This has nothing to do with World of Warcraft and nothing to do with World of Warcraft adding “Body Type” to the character creation screen.

You’re clicking on a masculine Body Type instead of a Mars symbol. This is the change at character creation. Whatever your intentions or identity were previously are unchanged. If you think otherwise, explain why.

Google “barber surgeon”. In any case, no, obviously not, again you are trying to bring real life into WoW. In WoW, barbers evidently deal with more than just hair.

An option on the character creation screen has been renamed. This is not a “politic agenda being forced to players”. You are disproportionately angry about a very small change that has zero material impact on your gameplay experience.

There are multiple ways to change body type in WoW. As I have pointed out multiple times in this thread, a Tauren can turn into a Bear, or a Gnome, or a Skeleton, or a Human. Watch some streams - most high end raiders in TBC playing melee classes become male Tauren for raid at the moment.

World of Warcraft takes place in a magical fantasy universe where shapeshifting and transformation are routine, everyday things. “It’s not realistic” is an absolutely bizarre argument to try to make.

This is incorrect. You seem to be having trouble following the points here and you seem to be becoming frustrated for that reason. Copy-pasting our reply chain out into Notepad or Word to read it through in isolation may help. For example, the below is the exchange you’re talking about. You didn’t say “of course not”, you said “YES!”

Several times a week you’re going to see the text “Body Type” and a masculine silhouette where there used to be the text “Male” and a Mars symbol. Even if you somehow find this (tiny, innocuous) change offensive, it is less offensive than experiences you will have every day just leaving your house and living your life. Do you also get angry when you see a group of people referred to as “people” instead of “men and women”?

What slippery slope? You have tried to claim that you’re not allowed to say “man” or “male” and have not replied when I pointed out that you can. You have given a police force giving a description of a missing boy as having “yellow skin” as an example of this kind of thing taken too far, which description I have pointed out most people would reasonably consider to be racist - at which you then pivoted into saying that there was also outrage over the missing boy being described as male, but of course you can’t find any evidence of this claim. You seem to be inhabiting a paranoid fantasy world inside your own head on this topic.

You were denying it and saying that people did ask, but that you couldn’t prove it because you’re not allowed to name people on the forums. Which is it? You can’t rely on both “people asked” and “nobody asked” to support your arguments. Even if nobody asked, so what?

And I’m happy to disagree, given what I’ve seen of the mindsets and attitudes of those people in this and other threads. It seems to be rooted in a basic kneejerk fear reaction, with an option in the character creation screen of a video game being renamed getting lumped in with people’s personal culture war bugbears (“You can’t even say someone has yellow skin any more!”) and becoming the target of people’s existing anger about those wider issues. It is a video game.

So you’ve protested - and I’ve shown that your reasons for doing so are flimsy at best.

This is a bizarre aside that boils down to “anyone who disagrees with me is mentally impaired and incapable of independent thought” - not a healthy attitude to take into a debate. As you point out, I have tried to engage with you sincerely.

It also reveals your politics and that this is first and foremost a political issue for you and not a #NoChanges issue or anything else (you haven’t even mentioned #NoChanges in your summary).

Stop conflating this small change to a video game with your personal politics and stop trying to turn it into more than it is.

Please elaborate. Your character has the same gender as previously, and your character’s gender is up to you as previously, and it looks and sounds and plays the same as previously.

What are you unhappy about, specifically?

For some reason, it always seemed to me that in order to more accurately identify your character, on the contrary, you need to add more parameters. For example, remember that intro video of wow classic? Where a night elf fought a big orc.
The strength of a mighty orc and the fragility of an elf were directly felt, but at the same time she was so dexterous that she dodged his blows.
Of course, dexterity is inherent in all elves. But I always found it interesting to give female and male characters a little bit of difference. By adding more stamina and strength to a male, and agility and spirit to a female, for example.
the more parameters of distinguishing characters, the more interesting. After all, we are all different. Why try to blur our differences, because in this way we lose our individuality!
Just add more genders or the ability to choose a non-gender. And even better is the effect of this on the dialogues and on the emotions of the characters.

It changes. Sadly I can’t upload the image that I took it from old client but it simply says my gender when I choosing but not anymore so already can say they remove genders from the game.

No and I don’t really want to educate myself how people remove the organs they do not want to use it and not my business. I am playing game that did not have these features and these are simply trying to be nice to lgbtq commuınity so you may forget their scandals.

No I am again saying politic agenda applying the game have no gain to lgbt communities want to approach. This can make things worst. You can annoy people like the owner of the post and how is it better in terms of better understanding of transgenders? None. That’s just irrelevant that’s it.

These are transformations, druids changes forms to animals of the guardians they worship to by the power given to them or other stuff that changes you like you said pirate gnome and so on but guess what when you eat saviory delight as a female troll you turn as a female human so you are right about that. Even we change to another race via in game items gender does not changes. Thanks man for me proving me right!

But the sad thing is being a transgender or gay or other stuff does not mean everything you want it right, I support transgender community, I got even a dream to have drag queen cafe to can employ them and have stable life and introduce them to non lgbtq people but again this time gonna type in bold; showing the political agenda of LGBT community in game by changing the game that we played for so long it’s ok but changing on classic rather weak and accomplishes nothing towards to make people understand them, accept them and respect them but actually annoys because changing the thing that people used to doing ( in terms of classic crew) for 18 years.

