Is exploring allowed?

I wanted to ask is it allowed to explore around the world. I want to go in Hyjal, Karazhan Crypt, behind the Stormwind Portal etc. WITHOUT BUGS OR GLITCHES! Just running, jumping and potions.I wanted to ask can I get banned for this?

I think they “fixed” that stuff, not completely sure.

If you can get around their fixes, I don’t see why not.

Exploring was never forbidden unless you use it in BG or with third party software.

Once I have been on GM Island with potions and never get banned.

Just for the heck of it, I tried to get under Stormwind, using the way I remembered from many years back - but it wasn’t possible.

I am afraid they fixed it - or ‘fixed’ it or however you will put it

i tried it as well and it worked

Oh, really? How?

same way as always - jump on to the lamp by west trade district entrance and jump into the top of the arch

I used to be explorer, wall-jumper (people, who used invisible collision points in terrain to access places) and everything in-between. And not once I have been warned, noted or been in problem due it. I did not do anything that harms the game - I simply explored - to see what is top of IF, or what is this karazhan thing, or whatever fancy place you can imagine where devs keep you off. Visiting old IF before it was opened to public ? Yup did that too.

Exploration is part of classic spirit in my opinion. Man… GO EXPLORE!

Hm, I just tried to get under stormwind and couldn’t.

I recall some exploration things were fixed some point in-game, but even with fixes majority of hidden gems were accessible. I did myself use a ‘duel’ bug (or not a bug really, but… ) a lot on places where I found that I want to be lazy.

You were lucky. Lots of people who went there got banned - permanently. As did those who got to developers island, and programmers island.

Others who used the slowfall trick to reach the dwarven airstrip, or got into kharazan crypts, got fairly lengthy bans.

So yes, the question is a valid one.

We had explorers club back on days and none of us got banned for any of it. I do ponder if it had something to do with more than just exploring why people got bans.

That said, the Karazhan Crypts is the one that intrigues me the most. What were they thinking when they created that, theres some seriously messed up stuff in there.

They fixed several ways to get under Stormwind over the years in vanilla. I remember two ways to get under Stormwind, i know there was a third way also but they probably fixed all of that for Classic but what i’m saying is there might be more ways to do it.

I know a couple of ways to get under Orgrimmar too, one of which requires a Priest’s levitation skill, the other requires a lvl 60 mount.

Interesting thought with slow fall jumping on Ironforge Airfield. You could just jump up the side of Ironforge from the North Gate outpost. That’s what I always did.

That’s one thing they’ve changed, can no longer jump up slopes. So can’t get to Ironforge that way any more at least. Hadn’t thought about slow fall, where would you jump from? Where can you get to near Ironforge that’s higher up?

Pretty sure you didn’t go to GM island Last time I checked you had to actually edit your game files to allow you to even reach GM island, kinda the whole reason they banned anyone going there as it was literally unmapped between the island and the game world without changing the game files.

Nah there was water with fatigue.

Only devs island and progs island were in another instance, so the only way to reach them was indeed to change the game files, but this thing is easily trackable server-side and bannable.

But it was a time you could replace any character model by another (without modifying any file), so you could see goblins in vanilla instead of Tauren or even human. (it was only visible on the game client-side, it was funny because every set were already available for gobelin)

I mean I know the technique via the water, jump off the waterfall in nelf zone, swim for your life until you reach a strip of textured land linking the islands waters and the server. But from my research, that bit of land is not meant to be there without editing game files and is the illegal ‘bridge’ that allowed retail players to make it to the island in the first place.

GM Island was reachable like for one full year.

The only parts that I never reached is the Old Burning Crusade and the Emerald Dream spots.

The more you know, I suppose it would make sense during the initial release and then they separated it from the world at a later date. For me it was all about that wall jumping to Mt Hyjal and seeing the kara crypts etc
