But like, do you take time to make sure they’re out of range? I don’t see any situation where /w or /p wouldn’t be better if that’s the (unlikely) case.
I’m not advocating for people to disrupt anything. Just wary of over policing and lumping everyone into the same bracket. As long as they are mindful and I don’t see it. It does and will not bother me. Most of the time I see nothing from meme roof when I’m around. And anyone yelling ooc I do report. If people want to use /s and it’s safe and away from people then I don’t see the issue. It’s when they aren’t is the issue. Maybe others have had it disrupt them and see it. I personally don’t, but thats me.
Not gonna lie, AD needs some policing in my opinion. The lack of it has given way to the ‘Gates’.
It genuinely blows my mind that people just sit up there talking nonsense. People with actual TRP’s, too.
Honestly if you want to go afk and talk about OOC stuff use discord or party chat or something.
This was how it was on Moonglade when I first started playing WoW at some point in Vanilla days. My friend who introduced us made it very clear about this rule. It was wonderful not to have to listen to the drivel people now talk in say in places like Boralus or parts of Stormwind.
If there was one rule Blizzard could bring back, especially as there are so few RP realms now, this would be amazing! Even if it was just for /s channel and emotes.
Obviously this ‘out of the way’ platform for /s OOCing is being seen and causing disruption and frustration otherwise no one would be complaining.
If you’re all in the same zone to chatter away OOC, why not use the general chat channel provided?
Not wanting to drag this further, but even when I’m questing with mates out of the reach of everyone else, I use either party chat, bnet or discord, so this “It’s out of the way so it’s ok.” doesn’t hold any water when there are so many other better options that aren’t a breach of the rule set, I don’t understand how hard is it to understand, unless one only is doing it for thr sake of being stubborn about it.
I remember Blizzard used to do free server changes for populated servers. It’d be cool if there could be an Argent Dawn to [PvE/PvP] realm or something.
But I guess its not likely, it doesn’t generate money.
As a part of encouraging more RP on the server, I’d like for people to check out our latest market event Hordeside:
These events can get pretty big and are an epic way to make friends and join guilds. We also host these once every 1-2 months in different locations, bringing life to areas where little RP happens normally.
I hope to see people there!
The mature filter was added because of the subset of players who write content that shouldn’t be on profiles that can potentially be seen by minors, not for them. I am sure they are more than happy to use this as an excuse, but I also very much doubt that they would care if the filter didn’t exist.
It’s because Blizzard has shown no interest in resolving that issue that the filter was made as a feature to TRP3. Addon logs weren’t a thing back then, so the only way to do something about it was to check words against a dictionary and filter if necessary.
Unfortunately, given how bad the filter was in the past, it wasn’t enabled by default, so that protection has been pretty minimal at best.
sadly thats the biggest Reason why RP Wishes are widely ignored by the Developers and Blizzard. It does not brings in Bucks.
I think making server policy “no OOC in General, Trade, and /say” would be really funny. I’m not sure it would be a good idea, but it would be delightful.
Also miss the less event-driven RP of old school AD, where it was just people slowly, ineptly playing the game while roleplaying, getting IC groups together for Uldaman, dying three times to a Coldridge Yeti because they were typing out battle dialogue. Not being sarcastic, that genuinely ruled. Probably a bygone era though.
I might rejoin trade/general if that happened, honestly.
So, reading through all of this will take too much of my time, but do we see erp as the biggest issue in rp? (Sure if we delve into that kids are being abused by adults I see your issue and that needs to be dealt with but better than print screening and screaming to the world that “user132” is a pedo, go undercover or something I donno)
What about when people go ooc and start hunting or harassing others, quite common unfortunately. I also tend to see many people judge others people rp and being very vocal about it which I feel is a very weird way to promote roleplay in general. Oh, also the classic whatever is in your about section I can see or know about already and will meta this into rp. feels good man.
Drama is part of life and also rp but when you take it oocly that’s when things become an issue and just goes to show how much we fight to be in our bubbles.
Ps: If blizzard actually made ignores be account wide things would be so much better.
I would say so, yes ERP is the biggest issue the RP community has internally because it is absolutely destructive to any community efforts and instantly ties IC to OOC
it is also cringe
Also bad yeah, but please do not mistake naming the issue with starting a “witch-hunt”
I think it is OK to talk about the Dos and Don’ts when you stick to the truth
I wish the ignore function would “phase” the ignored player away so that you can no longer see them
When i was trying to open a guild bank for my alt i decided i’d RP it in the trade district so for that half hour it took me to gather the signatures i swindled people into signing up for a “bank of the people for the people”. I use the word swindle because RP wise there would have never been such a bank(And i told them that in a whisper) and my character is a swindler by nature. This evolved into helping a new guy into RP and we built a “Bought stolen identity” together (a starter RP character).
I am telling this story because it was nice and people seemed to enjoy it as well even for that 5min or so of interaction. I think it would have been nice if we could roleplay such interactions more (if you have the time for it).
I think making it public whenever someone is caught ERPing is good for discouraging ERP. It ends up making it a choice, either you want to be part of the community and have open doors to guilds, campaigns and all other sorts of RP, or you can ERP. This choice alone can lead people who would otherwise ERP in WoW into picking another alternative that is not connected to the game.
Also, it´s easy to say how we need to deal with this in better way, but how about you elaborate on what that better way is? Because “going undercover or something, I donno” is not really saying much.
This is certainly an issue, but just like with ERPers, I believe making it known who these people are is the best way to discourage that sort of behavior.
I think this is more of an individual thing rather than a community issue, since there are people who will judge others no matter what (and it´s possible that some of those people will be far worse in terms of RP quality or ability to write a good profile than those they are making fun of).
Nonetheless, I think it´s important to distinguish between making fun of profiles because “lol, someone did a lore or spelling mistake” and making fun of profiles like blatant ERP profiles, child RPers (who often are clearly ERPing on those characters) and so on.
Ahh OK, that’s fair enough then
Also true
Have you contacted them about it at all, just out of interest?
I think you could put a dent in some of the trial account abuses by blocking the 18+ websites they tend to link there - it’s usually the same one they use AFAIK
Thanks for the response again
That would be a blessing, if only just so it would stop the incessant spam of people selling Mythic dungeon runs and all that.
Yesterday me and a good friend of mine (WoW gamer Anna’lyssa) were minding our business as we took a step into the sinister place of Silvermoon Bazaar. There was a certain blood elf character with a subscription (NOT a trial account) and some EXTREMELY distressing TRP3 descriptions, mostly pertaining to certain erotic substances and having a collar on a chain.
Both of us ended up sending tickets to report the person in question and soon after I got a response (some wording might be off, since it was translated from russian):
This leaves me concerned, seeing as to how I specifically used the category of tickets for modifications (aka addons). The thing is, addons like TRP3 are basically a separate in-game alternative to public channels. They must be moderated by Blizzard just like /say, /emote or /2.
I hope that in the future Blizzard informs its gamemasters PROPERLY on matters about new specific additions to allow logs of TRP3 and other similar features to allow for moderation which some are apparently oblivious they are responsible for.
