Is this an intentional "you think you do, but you don't" situation with the Mage Tower?

Well again, some are just way easier than others. And when 1 player is able to clear something does also not mean it is “very much possible”. Sure we can look at the video of the guy who writes all the guides on icy veins and wowhead being in a worldwide top 20 guild. But it is not representable. I disagree with your “educated guess”. There are mythic raiders 100’dreds of tries in now and not making it.

It could of been so much better.

And I can’t believe people are even comparing the difficulty to Legion. They are not comparable at all. In Legion you could use two legendary pieces at one point!

when was the last time blizzard released anything “new”… shadowlands??? what about outside of wow?

probably besides hearthstone expansions… overwatch release right?

No not really, it’s just Blizzard showing once again it is utterly incapable of scaling.

So next time you read an announcement about a returning feature, avoid it.

because it will be completely unplayable.

“Scaling at level 60 will not affect older content”
Ion trying to allay fears about scaling.
Pre scaling. Full Nyalotha geared people could solo mythic BfA dungeons and heroic legion raids no problem.
After scaling. Normal bosses laughed at players and the legion raids didn’t even bother laughing out loud, they just smiled and said “aww bless”.

Stop. Scaling Blizzard. You simply can’t do it.

This 1000%

What, you expected to have it easy? If you are up for the challenge, you are up for it.

No one expected it to be easy feltwist, but neither did they expect it to be like trying to light a campfire in a howling gale in the Antarctic winter.

Wiping at least 50 times and spending thousands of gold on repairs and potions, while being forced to farm old content for legion gear because Blizzard absolutely screwed up scaling may be “fun” for some people, but never confuse “challenge” for “frustrating content that is hideously badly designed”

I’ve done it as a guardian druid and then I only did it because of the bear. At the current difficulty, it’s not worth doing it on any other of my classes I would want the sets on. Too much effort for not enough of a reward. If it gave more than just recolours of the mythic ToS set I might have been willing to do it on other classes I have as well.

Well, okay. It is not enough reward for you.

ToS gear was the intended difficulty.

Actually in PTR it was the original difficulty and then come release Blizz decided to buff the HP of the bosses 3x to artifically increase the difficulty and upped the damage, couple this with the Timewalking squish and it’s a recipe for disaster.

And yet when it was released, it was in the first half of the xpac and the devs knew it would be outgeared by the end. It was released at the earliest possible date, not at the time it when most people would be capable of doing it.

People were capable of doing it the very first day it came out.

Yeah, people are also capable of beating Super Mario Bros. in 5 minutes, or Ocarina of Time without taking damage once, and so on. That doesn’t mean it’s the “intended” experience for the general player base.

Majority wanted a easy mode of the mage tower, and instead got a version that was harder than MT was on release back in Legion.

In fact all the discussion / hype about mage tower shows just how popular challenging solo content for WoW is.

Can you stop with this line of reasoning? People wanted hard and challenging content, but nobody wanted the current version of Mage Tower because:

  • Scaling is weird
  • It is limited-time only.
  • It is massive goldsink (just using simply the consumables adds up)

What they could have done?

  • A template version so it really is about skill, but you also know that it is reasonably beatable (might take you 300 tries, might take you 500 tries but you know that the gear isn’t the problem, it’s you)
  • It is permanent and not limited time, so you can just do it at your own time in between raids, dungeons etc and spread it over a year.
  • Just make consumables, sockets, trinkets etc not work and balance accordingly. Or make them be balanced and correctly scaled.

Right now, we have a weird mishmash of things that nobody asked for. My SoD gear that I have cultivated over the months is worse than average because Dom gear items can’t be socketed. My weapons are worse than level 50 greens because they cannot be enchanted with the enhancements that video guides are suggesting. My SL flask is worse than BFA flask(less than %50 effective), my SL pot (%3 of overall dmg) is worse than BFA pot (%6-7 of overall dmg). My SL trinkets (other than 1) are worse than any alternative.

And at the end of the day, you don’t even get the satisfaction in beating the challenge, because did I beat it or did the trinket beat it for me, even though it was %75 nerfed already? Do I try again without it and waste even more gold?

No they didn´t and no they don´t.

When MT was released in Legion it was much much easier on release, and there were a lot less guides / info available to players, so the lack of knowledge was supposed to make it harder. You can still watch all the Youtube vids about the Mage Tower drama on release in legion, they´re still available on Utube. Also take into consideration that with the AP grind and different Leggos, Mage Tower was potentially a complete joke with the right setup on your main.

People want easy content. Does that mean people want to success on the first try? No, but they want easy content.

If MT was in the same vein as getting the slime worm in Plaguefall as a solo tank beating the last two bosses I would be happy with that.

MT is not a challenge it’s a hardcore money sink with optional extra steps to cheese it and instead of balancing the encounter they are just nerfing the cheesing methods after the sweaties have already done it using the cheese methods in the first week.

If in the future we need another example of Acti-Blizz not communicating with the playerbase this is a prime example.

It’s more of a “we hear your feedback of wanting the weapon appearances back, here is magetower without the appearances”

I mean I wanted hard content and I know there are a lot of people that also wanted hard content, so I don’t understand the issue here… The rewards are recolors of old content, so I don’t even see the issue with “hard” content.

Not really enough of a reward for the effort required.
