And this is what differentiates dedicated collectors from the wanna be ones. Nah, it doesn’t need any heavy grind nerfs, they need to be preserved. If yout want to complete more than 50%, put in the time and effort instead of begging for nerfs to make it easy for you. If you are not prepared to enter these waters, then don’t, but don’t try to change the game according to your vision.
Have to agree with this.
If anything, it needs better streamlining (which they have been doing),
and an option to actually level slower and enjoy the expansion of choice.
I think over time players just lose interest. Because it is just time and effort.
That’s my experience anyway.
The first time Blizzard says: “Do all these new things that take time and effort!”
Players are like: “Hell yeah!”
And the second, third, fourth, and so on, it’s the same response.
But eventually the inclination to put in that time and effort decreases, because what you get out of it in the end is always the same - and that gets less desirable with every time.
“Yay, another mount, another toy, another title…”
But the time and effort Blizzard asks of the player remains constant.
And that is why it has to stay the same. True collectors will find the joy in hunting for these things even under current conditions, really.
And those who are not collectors and affected as specified by you are just dopamine seekers. They will never stop asking for more and more nerfs to get more and more stuff accessible and easier to obtain.
If the game is tailored according to them, in the end we all will have everything and nothing will have any value at all. You will ruin the value of dedicated collector’s collections and never make the others satisfied. In the end there will be no reason to play left for many players.
Look at MoP WB mounts, since they have made them easily obtainable, you don’t see people using them at all. Sha mount was quite noticable before the drop chance bug and then increase + remix, now I haven’t seen anyone riding it for months.
I used to live in a country in central Europe with communism in place, we all were the owners of everything and everyone had everything according to their needs as they said. And in the end almost everything was worth a sh*t.
That’s a personal choice. The game gives you options.
That’s not a solution.
If I love hamburgers and I get fed hamburgers every single day, there’s going to be a point where I will say: Okay, enough with the hamburgers. I want something else now.
True, but in the early days what you did meant something while leveling. Now its a rush towards max level, get geared asap through delves, get max gear in mythic+ and raids and cancel sub after a month.
To me with a degree on economics is a nonviable strategy in the long run, if you need customers to spend money in the long run.
It appears to be an untenable position one way or the other to me.
I don’t think Blizzard maintains the interest of many players by doubling down on the hardcore collector and completionist mentality.
Most normal players will nope out of the neverending Korean grind that the game inevitably presents itself as, repeating endlessly with every Season and expansion.
I also don’t think there’s much future in caving to the masses and giving them an overdose of dopamine by showering them with rewards for little to no effort. Remix is a good example of Blizzard just shoving collectibles down people’s throats. It works here and now, but eventually people are going to have so many mounts and titles and pets that they simply won’t care for more, even if they’re given out practically for free.
Maybe that’s why Blizzard does Housing now? A final hail Mary, a hope that people will get hooked on creativity in the game alongside social interactions and a sense of community. One way or the other I don’t think the status quo is very sustainable for a game that tries to have mass market appeal and sustained popularity amongst a variety of different players.
Irrelevant, these items have objective value defined by the steps needed to obtain them. Does not matter if it is monetary value or your personal choice.
The value is there, or more likely the steps needed to take to get it are there and it is up to you to decide whether it is worth it or not.
So far so good, but here comes the player who does not like it, does not want to take these steps but still wants to get the reward and screaming for a change.
You like this behavior and I don’t, simple as that.
There is no choice if you look at the content they provide with each season. The squish in DF, the complete lack of meaningfull story, the ongoing balance-updates on esports etc.
It all points towards the end-game grind, only to repeat itself in 5 months or so.
And farming mounts? Yay, another one to add to the already 350 that I never use…
Addendum: even delves are a grind now, 2 keys from weekly quests, the other 2 are grinding worldquests and worldsouls.
Yes, because they permanently work on devaluing them, in the end nobody will be interested in mounts anymore. Gave a nice example of MoP World boss ones…
Depends on the type of content you enjoy, I suppose.
I do think Blizzard should move away from the seasonal concept and make it more … episodic, I suppose. Right now expansions don’t feel like they advance our character progress anymore. Instead we get ‘reset’ and have to do it over again in each season. It’s a bit much.
But when you look at leveling or questing content: I still enjoy that and take my time. I don’t rush through it.