Well if everything is the same as u say, then we can just continue to use the male/female as everyone is used to it, can’t we? :smiley: Why change it then in the first place?

The biological reality is that there are two types of bodies → male/female and each then exists in various variants based on the specific DNA and what the person does with their body on daily basis. If u do exercise ur body gets more muscular if not, u will be skinny, or fat depending on your diet etc.

I don’t see a single reason, why we should ignore basic biological fact during the character creation, especially when every single NPC in the game is either male/female. So why should WE be choosing from body1/body2 :smiley:
And if there are no males/females, then how do the NPC procreate, hmm?

It is also wrong from an educational point of view. If a child tries to create a character, they might get the wrong impression of what is a male/female body.

Genders are as much in the game as ever. Your character is still the same gender as always. It looks, sounds and plays the same. It is the text “Male” that has been replaced by “Body Type” on the character creation screen. This has nothing to do with your character’s gender.

Yeah, this kind of squeamishness again makes obvious that you just have a problem with trans people and that this is what your objections are stemming from. It’s pitiable.

Wrong. A female Troll (or any other race) can turn into a male Tauren, and a male Tauren (or any other race) can turn into a female Gnome. Again, as I pointed out and you ignored, every competitive guild’s melee players are currently doing this with the engineering transporters for every speedrun.

Yep, this is what I’ve been saying throughout. If your character is male, it’s still male. There is zero impact on you.

In real life, or in the game? If you’re talking about real life, that’s irrelevant. World of Warcraft takes place in a magical fantasy universe where real world science and physics obviously don’t apply. If you’re talking about in the game, please provide an official source for chromosomal sex-determination existing in-universe.

How do you know? NPCs don’t have genitals. Neither do your characters.

They’re video game characters.

How, exactly? They can choose between a traditionally masculine and a traditionally feminine bodytype. How are they going to “get the wrong impression”? Do you think that male people can’t be slender or female people can’t be bulky?

It makes the character creation more confusing than it needs to be. If you want a male character, you press the traditional male icon and that’s it.

Why should you be exploring what these two buttons are? :smiley:

Seriously… why change something that’s working and is accepted by the vast majority of players/people in general? It’s like replacing the word Cat with something new let’s say “animal 1” just because few people dislike the word Cat. Riddicilous.

I am not gonna read even the rest. Just face it when I choose it says body type not the sex like it used to so it’s removed. I don’t care body type A B C all of the alphabet it’s removed plain and simple and it’s the truth. If you can’t agree on this well your ideals blinds your eyes I am sure people emphaty of your ideals whenever you have a debate with them . Cheers man or woman or leek or onion w/e you wanted to call by that I don’t give any care about it.

What’s confusing? If you are on the character creation screen and you want to make a male character, are you confused about which body type to pick? If so, why? This really feels like you are deliberately ‘playing dumb’ for the sake of argument.

LoL. Every civilisation has to procreate somehow, and even in this universe there are families and traditional biological procreation, the same as in our real-life.
Seriously, read some Warcraft lore, the books especially or at least play the RTS games, thanks.

I’m sorry, but again… read some lore first for example the War of the Ancients Trilogy.
Or if u are lazy to read, just log in to your character, strip it down of all equipment and observe lol :smiley:

I’m saying, that creating a male character is now a 1 second process, because everyone knows how a male icon looks like and the label on it confirms it.

With different icons and labels, it takes more time than 1 second to choose a male character. → why making the screen more confusing than it needs to be.

There are such people and maybe they would like to see the word replaced with something else. Are we gonna then replace it in WoW too, so that they feel happier?

This is a huge assumption. :male_sign: is the planetary symbol for Mars and was originally used by an 18th century botanist called Carl Linnaeus for flowers. It may interest you to learn that he also used Mercury’s symbol ☿ for hermaphroditic flowers, which are also known as “perfect” flowers in botany. These symbols are far from universal and people from many different cultures and countries play World of Warcraft. If anything, the traditionally masculine and traditionally feminine silhouettes are less confusing. This is why they are often used on e.g. public toilets, instead of the Mars and Venus symbols: :mens:︎ :womens:︎

Also, please don’t just abandon your other points. Have the courage of your convictions!

Let me give you a different and better example… vegans/vegetarians.
As u know they don’t like meat and killing animals. So why do we continue to have quests for killing animals and selling meat as food?

Replacing all meat vendors in the game with fruit vendors would make them feel better about the game and for your character, it doesn’t really matter what u replenish your health with, right?

So again it’s the same thing as removing the genders, but Blizz didn’t remove the meat yet, because they know it would be ridiculous. So why remove the male/female options?

If you can’t provide any examples of something, don’t rely on it to support your argument.

Following your logic, do you like killing people in real life? If not, why are you okay with it being in the game?

Not sure if this is trolling or a reading comprehension issue. I’m pointing out that you are illustrating that the change isn’t wrong.

With the change, we can continue to use the terms male and female, and if you want a male character, you can press the traditional male icon and that’s it. It’s very unobtrusive and non-disruptive.
