I know its always easy upvotes to s***t on J. Allen Brack for his comment on wanting Classic servers, but it really starts to feel like he was right.
Maybe if he had worded it like
“You think you want Classic, but you dont, because the true Classic experience will never return and Classic servers would be plagued by exploiters, hardcore min-maxers and a toxic community.”
people would have not ridiculed him for it. Because thats exactly whats happening right now.
And before you post “BUT ON MY RP PVP REALM EVERYTHING IS FINE AND NICE!”, yeah great, but you arent representing the majority of the playerbase.
He was ridiculed for the sheer arrogance that comes with a statement like that. But humans will always find the path of least resistance and take the easy way out - even if it involves cheating or exploiting and that will never change.
You could never, never ever, return to the roots. Even without layering there would have been people crashing the economy, using exploits and scummy tactics.

He talked about having to find groups in /2 or /LookingForGroup. The literally FIRST EXAMPLE he gave for why he thought “ytydbyd”, was a QoL feature. He wasn’t even considering any community aspects, in fact his first example is a QoL feature that removed community interactions.
Sorry, I know you mean well, but you are giving this guy a credit he doesn’t deserve, not by a long shot.
The major part of why classic can’t be what vanilla was is that even if we ignore the mechanical differences/bugs in the game client itself, everything else has changed so much. And most of all, we have changed. People playing MMO’s today are completely different in how they interact with a game than we were back in 2004. The mysteries are (mostly) all exposed and readily available online. And even if you try to be strict with yourself – as I did – just the knowledge that the answer to any question is a simple search away changes everything.

That isn’t what he said or what he meant. Besides yourself and any other retail player, is there anyone here who didn’t think he was referring to how comfortable and dependent we now are with LFG/LFR/Shorter HS etc etc etc.
This whole layering situation is ridiculous for sure, but espeially because if it wasnt for the forums and streams, 99% of the player base would be completely and entirely oblivious to it’s happening and would still be enjoying the game (they probably are anyway actually)
I am still having more fun than I have in years and even the knowledge that there are some cheating buggers out there, doesn’t really detract from it for me.

People are complaining about missing QoL features that weren’t in classic, they’re complaining about missing balance, which they knew (or should’ve known) about and so on.
Yes, the bugs, exploits and similar indeed diminish ones personal enjoyment, but I don’t think people are referring to those players complaining about bugs and exploits, but rather to those that are complaining about classic being classic.
Yes, I feel quite dependent on an LFG Tool right now, because I refuse to rush dungeons, which leads to people either leaving, not even joining or kicking me from groups. I cant even enjoy the game when I want to do a dungeon because I know I will have to spend at least 2 hours searching for suitable players. Thats not fun.
Even as a healer. Try joining a group as a healer then not healing anyone that is rushing and taking aggro from the tank. You will get kicked in an instant.
Seriously, I can’t even find a single group for any dungeon since lvl 28. Every group now is just spellcleave spams with tactics they can’t pull off. You end up wiping each pack because the puller can’t understand that if we couldn’t do that 25-mob pull 3 minutes ago we can’t do it now. Eventually you get less xp than as if you were solo grinding in the open world.
You are playing on bad realm full of elitists wannabe hardcore kids. PvP realms always attract bad players.
I have no such issues on HW and there are no cleave groups. Its as close to vanilla experience as it can get. Realm is full of older players who just want to have fun, not rushing, not cheesing, not exploiting. And guess what - we are having lots of fun.
