Is FF 14 PvE really better than WoW PvE?

Im reading more and more threads on here where people recommend the PvE of FF 14 over the current PvE in Wow and i tried FF 14 for some hours too but im somehow as a beginners experience would rather say the opposite.

Seemed to me that in FF 14 you have much fewer skills and CDs and a lack of a talent tree so in Wow it seemed to me that you just have so much more options to play your class than in FF 14 and just looking over my skill tree in FF 14 seemed to me that just i spam the same 4 buttons the rest of tha game and i could see that getting dull and even boring pretty fast i think.

Did i somehow missed the point of FF 14 being ‘better’ than Wow here or havent i figured out the FF 14 skill system not at all yet?

Would love to get some opinions of some other folks here.

I tried ff 14, im a casual wower so just went in with the same attitude… I was overwhelmed, I just stumbled through stuff, never felt like I was doing anything meaningful. Gave up in the end, I think to be fair thats on me more than ff 14.

Different systems and until max level you really can not compare the 2 at all Mythic Sire compared to there toughest setting they are on par with each other .

If it’s the same then why all best wow players still playing Mythic bosses in wow instead of FF14?

Well, let’s be fair, WoW doesn’t have talent trees either. It has something so completely pathetic that I am in favor of removing talents from WoW completely, too. Or giving us legitimate talent trees. What we have right now is awful.

As for FFXIV - it has a lot more going on in terms of world systems - the combat log is pretty good, it gives you a decent incentive to go out and just explore the world and kill specific things for completionist sake. It is also a good guiding path for leveling your other classes. There’s also the guildleves, which are basically like WoW’s world quests but better - you go, pick them from an NPC, then activate them and go do them.

There are also fates, which are world events that stay active until the players clear them. It’s just one more thing to do out of many things.

But FFXIV has a ton of systems. Even while leveling you see A TON. So the players who are complaining about “Systemlands” will be overwhelmend. Shadowlands has like 4 systems. FFXIV has many more, just while you’re leveling.

Because noone wants to abandon the game they have been playing for over a decade just to start from scratch in a new game.

You are not “best” any more if you start from level 1

They’re different. Early in the game your classes are extremely simple, and combat is very slow thanks to the 2.5cd.

But at around level 60 classes are fleshed out much more, you still have your 2.5cd, but you have so much more to keep track of. Way more than in WoW.

I play FFXIV much more than i play WoW. But still enjoy the combat and level design WoW.

Compared to WoW, FFXIV, focuses on rotation optimization rather than building around borrowed powers as you do in WoW.

I will argue that FF14 engame is trash compared to WOW
but FF14 is not famous for the BOSSES but for the story so i think that’s why people love to play cause there is a lot of story going on
wow story is not that good and never was

It is indeed.

I can not understand what people find enjoyable with that game.

Too cluttered Ui with too many abilties, even tho it has a 2.5 GCD.

Too long to reach max level and end game stuff is even locked behind quests so you can not even do it even if you reach max level.

I didn’t like it, I tried it for a month or so but it wasn’t my cup of tea. I have friends who love it and have enjoyed their time there.

Two different games, both are fulfilling for different reasons. I enjoy both.

Wouldn’t say the games better, think it’s more the company behind it. Square do wayyyyyy more fan service and give the players what they want. You get a mega thread on there forum about a loved boss from FF7, you get it added into the game.

I don’t even know what to say about blizzard any more. They used to create absolute master pieces, and huge franchises. Now they just ignore everything, force their content on players, and rather milk the players doing as little work as possible.

I’m a huge FF fan for over 20 years, much prefer wows PvE though. But man do I have absolute 0 love for blizzard these days. And have a ton of it for square at the moment. I mean compare FF7 remake, an absolute master piece, something fans have wanted for 20 years. The game was literal perfection with not a single bug or update for 6 months. To WC3R which was an absolute disgrace, riddled with bugs and poor quality. Went down as a huge flop and loss for blizz.

If the gcd was not that slow, I’d play FF. Not because I’m half Japanese, just because I do enjoy more skill being shifted into executing classes rather than bosses. And I think most of ff mechanics should be faster.

This being said, wow would be better if it has less systems, a better way of telling stories and more complex classes, ie not just legion 4 buttons rotations and more than just building and spending resources.

As far as skills go, no you won’t be spamming the same 4 buttons, the rotations are mostly static - not a lot of procs, it uses a combo system instead, but can be as big as 15-20 skills with off gcd skills weaved in.

As far as endgame no, I wouldn’t say it’s really better, at least to a wow player it would probably seem lacking due to the smaller scale. Raids are mostly “dance” fights - a lot of simple mechanics that are repeated again and again.

I’d say that the biggest difference is that ff14 is rpg first mmo second, while it’s the opposite in WoW.

depends.

Are you a high end raider who seeks the thrill of clearing mythic 20 and getting cutting edge every season? Then no. Stick to wow.

Are you a more casual type of person with heroic raid clear being your highest pve level of achievement, while you really don’t care about the super hard mythic level challenge and just want to have fun with pve? Then yes. FF14 is much better.

Why is it better?

apart from fundamental reasons such as their devs actually doing what players want vs our devs don’t giving a damn about players, it comes down to the fact that wow has turned into a grindfest for gear in the past years. FF14 on the other hand, is like an mmo. You give it enough time and eventually you’ll start realizing what you missed and didn’t even know you missed in wow.

2.5 GCD and weebo theme - big no from me

no it not 10 tims better wow pve dungen diffrend raids all better not promting ffx 14 deam theny did there dungen raid well how it is

Combo system is awesome, in wow you have like 4-5 skills you use most of the time, there you have at least a dozen and you use all of them, also all fights are movement intense, so even izi lvl 60 dung can be quite fristrating, alsoo much more one shot mechanics even on low difficulty. People won’t kick you for fun and they don’t leave at first wipe. So in terms of good community, tactics and combat system it’s way better. Since dps meters not appreciated in ff, wow tryhards won’t go there, cos game is about fun and pleasure.

I can say I enjoy how FF14 did raid encounters over WoW, I prefer WoWs combat system over FF14 though I prefer Wrath-MoP era combat systems the most(outside of MoP talent trees and the cata hindering hybrid talent trees etc.) Combat in FF starts off even slower with long GCDs and animation locks which I don’t like very much.

I also enjoy raiding there without addons like DBM being super prevalent and required to raid.

That doesn’t sound like a good thing, tbh.

Sometimes you shouldn’t get exactly what you want. It’s this whole ‘I want it all and I want it now’ attitude of nowadays that leads to horribly entitled snowflakes.

Nothing is different than in the old days. They used to just ‘force their content’ on players too, but players loved it, because it was good and polished content. There was never a ‘magical time’ when Blizzard did exactly what players asked. No. They just made good games and people accepted that forced stuff, because it was good.

They (the devs) just need to find their groove again and it’ll all be okay. Most players will be happy (most, because let’s face it; they will NEVER please everyone).
