Greeting Forums !
There’s a good habit that started in Shadowland in PuG : In-Game Voice !
Before you got discord but it was too manual for PuG, and sometime you had to create a manual one.
Today it’s really great, player have now accepted to be in voice with anyone, making atmosphere less toxic .
All the group i joined with voice in game was friendly, and the chance that people leave in middle of RBG , Arena or M+ as diminished quite a lot
That really a great improvement in the community to use this tool !
And i liked an argument i saw in PuG :
We are on in game voice, we check everyone microphone. We are in 2021 everyone got that and got no excuse to do not get one today.
And it’s kinda true, thank to the pandemic too.
I really like that improvement of habit in PuG to use voice, it’s really friendly !

I use Discord. I don’t actually get on with the in game voice chat very well. It never wants to behave for me.
It does not like my push to talk key so that means the entire group has to listen to my keyboard on voice activated.
Don’t get me wrong, it was long over due to give the game a voice chat option

I’m using it for some RBG’s currently. It’s ok. It serves its purpose and like you said, discord is a bit too much effort for pugs.

We all know someone in PuG who spend 45 mn just to activate his microphone or how to join a discord

And then when they get in channel it sounds like they are flying a chopper at the bottom of a toilet full of crying babies.

I remember having to join all sorts of ventrilo and teamspeak, back in the day. I’ve also joined all sorts of throw away discord servers. I find most players are on it tbh.
Having said that, there is nothing wrong with using the in game comms if people prefer but if someone is going to struggle with mic problems it’s as bad in game as on any other platform

The most consistent problem with the ingame voip ive come across has been that you can’t have 2 people from the same bnet account in the same call.
Besides that, I think it’s decent. Beats needing TS or whatever, I have PTSD from trying to sort voip for RBGs back in Cata.
You are speaking of Battle.net voice tchat or In game voice tchat ?
In In-game voice tchat, when you make a group, you just have to join party / raid / instance, you click 1 time on the headphone and it has always worked well for me.
For Battle.net voice tchat i don’t know, if they are friend i prefer to use discord. better for link and picture etc.
Ingame voice chat has that quirk at least, the one where you ‘party/raid voip’. If 2 characters in the group are from the same bnet account, it shuts the other one out of being able to join.
I once knew a family of three that all had their wow on one bnet and one authenticator. I can’t imagine doing that myself.
It sounds like the system presumes you are one.
I wouldn’t imagine this is a common issue though, but interesting none the less.
One of my arena mates had a joint-bnet with his brother, so I became quite familiar with the issue whenever we tried to 3s. Have come across it a couple times outside of that in LFG RBGs.
Absolutely. Hasn’t been a huge issue, but you know, it’s a thing that exists in the system, for what it’s worth.

I think it’s well worth pointing out the flaw. I wouldn’t have know about it otherwise.
Voice comms are invaluable in group content. More so in some than others. Anything that requires coordination.

lol yeah right, the games community is more toxic and elitist than ever… a lot of the times I see people actually talking it’s usually to say something negative
Is it reportable to fart in the mic while in a PUG?
Asking for a friend

I used this feature quite a bit to do LFR N’zoth
Though sometimes it took an herculean effert to get people to join it
I mainly use discord because the in-game voice chat cuts and affects the in-game sound effects ,
Discord works perfectly so i doubt it’s my hardware or software for that matter , wish i can jump on the happy train , but in-game voice chat is in poor state it can be improved .
it never occurred to me to join the in game voice chat for bgs. im intrigued yet scared lol.

The other downside of in-game voice chat over something out of game like Discord has been disconnects from the game but their net is still up, etc. Plus yeah, sometimes it doesn’t want to play nice and you have to reload or find out something that’s messing with it to turn off; but it works for some. Saw it used in Uldir when they re-worked it but not much since.
RBGs use it regularly, it’s great. PvP community actually the good guys in WoW.
Meanwhile M+ unfun, unrewarding, prejudice RIO snobs. No-voice.
Correlation I think.
