is there even a proper side to ally with?
Being a trader or mercenary, like a goblin. Fixed neutral status.
Trying to juggle rep like Aldor-Scryers or Bloodsail-Steamwheedle, except the balance is about neutral. (Can go to unfriendly, in which case you can do the quests but people don’t trade with you, like the broken at the temple in northern Zangarmarsh.)
I don’t see the viability of removing the faction war. In a new game focused on cooperation, sure, but there are so many mirror quests and stuff, it would be awkward. Plus the stories in expansions focusing on war, such as Cataclysm or BFA.
We could, theoretically, become fixed Neutral+ with all factions, being well respected heroes literally everywhere, able to walk all streets of Shattrath, Dalaran and every capital, it would be cool. But story-wise I’m not sure it would work out well.
Like as an orc, I would walk up to Silverwing Outpost, kill’em’all, then move on a few paces and be welcome to join Warsong Gulch. Which side would I be anyway?
If you chose to be neutral, than you are eligible to be attacked by both factions.
The alternative could be: you don’t get to activate Warmode.
If you are a Human or any Alliance race, you join as a mercenary on the Alliance side Bgs.
If you are a Orc or any Horde race you join as a mercenary on the Horde side of Bgs.
During a faction conflict expansion, while both player characters fight to help their factions come on top of the conflict, the neutral player character works along side people like Magni Bronzebeard, Wrathion and Khadgar to stop it.
Upon choosing to be neutral, the player is warned he’s making a choice that will limit his options, rewards and this is choice can’t be reverted.
Which means this character can no longer access the main cities of each faction and he’s now forever an outcast. A choice that probably the vast majority would avoid, but I’m fine with that as I never liked overcrowded places.
Now that they’ve broken down Horde vs. Alliance, perhaps something more interesting can be done in its place. Swearing allegiance to various factions and/or leaving them, then warring other players.
Of course it’s slightly dangerous business because you risk players just changing to whichever faction wins the most and then that faction becoming overpopulated and queues coming in, but I imagine there’s plenty of solutions to that. Just need a think.
As a thought it seems ok (i prefer the factions) but…
Blizz should add a whole cities, npcs, trainers lore and quest for it cause you are not Horde or Alli.
All those workhours i would prefer to be dropped into real issues at the game.
No, I don’t. In fact, I hope that in the next expeansion the feeling that I belong to a faction will come back. I don’t like horde and alliance dancing together and I hope the next ecpansions will bring back the war between the horde and the alliance. I am tired to save the universe.
