IF they ever go back to the ol’ Horde vs Alliance narrative, then I hope they’ll redo both the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor. Make both continents at least twice as bigger, and upgrade the looks of the places.
Except for a few starting zones, have all other zones be contested territories again. Both Horde and Alliance are able to make forts at specific areas, and need to capture other forts to take over the entire area. Forts can be held by Guilds.
Not everything needs to be PVP, as leveling players can just do ordinary quests that are automatically generated for the needs of the regional fort.
Eventually introduce mounted combat, siege equipment, zones that can change due corruption/destruction/nature, players being able to invest into building up settlements/forts.
And also introduce an AI driven third faction that attacks one faction once it gets too powerful.
If you know how to purge the hive mind, I’m listening. The forced positivity crap that YoshiP all but enforces is a solid Con. Fortunately, they out themselves as such fairly quickly, so they’re easy to avoid.
To be fair, if I have to choose between a happy hivemind and an enviroment where I could get harassed or gkicked because I have an alt in a guild involved in server politics I have no involvement or interest in, I’ll pick the least toxic poison and play along with the happy cult. It’s that bad.
I don’t even play FF and… what are you talking about, Jesse?
I mean, heaven forbid people are more positive about a game that, while not perfect (and yes, you do see people being negative, particularly along the lines “Oh god, THIS dungeon again, just end me now” etc), mostly delivers in terms of narrative, lore not being a massive turd, engagement, player options and customisation, and, shock horror, a dev team that actually listens and communicates and respects the community.
‘Enforced positivity’ makes all yall sound bitter AF. Good grief.
‘Forced positivity’, translating to ‘a community who actively enjoy and engage with their chosen game’. WoW players can be incredibly jaded toward even the barest hints of positivity – they’re so used to being in this broken marriage with a game they don’t necessarily like anymore, where they the view the devs as terrible, that the sight of a game with broad community approval is something to be distrusted.
As for this sentiment regarding AD, I honestly think it’s overblown – not necessarily by you, Daeva, but by many others. The forums is not a very good indicator of the in-game atmosphere for the most part, nor are the [ignores x or y community] features in some TRP profiles. Most players get along with their RP rather more quietly and happily.
In my case, I was responding to Zathorius & the general sentiments I’ve encountered rather than Woebloom. Former of those did seem to be taking the topic more seriously.
I don’t really notice it. The forums don’t really represent the server as it is in game. There’s about 50, or so, regular, active posters here, and about 5 regular contrarians. Most roleplayers in game get along just fine.
/shrug. I enjoy the game, still. It’s far from perfect, but I also don’t stress about it as much as I did back when I was 16. I take it as it is, and I still find it fun to play.
The only real drama you’ll find is from Final Fantasy posters who don’t have a subscription and haven’t RP’d on this game for a long time.
Oddly enough, when these people vanished from WoW and went to Final Fantasy, the drama I encountered in-game has been next to none! And has ultimately been a lot more of an enjoyable experience for me.
Actually, looking back at what I originally said, I’m sure that these two things aren’t related. All the best to my Final Fantasy homies, I wish you a long and prosperous MMO experience.
Used to be in a guild that did not like Ara being nice to OoO.
Guild was downright ICly and OOCly abusive to me. While OoO was ICly nice.
HAHAHA! Imagine being ICly ignored by people you know for years because you offered OoO Cookies and left over party cake
Alright, I’ll bite; that’s an outright lie, and hasn’t been true for… years?
There’s been forum drama, grudges and - slinging for yonks. And has nothing to do with FF, and everything to do with Whatever this community has in its water
I can’t speak from experience, but even looking at the world/setting and all I can’t really get my head around the potential, as opposed to WoW or SWTOR for me?
Not saying it’s impossible, as people obviously do. Just not for me.
As someone who’s played both but hasn’t really done much FFXIV-related RP (I do have a character with a background and all that good stuff though), FFXIV is absolutely the better game. The story is better, the characters are better, the music is better. But because WoW is more of a straightforward fantasy setting with more generic rules, there’s more potential for doing all kinds of varied things in roleplay.
Roleplay and the connections I’ve made in said roleplay keep me on WoW, while the game itself ensures I couldn’t leave FFXIV after starting it.
I don’t really see the need for an us vs them mentality over choices in MMORPGs.
P.S. I know the music for WoW is amazing and always has been, but FFXIV is just on another level. Banging tunes right there.
I sometimes wish the forum’s language filter wouldn’t let posts with “FFXIV”, “final fantasy” or any other variations of the game’s name through just so that people stop discussing it on a WoW forum
