But of all of these, it is the “will” i don’t think they have. You need the passion from love for your work to produce the best stuff. Terrible team spirit/moral, slave driving, abuse (both of females and men who are often blamed for everything whether they are guilty or not), can be a terrible atmosphwere and soul sapping environment to work in that will never produce great work.
not the levels of love we saw in TBC or in Legion anyway… that takes loving your project… alas, it is what I am thinking is no longer there.
You don’t see the level of detail, love, and extra mile blizzard use to be famous for. WE saw it Legion, and thought, they’re back ! amazing expansion, but quality kept dropping after.
See Final Fantasy, they apologised for a sub-par project than went all out on a remake. I mean all out. that till theis day, not only are they standing, but drawing subs from Wow itself… most players had no idea it was so good a game… they never tried it, it didn’t have the press and word of mouth, it took Asmogold to show them, and now they see, but it’s been there.
Blizzard have had all the advantages, but they also use to do great work. Their next expansion needs to pull out all the stops, because a failure and it would be so hard to recover that rep.
And i don’t think they have the will to do it. I mean they won’t even fix the alliance.
Eldre’thalas and Suramar ARE the only two cities to survive
They did summon an arcane demonic entity themselves
They trapped it and succsesfuly siphoned it to power thier city
They enver got caught, never drew back the burning legion through their magic, so obviously were not only fully aware of the need to hide magical casting from the twisting nether, but were successful at it,
All this under the watchful eye of their northern cousins, wild gods and dragons - remember the night elve sin the north were all magic users themselves, many of them highborne and moonguard who had agreed to put up this ban to protect Azeroth and were mostly working as druids suppressing magic across the continent.
They overcome their addiction and corruption themselves, Chronicles tells us this.
Do tell me how all this information, directly from the lore, some how is not eluded too?
While this is believable, it is never stated. It’s not to say the zin’Azsahri lot weren’t good. Azshara and second in command Xavius were there, but in an empire, sometimes the best are put further way so the leader can shine brighter, or put to work to do more.
Also Suramar’s Nar’thalas acadmey was the world renowned magical research centre… but then it is leader’s not fighters or researchers that are often at the capital. Anyway, Suramar wasn’t far from Zin’Azshari, and in Azsuna you are told Faronar is the remains of the main road that led into Zin’Azsahri… the legion have destroyed all the night elf ruins there and it is fel pocked now. - it would have been more densely populated
And we all know it was Thalassian ancestors who taught the Queen. The sources are there. You just need to find them
All Elves overcame a form of corruption. Shen’dralar aren’t special, in that regard.
It was actually. It’s stated that Azsuna was far from Zin-Azshari, hence why Farondis was free from the corruption of the Legion.
Brigante is right - your in desperation because you want night elves to be the only race in-game with a straight up “I win” button at all times. They are not the bestest of the best - you need to get over that fact.
It’s clear they aren’t, since they not only lost 1 city home, but they lost 2.
Wow…I mean what? Why? The had one small military outpost there, Falcon Watch, to protect the Blood Elf Pilgrims. It wasn’t even a permanent location, it had one small spire, and the rest was just tents. It has nothing that speaks of the Blood Elves to it. Terrokar, no Blood Elf settlements, the one that -did- exist, was nuked by their own Mana-Bomb. Plus why the Hells would they abandon Silvermoon? Void elves (Until we get some concrete lore stating this) are a tiny number, probably about 40 or so, described as a ‘Squad’ . Sure, Umbric talks about sending one of his best Regiments, but either that is Umbric talking out of his bum, or Blizzard talking out of their bum (most likely this, it wouldn’t be the first time they have used a word completely incorrectly) . I don’t think they know how big a Regiment is! Likewise High Elves are described as a ‘Race in name only’ and are functionally extinct, as in within two to three generations they will be factually extinct. If either or both tried to take Quel’thalas they’d be lucky to make it a hundred yards into the Ghostlands before they were annihilated.
a) There are no Horde Night Elves, they are Nightborne. They are physically different now, Thalyssra even says that when you first meet her.
b) Do you seriously think the Nightborne ‘get’ Suramar? Have you seen what they actually get, the playable race? For goodness sake, even Telogrus has more than the Nightborne get!
It just got burned down. Do you expect a new one Overnight? That’s the Blood Elves thing, not a Night Elves thing.
