Is it worth even farming rare items anymore, when blizzard will most likely eventually make them obtainable easily? (Tusks of mannoroth)

So if anyone is unaware, tusks of mannoroth were an 0.3% drop rate item in MoP, that people have been farming for years to obtain on retail by doing legacy raid SSO. However in the MOP remix you just need to level to 70, kill garrosh a few times, and voila…there is your tusks of mannoroth essentially for a few days work , compared to the grind before.

They have also done this to alot of mounts you could get in MoP.

now think of all the other rare and prestigious items blizzard could do this to. if they were willing to so easily sell out tusks, they could do it to anything. think of the MoP world boss mounts, or the solar spirehawk from WOD. or anything really.

It just devalues one of the main things that kept people playing wow, the rarity and legacy of some of these items.

And no l have never farmed this item myself, however its still an issue worth talking about.

That’s your view on it and that’s fine, but it’s not true for everyone.
For many people there is no value to it; so it really doesn’t matter.

In another thread I made this reply and I think it’s appropriate here as well:

The only value to these kinds of items is what you choose to place on it. Its is not prestigious to anyone but you. And by you i mean the person who farms it.

this is the mindset which has put wow in this state of decline. you cant have everything you want in life, i suggest stop living in your bubble if you really think thats how the world works.

Neh. That’d be the meta herd behaviour.

I’m not saying that. And WoW definitely =/= life.
It’s a game. And no, I’m not saying everyone should have everything.

I’m saying that a small minority shouldn’t have something while the rest of the playerbase doesn’t. Completely different take than what you’re claiming.

I suggest being a bit nicer on these forums if you want to have actual discussions here instead of catfights.

Right so how do you feel about only the top 0.1% getting mounts in PvP then?

being selective about what items blizzard want to bring back is even worse imo. you have no idea if what you’re getting is truly exclusive as they claim.

ofcourse there are still exclusive things in the game but gosh i do feel bad for those people who spent years farming tusks lol (and no, i dont have it myself)

I would call it prestigious, personally, if the drop was removed after WoD launch. It just might be my definition of prestigious that differ from your’s.

Gladiator mounts, non-obtainable titles and transmog long removed may have some level of prestige, but this one is still available to get, if you are lucky enough.

In this case I do not see an issue, but then, for me other stuff are considered prestigious. Tusks never was as it is still obtainable.

They were “rare” for 12 years.

Oh noes, game iz ded. None of this stuff was prestigious, it was just rare. I’d rather they reward skill than patience.

Also bad. More so because PvP and high end M+ and mythic raiding aren’t at all treated the same.

I would open it all up. When it comes to WoW, I’m a communist (and no; I’m not like that in the real world). I’d like everyone to have fun stuff in WoW.

Well, I don’t. That was their choice.
Am I mad that some of the rare mounts I’ve farmed for a long time are now being sold for a few bronze? No. It’s cool others get to have and use these things.

Things in WoW should be used and shown; and the more choices we have, the more variation we’ll see; which is cool imo.

what do you consider mythic fyrakk mount rare or prestigious?

currently its prestigious as not everyone can kill mythic fyrakk yet it’ll be 1% drop rate in a month and then in a few expansions probably trivial to solo it.

I would say no?

It seems to me that Blizzard are starting to see a value in their own backlog of 20+ years of WoW content. So rather than just leaving it to collect dust, then they’re doing something with it.

It almost sounded like that was the entire purpose of that “experiments team” they’ve made.

And that’s always been the feedback, I think. That it’s ridiculous that we’re starved for content when there’s 20 years of stuff in the garage that Blizzard could easily reintroduce one way or another.

And they’re starting to do that now. And I think we’ll continue to see them do more of that, because it’s all about retention, and retention is all about engagement, and engagement is all about new content.

Whether it’s Remix or Timewalking or something else entirely, then there’s clearly value in it.
It doesn’t require many resources from Blizzard, and players flock toward it. So it’s a win/win.

And of course a lot of the lure of Remix, Timewalking, Trading Post, twitch promotions, and so on, is that you can get some of those old collectibles.
And Blizzard sees the value in using those as well. It’s an almost guaranteed way to ensure participation.

So personally I wouldn’t be throwing myself at Legion collectibles right now, if you know what I mean.
And if you’ve always wanted some of those old PvP rewards you can’t get anymore, then maybe it’s also a good time to start sharpening those blades, because that whole mountain of old unused PvP rewards is surely the next in line.

I got them back in the day and d/e’d them then had to try for them again when transmog was changed to its more modern system.

I had them before Remix started but I dont begrudge anyone being able to buy them.

I hope to see more events like this during thr next expansion end.

I don’t care if things are put on the trading post or added elsewhere. The prestige time has been and gone.

It’s a decade old stuff, literally no one’s going to be “wow’d” by it. You had a decade to parade yourself with them… get over it, let the unlucky collectors finally get them off their checklist so they can focus elsewhere.

You heard them OP, It doesn’t matter what you think, Obsessive collectors need to get those items because they deserve it.

Remix has invalidated a lot of what-used-to-be “special” mounts (and mog) and I’m not a fan of the type of design that allows for that for various reasons. But on the other hand, don’t really care what other people do or have in this game so I’m not too fussed about it. Especially considering it’s really old content by now.

I don’t really bother… and no one should …

Is a game … Currently hearing some people but i spend time and effort … I mean you afk while waiting for Sha to spawn and press 1 button ??

For me i have plenty of achievs …Immortal …Death demise. Chosen …Mistwalker (all Mop challenge titles ) Even if they put it for people to obtain them once again i wouldn’t bother …
Gear ?? I have multiple tier 3 for many characters from the old naxx… challenge mode pieces not obtainable anymore and you know ??? I don’t even use them once…

Why i don’t bother ?? Because we have 1 life and you never know when are you going to die or stop playing . So making people happy while spending their time with any activity is something that should be looking for …

I had 24 others friends with Magic Seeker title. You know how many are they still playing ??? No one … 4 of them aren’t alive anymore . 11 Years ago 2 brothers that we played together were in a car accident …

And once you stop playing …Unless you believe your going to play a game for an eternity ??

Ending you play for yourself and not the others…

If you want it, you should farm it. There’s no guarantee that it will be easily attainable in the future. Plus you might just get a drop that much sooner.

It is not worth doing anything in game if you aren’t enjoying it. It’s a game, it’s for fun.

Whilst my enjoyment of farming Blazing Drake is waning I do still like to put on a podcast and run through Dragon Soul. The RP segments give me a chance to come on the forums and moan about Blazing Drake not dropping.

If you’re only after a thing just for the sake of the epeen value then no, not really.
Everything becomes trivial eventually.

I will say that the tusks specifically had a pretty good run of 10+ years being “rare”. Though I personally only think the real value a thing has is during its related phase. Soloing content and winning rng lottery years later isn’t all that fancy imo.

Getting Tusks of Mannoroth might’ve been impressive and or prestigeous back in MoP, I don’t know, I’ve never seen anybody with them. But now? What kind of prestige is there to say “I farmed this raid* for 10 years and now I have them”?

(*where I one-shot everything bc it’s a nearly 12 years old expansion)

The same goes for the mount the sha of anger drops. Yes, that might’ve been impressive to get during MoP, but these days it’s just a matter of being the first to hit the thing to get your weekly try.
But if it’s any consolation: I won’t be flying around on my bronze bought sha mount, so those who got it the “right” way can still fly around and be Much Prestige
