When questing in Khaz Algar, I am once again reminded that so many quests are simply: kill these 5 animals to collect something for my ritual.
I understand that for most players that’s no big deal. But what if you’re playing as a Druid, or a Paladin? You might not even be RP, but you still want to feel somewhat in-character as you undertake your heroic journey across the new lands. Killing noble shalehorn makes no sense. My characters want to protect life and uphold ideals of justice. But I’m basically no better than the Venture Co., or Hemet Nesingwary’s crew.
As a suggestion, some quests should offer you alternate ways of obtaining items from innocent creatures. Like, interacting with it to “collect” the fur you need or whatever. Perhaps you take the thing you need by fighting it for a bit and then you soothe it.

I’m never ever tired of killing the innocent (or the guilty) or…or…or…

The whole game is like that though.
If a group has different beliefs to the group the player is working for, they are called “cultists” and the player is sent to kill them.
The cults in WoW frequently deliver on their promises, making them less like IRL cults.

You know it’s a game, right? and 3D figures also don’t have feelings, so you don’t have to worry about it.

By all means, let’s just remove the entire story and all immersive fantasy elements from it, then, shall we? It’s just a game after all and nothing else matters except ilvls and Mythic raid progress.
I know the creatures are just digital assets. I’m not worried about them, lol. I’m talking about my experience as a player. There’s a reason I choose to play “good” classes affiliated with the “good” cosmic forces of Light, Life, and (argualy) Order.
If I wanted to experience the game more as “victory at any cost”-type of renegade character, I would have rolled a Warlock or something.
It’s as if we were playing DnD and I had to commit a bunch of atrocities regardless of what my character was like.

There are peaceful players who have managed to level 1 to max by doing peaceful activities like herbing. If you insist, you too can pluck wee- quality herbs and earn experience Paladin!

Yeah the wanton slaughter of harmless animals always gave me an ick. The elephants especially. They make such a tragic sound when they die

Yeah the wolf ones hit me especially hard as I have dogs that look quite wolfy - plus the noises they make are too realistic. Have to turn my sound off. I just pretend they are mimics. There are several things I have to do that don’t fit my character, sadly. I doubt it’s going to change.

Of course it matters, if you RP.
However, the linear quest lines of the modern WoW, means that actual RP is limited.
As a druid-only player, this game lives and breaths through druid eyes for me. I really like the idea that druids would have alternative ways of completing some “kill beast” quests.
It is what I would do if I were in that situation as a druid. I certainly would try to find an alternative way to accomplish my task while preserving the key values that I, as a druid, uphold to the highest degree.

I like this suggestion. Reminds me of Lunk who offers an alternative to killing mobs in Searing Gorge. I wouldn’t mind having alternative ways to play
When I read posts like this, I have even more fun and joy in smashing the creatures in wow mercilessly with my 2-hand ax and removing their flesh from their bodies so that I can later grill it on the grill with a few spices, making it all the more delicious and yummy !

Or maybe an Ash Ketchum wanna be and collect every pet to become the best Pet Trainer!!! GOTTA CATCH THEM ALL!
Just animals? what about millions of pixels that get slaughtered every day!!
This is how WoW has always been. I’d probably say that if this is too much for you to handle, maybe you need to find a game where this isn’t a feature.
even though OP is joking, there are people like that that ruin the game for the world x.x

I’ve re-read the OP and I’m fairly certain they’re not joking, although I wish they were.

Staple of RPG quests, starting with killing rats in a basement.
