Compared to orc warlocks? I’m not a big fan of horde in vanilla for whatever reason, and I kinda like the idea of going ally as a warlock.
So, honestly, with 45% of undeads everywhere and purges from shamans (shocks too), how bad is it?

Yes, you will be fine.
I’ve only experienced the Horde perspective back in vanilla. If you’re really serious about PvP I would not recommend it. I for one can’t remember losing to Alliance Warlocks 1on1 more than 10% of the time, being an Undead Warlock myself.
I wanted to play Alliance this time around, but avoided Warlock because I didn’t want to deal with 50% of my targets having an extra PvP trinket against Seduce and/or Fear.
Of course, more people are rolling Orcs this time around for stun resistance, so it might be less bad, but mage was a safer option for me.
Escape artist is still a great racial, and there’s a variety of engineering/alchemy/quest rewards out there that can give you an edge if that’s what you’re worried about.
Play the character you want IMO
It’s all about the skill I kill 90% of all undead warlocks on my 60 gnome lock
It’s all about the consumables in classic, the more overpowered stuff you farm the less your racials matter
Just play warlock, i can tell you from experience you will cotpse camp undeads untill they outnumbered you.
