Interview with Ion Hazzikostas

This is the part I care about the most.
I never want to see something like corruption again.

I like corruption maybe it’s just an issue to raiders and stuff.

Corruption system is garbage. Ion and rest of “the team” is plain ignorant. It’s just like Azerite trait system with some fancy new effects. Just trash.

I agree, it was a nice watch. He touches upon many things, I especially liked when they talked about the cinematic.

I like Corruption and the risk vs. reward it gives.
Could do with some more variety however.

I would love to have a blend of different systems to make something like this more rewarding:

First off, there are roughly 3 or 4 things, 1 is the style and the other 2 are the blends;

The 2 blends I would like to see is to have reforging make a come back with valor points as the currency, with the style of having a game play equip , like we see with corruption and / or legion legendaries.

Possibly include set bonus equipment from any tier for wearing a set from a raid but on any chosen gear, but much like the corruption system, have a trade off, like, you can upgrade or infuse your gear with power BUT it will mean that with great power, you will pay a price, of course it will be themed.

So you can pick and choose, but with a currency of valor instead of gold or coalescence or momento’s (which is absurd to farm them), having a more global currency enables us to go into all different types of content and be able to pick and choose what we want to have, with the risk being greater the more power we want.

I think that provides more player agency and more organic interactions vs the ever present rng, this also is a lot friendlier to alts than having a lucky drop on a toon you may or may not want the item on, specially in BFA where essences aren’t account bound, thus the frustration of getting a really good effect being negligible, especially if you aren’t thinking of maining an alt.

Thank goodness, very happy to hear this
I want to be able to gear my alts without trashing gear. Corruption might be interesting for mains (I don’t like it personally), but it shouldn’t be mandatory. Like legendaries in Legion and the Vindicaar forge I forget the name of, you never had to do any of that on alts unless you choose to and that was good.

Nope. I don’t raid.
It’s a bad, bad, bad system.

You lost me there. It sounded good up to this part.
No trade offs. No ‘punishment’ for rewards. It’s such a ridiculous notion that I don’t understand how anyone can want that!

‘Hey thanks for doing that job for me. Here’s some money!’
‘Yay.’
‘That money is going to make you throw up violently every 5 mins.’
‘Wait… wha… BLRRGGGHHHH’

… Ridiculous.

They always do. No matter how awful the system as, as long as the system is in place, they’ll say it’s perfect, well designed or similar. Only when there’s literal announcements of them replacing systems is when they’ll admit that a system wasn’t well designed, see titanforging.

It’s neither a good nor a bad thing either, it’s just them being afraid to admit they’ve made mistakes.

Wonder if they have the physics for flails in the game right now tbh. Not that it can’t be implemented but if it worked it would help

Does any weapon has some physics like some of the gear 3D elements ?

I like risk reward.

I despise generic RNG damage procs that players have no influence over.

I despise the horrendous layered RNG and the complete disconnect between power and item level.

I despise the design of universal downsides for an item system, especially if it is hypothetically going to be used as a justification for how simple rotations are in Modern WoW.

To me it just feels like affixes. “You wanted classes to feel more complex and rewarding. Here you can have free damage if you deal with X extra mechanic”

With any regular person it would be seen as a bad thing that they won’t admit their faults or mistakes. So why should this be any different?

Because they’re employees with their job on the line. I reckon if they admitted to Overlord Ion that they’ve made a bad design decision, he’d gouge out their eyes.

I jest, of course.

Anyway, it’s obviously a negative thing personality trait wise, but it’s just part of what Blizzard is nowadays, it’s just part of their existance, without it, it wouldn’t be Blizzard, so I guess I just find it normal for them, because bad “personality traits” are what’s expected, while anything positive regarding communication or similar is seen as highly unusual?

I don’t know how much freedom someone like ion has over matters that could reflect poorly on the Blizzard stock. His words are Blizzard official stance on anything related to WoW and while it would be better imo of they were honest (can’t really believe him when he say that they are satisfied with Nzoth… While there are maybe some aspects they are satisfied of, the overall feeling can’t be ‘satisfaction’), I wonder if he’s even allowed to say it.

I’m not suggesting he should outright say ‘we screwed up. It’s crap’, but to just stubbornly keep saying ‘we’re happy with it’ just comes across as insincere nonsense. A more nuanced answer that’s closer to the truth would, I think, be much more appreciated by the public and actually raise Blizzard’s stock (to the public eye anyway).
Being honest usually is appreciated (of course there are exceptions and extreme examples of the opposite, but I don’t think those apply here).

Warrior protection mage tower appearance
Paladin protection mage tower apperance

Many bfa weapons along with some from WoD. Even some clothes have em

Corruption makes gear more interesting.

Oh dear I remember wanting to grind those appearances, but Prot Pala/War was one of most difficult challenges of the whole Mage Tower. Only the very few have it these days :frowning: So far I only saw 3 or 4 people having it…

In what way ?

While the balancing of corruption is abit (very much at times xD) off, they seem to be getting this right with every further iteration.

The aquisition and what the system currently does is a pain (imho).
The stuff drops way to randomly and when something really good drops you don’t want to equip it because it will skyrocket your corruption.
For example I got 2 really good rings (with good corruption) from my weekly chests so I am one of the few lucky ones… however I cannot use either bcause I don’t wish (my decission ofc) to deal with the effects BUT I don’t want to cleanse the corruption because next hotfix those traits might be what makes my dps…

Imho they should simply make everything that drops corrupted or make it a very high chance, also maybe get rid of the ranks, to me that would make it all brilliant.