They’re OK, but they lack modern techniques, they’re way behind in Thaumaturgy for a start, and Enchanting, and Warding.
Isn’t that supposed to be part of their tragedy, part of their story? That they were as much, if not more, victims of Aszhara than anyone else?
Yes, because there are less Void Elves than there are in the average cul-de-sac in a small English village.
‘might be’? Try ‘is’. Putting it on the right Map would be a good start, but they daren’t do that, because if you could fly there, you would notice that it is all pretty 2D. That would mean they have to update it to bring it up to the standards of any other city in -Vanilla!-
Yep, which needs updating too, and putting on the right map.
Pretty sure the humans haven’t got Lordaeron. No One has. They sacked the place and moved on. Again, there are no Horde Night Elves.
Do they though? Orgrimmar is good, but it’s no Stormwind. Thunder Bluff is very pretty, but not as good as Ironforge. Echo Islands isn’t a city, but then nor is New Tinkertown. Darnassus and Undercity are both gone. Silvermoon and Exodar are trapped in TBC and unfinished almost 16 years on. Gilneas is beautiful but has no facilities, Bilgewater Harbour is ugly, and has no facilties, Pandaren are Neutral-ish, but have their respective Shrines. And all the Allied races pretty much get small places, or neutered instances of bigger cities.
True. Glad we finally agree.
Oh Hells no it does not. Not Civilisation, and not even pretty. Silvermoon -would- be pretty, if it was properly rendered. Nightborne don’t get Suramar.
Thunder Bluff is probably the prettiest city.
Wat? Dazar’alor is gaudy hideousness, Boralus is stunning. Dazar’Alor is a nightmare to navigate, especially if you’re into professions, Boralus is laid out sensibly.
If you think getting someone’s allotment is cool stuff, I don’t know what to say.
Err. no?
Thus proving the Night Elves are massive hypocrites “Oh, so Dath’remar was -right- because you just did it. Whoopsie, we Exiled them…”
Think you’ll find it was one of the Vials from the Well of Eternity that created the Sunwell. After it’s corruption by Kil’jaeden using it as a health spar, it was restored.
Hello, we’re in ‘Anything you can do, I can do better’ Territory again.
Ahahahahaha…Seriously? No they are not.
Says who?
But were surpassed.
Actually the Nightborne seem to be the experts at Telemancy, the Blood Elves as Enchanters and Fire Mages.
If that man told me it was dark at midnight, I would ask for a second opinion. He says whatever sells. He also disrupts realms, or did on WoW at any rate. I saw it. It was not a pretty sight. His fans harbour amongst them (Not all of them, but a significant number) some of the scum of the earth, the very scum.
Because fel is cool, for Kalibas and he likes it so Blood Elves should like it.
Even though, the Blood Elves shunned the Demon Hunters as “freaks” and Lor’themar has spoken about his misjudgments when it came to fel and demonic magic, entering Silvermoon.
Also, Quel’Thalas authorities closed down the Warlock tailoring shop.
It only ‘looks and feels more attractive’ if you want to be on the side where there are less interesting stories to be made. I don’t. I prefer interesting stories.
You’re working really hard to tell us why the world is more exciting (for you) if you play a horde character, when the majority of people who are choosing horde over alliance because of the lack of balance aren’t seeing much of the world at all. All they see is the inside of raids and dungeons.
The reason that Nightborne exist and don’t get along with Night Elves is precisely the fact that the Night Elves absolutely abhor their magical heritage and resent the splendour of Highborne society. The Night Elves built their homes in the ruins of Highborne cities with only their temples remaining the same, the rest of their architecture is purely kindling- I mean natural. Yes, the original Highborne who did not become Night Elves or Nightborne are still strong in their own right, but it was only in Cataclysm that they eventually relented and agreed to play by the rules of the Night Elves because they were at risk of being wiped out.
I suspect that if they ever decide to plump for a new Night Elf city they’ll integrate it with the Exodar or a city that will replace the Exodar on Azuremyst Isle as in lore the majority of Night Elves ended up going to Azuremyst Isle due to its close proximity to Teldrassil and Darkshore.
But every time this topic comes up we point out that WE are talking about the endgame pve scene, raiding and m+. It doesnt matter if alliance is 80% of the playerbase if you cant recruit people for raids or there are close to no keys in the dungeon finder.
