It makes totally sense from a techincal standpoint, just becuase you believe it does not make sense does not means you are right.
It makes sense for Blizzard to copy millions of characters to new servers. yeah ok.
I don’t care, I do not have Classic characters, I will start from zero on TBC. What I want and what I don’t want is irrelevant for this topic, my point was that those arguments that copy is not possible because it can be exploited does not make sense because people can only exploit if they can choose when and how to copy, but having an option for a copy does not make any sense. I do not need to have a personal interest on a topic to have an opinion about that.
Oh, you could do better, you could increase your random numbers if you break down every character on everything they have like equipment, spells, and skills and talk about billions of things to be copied. Just because you made an odd number that sends to big to be done does not means it is. The data on their database that belongs to one character could be stored in just a few KB, a few millions of characters like you said it is just a few GBs, a size that a size that fits on a pendrive , I doubt all the data from just one realm could reach even 1 GB of data, and probably all the data of every realm, both Classic and Retail, would be just a few hundred of GB maximum. So, no, it is not too much data for Blizzard to keep a backup of.
Tell you what I’m not gunna do though. Comment on some half baked leak.
right so what i’m getting is all Classic realms going tbc.
I can either move my 60 char to a classic realm or if choose not too those chars are stuck on a tbc realm.
Well i was gonna re-roll to something else so i might aswel start leveling him/her up today. I wasn’t planning on going belf or draenei anyways. Or jewelcrafting for that matter.
Ye, it would have to be a copy all characters and copy once. But things will get difficult for Blizzard as EVERYONE would do this… With transfers Blizzard can more easily see beforehand what the populations will be like, and having to deal with millions of character copy’s isn’t as easy as you make it out to be.
It’s for a reason Blizzard didn’t chose the copy route.
This isn’t a “leak”, it was published accidentally by Blizzard themselves on their own website. So this comes directly from Blizzard.
Of course not. They will 100% open new tbc servers without thinking it is necessary or not.
There is a big crowd who play tbc if and only if they open fresh servers. Check some community websites questionnaires.
FOREVER YOUNG I WANT TO BE
Twink 60 until I die, love that. Would be like my gayming retirement just forever spamming bgs for no reason but fun.
Then step through the portal with a full green thrash alt to raidlogg at 70 and suprise suprise still do 60->70 in less than a full day KEKW.
Why do you think they will open more servers when all classic servers will change into TBC? Do you expect more players than back in 2019 that will force them to do so?
In case they need to open more TBC servers because current ones are not enough, well then fine make them fresh. But I can’t see that the current servers will be as overcrowded that they will need to add more TBC servers, just no…
It is a leak. Official or not its a fraction of the information needed to form an accurate picture.
For several reasons. First, remember Classic’s start and crowd in six starting areas, than imagine that crowd will be at Hellfire Peninsula at the same time. They would need at least 15+ layers to make it possible.
Another reason is, you know, big “fresh start” community. And newcomers.
Another reason is the map design. Vanilla map is designed for max 10k population servers (in vanilla, there were only 2-3 servers at 10k). And we played Classic at like 40k+ servers on average. It is simply not possible for Outlands.
Now, we are at the dead stage for Classic. Current populations are very misleading to decide atm.
Im up for fresh ofc, if current servers arent enough for the TBC population.
Not a fan of the forced transfers.
It will create so much new Drama with char names and stuff. Lets say you transfer to a classic realm, what if the few realms will be filled super fast and your names are taken?
This will cause a lot of Drama, it would have been much wiser to start new realms for TBC and let everyone start from scratch.
Well, I do not like to say “I told you” but Blizzard has not only confirmed there will be a copy, they also confirmed they will copy all the characters at once, every realm will be cloned into a TBC realm and a new Classic realm and people could choose wich one to use free or pay to have access to both.
Really? I thought you have to pay to copy 1 character. Either way, nice!
The way I understand by watching blizzconline is as follows:
All classic realms will be split into two realms.
So for example your realm Firemaw will be split into two realms. Firemaw TBC and Firemaw Vanilla. You will be given the choice for every character which realm you want to be. This is for free.
And as a paid option, you can also keep a copy on Vanilla and another copy on TBC.
You have to pay to access the copy. What they said in the QA is that on the pre-patch maintenance they will copy all realms and have a Classic and TBC version of every real. When you log in you should choose what version to play, which means your character will be copied in both versions but you will only have access to one of them for free, if you want to have access to both you will need to pay. I suppose with this they ensure in case anyone chooses an option and regrets he still has the option to pay for the copy because the backup is already saved.
