Is deathrolling allowed?

I’m looking for an official confirmation from Blizzard if we are allowed to do this or not. It’s gotten very popular on my server lately and I personally find the concept appealing and fun as it’s not real money but I’d want to hear an official comment on this before I would do it myself as I’m not ready to get banned over a little fun.

Why would it not be allowed? Its based on consensual agreement same as selling items / services / professions.

Granted I havent read up on ToS for years, but it do have an element of gambling in it - so the moment gold or items are involved then it is in a grey sone atleast if Blizz still frown upon lottery and gambling.

I believe the rule was that you don’t advertise the gambling on public channels (Example: Trade/general/say etc)

The rule was that you can’t advertise gambling, but you CAN gamble.

Just got scammed today, waiting for Blizzard response as I’ve had an agreement with a dude and everything was played fair and square.
Lost 50g I traded, he agrees to roll 100g, losses, proceeds to leave party, send gold to his main, ignore me and logout.
Send screenshots in a ticket, I just want my scammed 50g back.

You can do it but you can’t advertise it or use IRL stakes as far as I know.
Even then it’s stupid to do it with anyone you don’t know as this gentleman found out the hard way:

That’s why you don’t gamble with strangers, good luck negotiating with the automated systems and script readers for your gold.

You will definitely not get your gold back, best case is that Blizzard will delete the gold from the scammer’s account and ban the scammer, but you will 100% not get it back.

Even this is a win win for me!
I’d also expect some form of warning so the guy learns his lesson, hopefully.

Death roll itself is not forbidden, however i would approach that topic carefully - I lost 1.1 k to that sht already =(

In Vanilla, Gambling Game aka deathroll/casino/whatever, was not allowed and against ToS. If you get scam, it’s your fault, don’t do that.

Afaik if you both agree to terms and he just runs off with the cash, you should be able to raise a ticket about it and get it stripped from him atleast.
Harsh lesson sadly…

It is allowed, even though it’s retarded. Gambling making its way into wow? Never thought I’d see the day.

This isn’t vanilla.

If you’ve been the victim of a scam, we will investigate if either of the following criteria are met:

  • The Master Looter set specific loot rules using in-game chat and did not abide by them.
Note : MS>OS is not a supported loot rule.
  • A trade of in-game goods and/or services was agreed upon using in game chat, and the other player refused to honor the deal.

Deathrolling is neither a good or service, so there’s not much they can do there ;p

I had my first runner last night myself actually :joy:

It was only for 50g but still… “GG man” logs out :man_facepalming:

I sent him an in game mail laughing at his lack of honour and said he could send 25g to regain it :yum:

It’s all good fun but I’d DEFINITELY roll In a group as this protects you a little. They are less likely to discredit themselves to a group of folk who will remember their name.

Glhf!

I’d also like to see this.

I can’t see how it would be against tos as we “gamble” on a daily basis. Rolling for chests, rolling for loot etc.

The fact is that gold in game has no irl cash value (legally) so even if you roll your way to 0g it doesn’t exactly mean you will starve.

The act of losing all of your gold the first time should be enough to warn off anyone from doing it again but there is a risk of addiction I suppose. Although… We are playing WoW after all so those with the personality to fall to addiction are already there so to speak :yum:

I like to join groups playing with match sticks so to speak. Roll for items rather than gold so you’re basically making a fun bartering system :slightly_smiling_face:

I am in no way condoning death rolling should it in fact be against tos but here in the UK where gambling is legal to a degree, it can be a fun way to blow off some excess inventory :hugs:

Please update us with what they reply to you.

I’m perfectly fine with not advertising it myself. If I did it I would be doing it with people I know and trust anyway so getting scammed is not something I worry about really. I just want to know that the act itself is allowed inside the game. Hopefully their reply can answer that.

Anyone else fed up with this stupid term? Just call it “roll for gold”, why call it “death roll”? Did some plebeian e-celeb popularize that term or what? Suddenly every fool on my server started using it.