When I tried to play some on my alliance chars this night, there were no keys at some points. Still plenty of keys on horde at the time.
I really wish this wasn’t such a problem, I like the alliance races aesthetics far more than horde. I’ve grown tired of playing horde because I don’t really like how any race looks.
No necessarily, if the rest of the lore the ambience, isn’t engaging or appealing enough, all the most dedicated warcraft lovers would be m+ runners.
THe lore and ambience captivated many more people. If this was once more dynamic and interesting and not so one sided -lopsided, it will draw peopel back, boost engagement… this is in fact how people, well new people get into raids and m+, they don’t start liking raids or m+
They start liking warcraft, the setting the fantasy, when they like it a lot, they play some more, and then get into m+ and raids, and that fun becomes a high point… but without the meaningful and cool stuff to draw on, it will fizzle away because it is the foundation, and don’t improve or build upon your foundation, then all the other things that arose because of it will crumble and fade away like the corruption that melted from the tear of Elune in the Ysera death Val’sahrah video
I didn’t. In fact, I was put off starting to play WoW for some time because I thought I’d be required to fight the ‘opposing’ faction. It was only when I learned that wasn’t a requirement, that PvE realms were a thing, that I decided to try it out. Judging from how busy the PvE realms were before they changed the system, I can extrapolate that there were many, many other people who felt the same as I did.
The EVIDENCE (someone posted a link to the figures further upthread) is that the faction imbalance is at its worst at the highest levels of PvE content. That means the factions become more balanced as difficulty level decreases (from 82% horde/18% alliance at 2.6k M+ rating to 68% horde/32% alliance at 1.5k rating) and it’s reasonable to assume that trend continues into HC and normal dungeons and players who don’t enter dungeons and raids at all. By the time you reach players who don’t complete any instanced content, it’s a fair assumption that the factions are fairly close to balanced.
Thus, the faction imbalance is not caused by lore and won’t be fixed by lore, but you’re too much in love with your own idea to recognise that, even when so many other posters have put it right in front of you.
It’s true, they were and are many people who prefer not to fight other people and promote peace… shame the lore never actively tried to promote factions within each race that actually w anted cross faction corproation or brew closeto races on the sides…
From the lore there are anumber of each possiblities that could result
Blood elves with draenei, humans and night elves have a scope for coprportion
Humans with blood elves and orcs
Night elves with Nightborne, Void elves, Tauren and Highmountain
Tauren with Night elves, Worgen
Draenei with blood elves, orcs - and given their nature you can see some of them willing to be peaceful with every horde race
I don’t think trolls like anyone… no seriously, only with the orcs out of honour otherwise it would be the middle finger.
Don’t think dwarves like any horde race, and would hate blood elves for joining the horde.
Gnomes and Mechagnomes - you can see being able to be friendly with everyone who likes technology (except gobins)
Goblins will get on with anyone they can swindle or get a one up on
Forsaken - with humans (especially after the BFA novel)
Alliance racials are already pretty good. The alliance story could use some moral grayness to make them more interesting.
But the main reason the alliance is bleeding players is because at some point alot of people went horde for one reason or another. And then more people kept going horde because they either knew people playing there or they just wanted a bigger pool of people to play with.
And idk if this is still the case since i havent played for a while. But because the horde was the dominant faction they even got mercenary mode for pvp. So if you wanted to play some bgs why would you ever choose the alliance? You could just play both factions as the horde. Wich is a pretty sweet boon if one side is losing alot on that time of the day.
So for the pvp side mercenary mode even took away the reason to go alliance for the short queue times.
I agree about the racials… and I don’t think making them super powerful is the best way or right choice…
Some alliance races could use a little fucntionality increase or boost, but very minor.
The alliance races are just not developed… they aren’t that interesting, and you don’t see what they have to offer.
From a person who knows a lot of thier lore and what is in it, the game and the playable faction show so little that shines or would attract… both in story and presentation. The best stuff is almost always neutral and almost never from the alliance group…
Soluiton is simple, if you make the alliance attractive enough, the horde players will go there… atm, i don’t see why any blood elf or nightborne player would want to play a void elf or night elf over what they have or be interested in those races either… all you see is ruin, crappiness, and just a less attractive version of what they have. Which is ironically since the blood elves is the high elf stuff, and the Nightborne are the night elves stuff.
