Is a server transfer worth it?

Has anyone server transferred and regretted it?

I am currently playing on a low pop server, Ten Storms. Low pop is boring for leveling alts because every zone is empty; it’s difficult to get groups or pugs and premades; the auction house is frustrating to use because it doesn’t have what you want. On the plus side, the community is great.

Until recently, I’ve been happy in my guild so no reason to change. But guild has been messing me around and last week I decided I was gonna leave and therefore leave server… the past week has been alot better so now I’m not sure…

Anyone who has moved from low pop to high pop, who would care to spend 2 minutes giving me their thoughts?

Thanks

I am considering moving to Earthshaker (Alliance), fyi.

With phasing there is no point in staying on a low pop server anymore. You are better on a bigger server with real players, better AH, and generally an overall better experience.

From what I have heard low pop servers have become infested with bots and third world BL mafia farmers, and will only get worse as Blizzard seems to do nothing about it. At least when you lose a Thorium node, or BL on a large pop server, 9 times out of 10 it will be to a real player.

TLDR: Move to a bigger server.

They are not infested with bots, at least my server is not. There is not much of a gold-buying market on small populations, so dunno why you think botters would be prevalent. I’ve never seen a bot in Azeroth and when you /who strat (pre- BL changes) there was only ever max 5 bots in there.

You will find that even if you COULD transfer to a locked realm, you would find the same.
Mages + stupid boost exp + retail mentality has resulted in a rubbish experience, because there arent enough players to fill the layers.
Ideally you want a realm thats medium to high - i paid to get off mograine and honestly, its made the game twice as good. Literally, no BS, twice as good.

My realm is listed as “Medium” but according to ironforge Pro, theres only 600 active players.

They can farm things like Black Lotus more easily there and once they have a huge amount of those they can transfer 1 character to a ‘better’ realm and sell the Lotus there for much more gold.
That gold they then also sell.
Simple.

I may be mistaken but Ironforge is counting players from raidlogs mostly. It’s not very accurate but indeed still leads to an idea.

As for Blizzard low medium high I have no clue. As you know ZT realm that’s listed as Medium is locked from transfers. And as I know it’s quite a big server.

Transferring to a high population realm is definitely worth it. Obviously there will be more people in leveling zones and looking for a dungeon. But most importantly you’ll have way more options when choosing a Guild.
Worst case scenario you can transfer back.

Thanks… I think my mind is made up and I’ll transfer. I tried leveling an alt (this priest) some time ago and I was fed up by level 20 of playing on my own in an empty world, so I transferred the alt to Earthshaker, and it was great having so many people in the world.

You are right, worst case scenario I absolutely hate it and in few months I can transfer back to my original place.

I just remember transferring to a high pop server back in the day, in MOP i think, and it was so daunting that I ended up quitting. Dont think that will happen now tho.

If you want alt leveling to be all about getting boosted and competing with bots for quest mobs, feel free to come to Earthshaker.

Don’t expect a warm welcome from the community though. Many of us will just see you as another player who cause more lag and longer queues in p5.

I’m playing on Ashbringer (full) and the world does feel empty. Lots of the people levelling alts would rather be boosted. No world pvp apart from ganking some farmers in EPL and BS and the usual world-buff-dispelling fiesta around raid times.

BLIZZARD UNLOCK THE REALMS!

Wasn’t there a cooldown on transfers?
