Immersion Tweaks #1: Metamorphosis -> Possess Voidwalker

Season of Discovery is far from out, and I’m already hyping myself blind.

That said, I think there are some small tweaks we can do to improve immersion into this old world of ours, without requiring significant development time.

The “Metamorphosis” visuals sticks out like a sore thumb in Classic Wow.In parts because most of the spell effects in vanilla was a lot more subtle, but also because most player fantasies in vanilla was closer to a “strong adventurer” rather than an “omnipotent hero of Azeroth”.Seeing dozens of metamorphed Warlocks in Ironforge won’t feel great, just like seeing dozens of Scarab Lords wouldn’t.

Suggestion:

Rename “Metamorphosis” to “Possess Voidwalker”.The spell and combat works just like Metamorphosis, except you have to have a Voidwalker summoned to use it. The caster disappears into the Voidwalker, and can do the same spells as metamorphed.

This gives us just a tiny extra bit of vanilla flair, and greater consistency!

I think it would have been better if the Metamorphosis were unique for each race. The character could grow to Tauren size, grow horns and wings, maybe a demonic tail, and gain hooves. It could maybe have a “shadowform” style texture as well, with the addition of flames (sort of like a Balrog), but the main model would still practically be that of our race. Ok, Gnomes would probably need some extra tweaking as they’d look odd, but the others would look pretty good even without too much visual tweaking.

The good thing would be that we’d get some visual diversity, but it would also make it clear that our characters are, at their base, still human (or gnome, or orc, or forsaken), granted power by (or having stolen power from) demons rather than being demons themselves.
